I just found out about this: http://www.theverge.com/2016/8/30/12712192/playstation-now-game-streaming-pc-launch

What do you think? The price is steep for me. On the other hand, if I were able to finally play some of the PS exclusive games without buying a PS this way then I might consider signing up for a few months. I'm still waiting to play 'The Last of Us'... At any rate, it seems like an interesting development.

It's modern racism if you ask me. Some people are "better" than others and can have more benefits. Disgraceful.

Comment has been collapsed.

No, its completly different. Racism means you have a preopinion of someone because he looks different than you. Look, Sony doesnt go "you know what? FUCK THOSE PEOPLE I DONT LIKE THEM". They want your money, but there are costs that they arent willing to do so far. Be patient, maybe it will go to your country soon.

Yeah, I know. Just got a bit annoyed. I really hope it will cause in terms of gaming nothing would make me happier. I have fast internet connection, very good PC specs, two Xbox controllers and huge willingness to play a lot of those exclusives. So yeah, really want that.

I played no exclusives, but I'm only interested in Red Dead Redemption (which is not offered in this service) and The Last of Us, so I won't use it either...

I think it is probably because of the streaming. I guess you need a very low latency to make that work without it being all laggy. So they need servers at many locations. I am not sure why they picked these countries. Maybe because of the quality of the internet infrastructure? But if that was the case I don't see why they would pick Belgium instead of Germany.

Either way, I'm not having it even though I'm from The Netherlands. I am not a millionaire. 20 a month is just crazy talk. :P

Yeah, unless there are some really good games, 20 a month is just too much...

Right, who doesn't love playing 24/7 to rush through 50 games as fast as possible just to save 20$. Really tho?

why this? i prefer waiting cuz emulators are a thing now, maybe we wont see ps3 emulator but ps4 is coming due to easier coding/decoding, even if it takes like 3-10 years lol. better then waste money on shitty subscriptions

It'd probably work out the same or cheaper to just buy a used PS3 and the games, play them and then sell them on again when you're done.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's a good point actually. The problem with that though is that you are not guaranteed to sell it again. It also has a higher risk, since the seller may scam you (even though that chance is not too high).

I like that idea.

How much do you think you could do that for? Seems I'm looking at not less than $120 for the initial investment. Given the rate at which I play games and other factors relating to turn around time I'd probably have the console for five months or more. I'm having trouble estimating how likely I am to loose how much when I flip the items.

Edit: Actually, the way to do it is to borrow a PS3 off somebody I know for a couple months. Then you just have to buy the games you want. I bet somebody in my family would actually be willing to do the lending now that I think about it...

Yeah, that's probably the way to do it. There are a few PS3 exclusives I wanna play; The Last of Us, Uncharted, inFamous. PS Now just just too pricey, especially since you're only renting the games.

Well, I'm grateful to Sony: this thread prompted me to talk to my brother in law about borrowing his console for a while. Easy as that, I don't need a streaming service anymore. :)

It's a pretty good idea. I don't even mind the streaming part (as long as there is not a lot of input lag), but it's just too expensive. You may get access to a pretty big list of games, but most are on pc anyway. If Red Dead Redemption was on it though, I would have gone for it (at least for one month), but for now, the Last of Us is the only thing I want...

I dont use consoles, but there are some titles i always wanted to play and i couldnt on PC. As far as i understand, you pay a monthly fee, and while you pay you have access to all the listed games, right?. Is there a way to buy those games once and for all without any suscription?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes to the monthly fee part. That is how it works.

No, there's no way to buy the games, at least not that I've heard of. Even if there was, they won't run on PC hardware, so you'd still need their servers to execute them for you.

Comment has been collapsed.

Aw, that kinda kills my hype. Just out of curiosity, any idea on how does that server executing games work? game wont be processed on my computer? Sorry, thats totally new to me, i though they released some kind of emulation on PC.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No. I wish they had. I think a proper emulator, or ported games, is something many of us would pay for.

Instead here is my understanding of how it works: they execute the game remotely. Your systems sends input, and they return the audio and visual output to you via streaming. That's why you need a pretty good internet connection speed for this to work for you.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Hmm that sounds terrible. Even with the best conection, ping should give lots of latency if you are physically far away from the servers, unless they have diferent servers on diferent countries. I wonder how they handle that.

I really dont like The Last of Us, but ive been annoyed so much by people telling me how life sucks for pc gamers cause they cant play it, that i guess it would be my first PS3 game to play XD
The one i would like to try is MK vs DC, not the best game, but as a fan of the franchise i always wanted to play that game.

+1 for MK vs DC

TBH, it was probably one of the best recent MK games. While 9 and 10 had the blood and gore, MK vs DC was actually fun to play, however lacking the blood and gore that many people "enjoy". Pretty sure the MK franchise will die off in a decade or so. It's lost most of it's older flavor and fun. The blood and gore just doesn't do it anymore, it's cool for a bit, but gets old insanely fast.

why Sony don't simply stop the anachronistic exclusive damn politics? and so should do MS? and let the customers choose where they want play their payed games?

Looks like a decent way to sample a large number of games.

Also a good way to convert a basic HTPC or tablet into a gaming machine.

What I don't like is that it apparently requires a PS4 controller.

Does it? When I run the app it tested my hardware and I passed because I have Xbox 360 controller. I think it would work, wouldn't it?

Thanks. That just seemed to be the case from reading on Sony's site. If it works with a 360 controller then I don't have any reservations.

(Sure, it costs money and requires a fast connection, but given that, it's still good for the purposes mentioned.)

100% gonna work then I'd prob save up to use it sometimes depending on price and stuff I'd love a PC that can run stuffs.

So I've tested this and people who complain are either crazy or their internet connection/PC specs are just not very good. I have a fast internet connection plus a very good PC and the gameplay is amazing, loading times are fast and there are no lags. The only thing that annoys me is that some games are 30 FPS but it's understandable cause consoles. Some are not though, for example God of War 3 Remastered runs perfectly fine in 60 FPS.

Amazing software and service for PC gamers who want to play console games without buying a console.

I'd rather they just ported the games, so this service simply isn't for me. I don't see how they can justify 100 bucks a year for such a list.

Did you have to make this thread return from its 10-month-long slumber, though? Creating a new one talking about how the service is currently running almost one year later might have been better.

I have 120MB/s and my PC specs are:

Intel Core i7 4770K 3,50 GHz BOX
Corsair Vengeance 4x4GB (16 GB total), 1866MHz, DDR3, CL9, XMP
Gigabyte GeForce GTX770 4GB DDR5/256bit

And it works like a charm. No lags, no stuttering, nothing. Like playing on consoles.

I did, that's why I quoted it ;) The main thing with streaming services are that your computer is NOT playing the game, just receiving the visual data from the actual server/playing machine, which means almost no load on your computer. :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah but there are loading screens and they disappear quickly, that's what I wanted to communicate :P Of course it depends on the speed of your internet connection since it's streaming like you mentioned.

I just wish it would be a completely reliable service worldwide. It may be a little costy (not too much tbh) but it allows to play exclusives without having the consoles - I really rarely replay games after finishing them, for me it would be a really good system.

I do find it expensive myself, perhaps if they include a 3 day purchase for $5 for the times you just want to play a single game all the way through a weekend I would heavily consider it.
