So I've finally, after a long time, got a rage quit. On easy shit.
Batman Arkham Asylum on hard difficulty could be very challenging sometimes.
What about you, guys? It's normal to rage on easy games, right? RIGHT?
*edit: HOW DA FUCK I FORGOT THIS THING MADE BY THE DEVIL ITSELF?

I've just finished the game, and I'm really close to get all the Riddler's stuff. And you know what? I don't even feel relief, of proud, or anything. The most challenging point on AA were the "bad" controls.

For the most part it is, but there's this arcade game within the game, and one of the achievements is to beat that game without dying. I don't think I"ll be earning that one.

Doesn't happen to me often, I rarely play anything aside from adventure games, and with this genre when you're really stuck, you can almost always just use a walkthrough instead of ragequitting. Anyway, the last one was Epistory: The Typing Chronicles, I quit after being killed in the very first nest for more than 10 times and would have refunded the game if it hadn't been from a bundle.

I know, I enjoyed the game quite myself. Also short "loading after death" makes it more enjoyable for repeating. I HATE games that have for no reason thousand years long death animation.

The devs tend to hide behind that "difficult" tag, but most of them just use it as an excuse for making a poorly balanced game with poorly handled checkpoints, if you ask me...

Rocket League makes me more angry than any other game I have ever played. I nearly smashed my keyboard once and I have never had the urge to break controllers or anything in the past. I think it has to do with a combination of how quickly you derank and the passive aggressive chat binds everyone uses. I can play CSGO all day and get called everything under the sun but seeing "What a save!" and "Wow!" spammed 10 times just pisses me the hell off for some reason.

I just decided I'm done with Dragon's Dogma. I was planning to do a new game+ since I really loved the entire game, but then the last boss was tedious as hell and I died few times from falling down holes and stuff. When I died to the dragon itself I tried to retry on Easy mode but it was still just tedious so I instead uninstalled the game and declared it done. I was starting to get angry and I don't want to get angry so I stop playing games that threaten to anger me :-)
I think getting angry is not worth it, and I still enjoyed the game for almost 40 hours so it's better to shelve it with good memories than a point of frustration and anger.

Oh, and LILY LOOKING THROUGH. A casual point&click game. There was some puzzle involving sounds or colors or something, and I just couldn't. That's probably more shameful than DD.

Sorta relevant - I couldn't beat Alpha Protocol tutorial. There's a hacking minigame where you need to spot some unchanging numbers in a large grid of changing numbers, and I guess I have some sorta numerical dysgraphia or something and it was just not possible for me. I was always really bad at math so that would explain stuff. Too bad, the game looked so bloody good otherwise.

I had the same problem with Lily Looking Through...there were several really easy puzzles in that one, then 1-2 maniacally difficult ones. I just used a walkthrough prior to rage-quitting.

Seriously?
Maybe I was overleveled, but I got to the final fight by accident while wearing the fisherman's rags and levelling up the fighter class for the first time (aprox. lvl 3) and I had no problem beating him, it took a bit of consumables though.

I just couldn't get at the heart. I guess I made my character too tall, but like 9/10 of my attempts to climb ended with me flailing around and being thrown off.

I also didn't expect the final fight yet, and also didn't realize I don't have to do it right after defeating the cultists. Oh well.

Mine was the tallest possible... Maybe you need to use a different class or build.
Do you carry around the temporary infinite stamina consumables? Those are great for the Ur dragon, so they would be good for the weaker dragons as well.

So I just stop playing that game for a while and then come back and try again.

I rarely play MP or coop because I have no patience. I quit when I get angry or bored or irritated and that happens too often. Sometimes I pause the game for half an hour or more before I continue or change games every 10 minutes until I find one I want to play. Nobody would want mp like that. lol

When I first got to the Ginso Tree escape sequence, I felt like the difficulty was suddenly increased by two levels. No matter how hard I tried, I kept failing. Again and again and again. After a while I had to take a break and catch my breath because I was actually getting frustrated. But I didn't think that the game was unfair. No, I kept blaming myself for my mistakes, I was the one who screwed up, I simply wasn't good enough. But I couldn't keep away either, I quickly found myself trying to beat that part again. And when I finally succeeded... That was an exhilarating moment. And you know what? One of the things that kept me going was the music. I noticed it almost immediately. It's a beautiful, well-composed piece of art that just drags you forward. No matter how many times you die there, the music never stops. It keeps going and urges you to try again. It keeps you going until you finally succeed.

Here's the track from the OST, and here's a 15-minute loop of the escape segment.

I rage-changed difficulty in Alice: Madness Returns from the hardest to the easiest, because the fights were so bloody boring. Barely anything hit me, I hit them a lot, they had too much HP. Even on easiest the game is way too long, and fights are boring because of the lack of comboes. Too much HP on enemies and their low damage also made the game unreasonably boring. (Really worth one playthrough though, just on easiest, for your time's sake)
Another one was maybe Evoland's achievement for not being damaged in a bossfight in the mines.- random enemy spawns, bad controls, often un-telegraphable attacks and repeatedly failing because of my mistakes / unfair parts made me quit the game 3-4 times before I actually could get it. Not the hardest, but maybe my "most hated' achievement.

Yeah, Asylum's last two gauntlets are nerve-wrecking until you can finally take down at least one of the titans.

I think I can consider D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die rage-quitting. Not because of the difficulty (there is none, it is an interactive novel, in which you cannot "lose"), but because the game design, control scheme, and the writing is so brain-damaging terrible that I simply couldn't take it any more.

I also gave up on any hopes of getting the last achievement in Limbo. For a game praised for its puzzles, it has pretty damn many cheap trial-and-error bullshit ones.

Oh, where I actually did rage quit, albeit later returned and suffered through it: the last maze segments in Doorways: The Underworld. Imagine an underground maze with corridors about as wide as a person, where you either can see the map or run, but it is entirely based on timed switches. Pressing said switch also starts up a semi-random event, where if you ever accidentally turn your camera to any direction but the correct one at an intersection, you die instantly. Oh, and while solving these puzzles, one achievement requires you to find a relic that is hidden behind a wall with zero indication that said wall can be moved by a random switch. Sounds fun?

The last 3 titans went pretty well to be honest. My real problem begun with the single titan and those elevators, with waves of thugs. The titans are predictable, but about 20 thugs on Bats can drive me crazy.

Limbo achievements are just hell. Even with guides and all.

Use the defend button ('Y' on the x-box controller) any time you see the white marks that indicate that someone's about to attack you. ALL of the Arkham games are much easier when you remember to use that button A LOT.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

about this "white marks": hard mode doesn't have them, it's all about visual contact
the main problem about that combat is that sometimes it just does not work, pressing the counter attack button alone makes no counter attack, Bats just does that fist move in front on nobody, than gets hit.
also, the attack button+direction seems to fail sometimes either

I can agree with the Doorways one. I was on a certain part for 1 hour+ just because of poor level design. That sewer part was a pain in the ass.
