What co-op should we play together?
Other:
Well, my immediate suggestion would be Borderlands 2 (and maybe Borderlands 1 if you care about the "story"). Bonus points: If you like it, it will be a long time before you have to choose again. XD
Since you're already played Saints Row: The Third, Saints Row IV is also a good option. It plays a fair bit differently from 3 but still really good (even more chaotic :D ).
Terraria isn't on your list so... yeah, check it out.
Left 4 Dead 2 (or 1... though 2 has the entirety of the first game included in it) maybe? Although you'd need a full team of 4 players for those since playing with 2 bots sucks.
Orcs Must Die! 2 is really really good. (So is the first game, but that one is Single Player only. 3-rd game also has co-op but I don't have it yet to say anything about it.)
Castle Crashers is... ok. It's an ok co-op game. I should probably stop now... ^_^'

We've tried Borderlands, but she didn't dig it, so I will probably play this one with a close friend of mine.

Since we did play Saints Row the Third, I think this would be fun, although I didn't like the fact that it's all sci-fi now.

I can't remember if we tried it or not. But we sure played Minecraft together.

Probably we'd play Back 4 Blood as Left 4 Dead 2 is outdated at this point.

Oh yeah, we had a consideration for this one.

I see, we've seen this one before, but didn't consider it.

Ok, just wanna point one thing out though:
Left 4 Dead 2 absolutely is not outdated. It still has an active community (it is still in the list of 100 most played games on Steam) and mechanically it stands up to most "new" zombie games.
Meanwhile Back 4 Blood is a minor disaster with a borderline-lying marketing team (it's not a sequel or spiritual successor, but since 7- out of over a hundred- of the people who worked on Left 4 Dead were involved with Back 4 Blood, they are marketing it as such) .
I don't think I can stress enough how much I recommend playing Left 4 Dead 2 instead of Back 4 Blood... :|

I don't mean by how many players are active on the game, because at the time of this message 13,316 players were playing the game, but rather, feels like an outdated visually. Don't take it as an insult, I can understand the fact that it's a well-appreciated game, but a few years back I've played it and it didn't sit well with either or me or my wife. And that was a couple of years back.
I know that graphics aren't everything, but initially, that was something I didn't feel comfortable playing as a multiplayer, and here's why. Multiplayer games are for me to play over and over again. I generally prefer a game to feel that it's more recent as I keep seeing the maps and characters in the game.
For a single-player game, I don't have a problem, because I can play it once and move on, but I'd not have the same enjoyment with WoW for instance or a game that came back a decade or a decade and a half ago and be a multiplayer, no matter how polished the gameplay is in the game.
We've never played a game of this type so, even if it was inferior to Left 4 Dead, we'd have no idea to compare it as we've never really played it.
Again, going forward, please don't take my opinion in any way as a criticism to the game. The game just didn't click with me from the start and graphically was the first problem with me at the time.

Wanted to give +1 to what Zlia said, L4D2 is surely not outdated! It keeps getting constant love and plays well even after all the years, so don't turn your back on it just because of its years.

Yes, I am aware that it got a load of background content, but it didn't click with me or my wife when we've tried it and the first issue was that we've felt it wasn't really the type of game we'd enjoy much. That's why we passed it.
I can understand why people liked it, but didn't work for us. ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ I doubt we'd retry it again, even if I mention it, my wife would say no. "Too old." ๐คฃ๐

Yes, you only need one copy. The other player can use a "Friends Pass" to play together with you.
But if you tried before and she did not like it, do not force or convince her. Both of you should have a good time playing a game, not only one of you.

Payday 2 stealth missions were the best thing I played co-op to date.
I think we tried it before, but it wasn't the official way to play it. ๐
There's also an amazing hidden gem called Contagion, which is best described as what if "Resident Evil Outbreak" games were done right, it's old, but it still gets updates and new content.
Oh I see, thanks for the recommendation for this game. I think my wife will love this as she is a Resident Evil fan.
If I'd have my old co-op buddies I'd be most eager to try GTFO, it has amazing Aliens vibes and seems to have a deep and tactical gameplay.
Yes, that's the game we considered for now to play.

'It Takes Two', without a doubt simply judging from what she'd want to do. And yes, I say that as someone who has not played it myself. :P

Really? How come? I've only seen people (specially couples) absolutely love it, so naturally I assumed that would be a great choice for you and your wife, haha. Show her the poll results, that'll have to convince her!

She said that it isn't the style of game she'd like based on the looks.
There's a particular styles she dislikes from the first image. I can understand why, it's not the most appealing one.
Although I don't understand why she doesn't like It Takes Two graphics really, as she plays Identity V who is very similar in style.

It Takes Two is a no brainer, as well as their previous game: A Way Out.
GTFO is a VERY tough game and pretty much requires 4 players. You could find more players on the official Discord if you really want to play this.
Deep Rock Galactic is a cool game, not as hard, but again you want 3-4 players. Your teammates don't need to be super competent though.

I told her many many times that this is the game, but she criticizes the cartoonish graphics and wanted something more mature. ๐ I convinced her to play it after GTFO.

We're not the type of easy going gamer couple. We don't mind a bit of a challenge if it's fun to play together.

I see that both have " remote play together " tag so you can play from 2 different PC's. RPT is a bit different from game to game if you've used it before, I think you know what I mean. some require a player to use a controller some don't, you can inv the other player from the Shift+tab interface | the other player don t need to own the game

That date is for the launch of the OW2 beta, there's still no word when the full, completed game will be available. If you're not in a hurry to test it, then you might as well still wait until the full release. :)

Oh yeah Raft is still Early Access but what's there is a blast for small groups. Makes surviving a bit easier to delegate tasks.

If you enjoyed Overcooked you should try Moving out and Out of Space... Some other games i played in Co-Op and enjoyed them Risk of Rain, Risk of Rain 2, Human: Fall Flat, Unrailed! and many beat-em-up games :D I see Terraria was already mentioned, so +1 for it :D

I've only played Gang Beasts and we laughed to tears that is close to Fall Flat. I think it's similar in style and I think we should revisit Gang Bests too. ๐คฃ No other game made me laugh until my belly hurt.

Hubby and I played 'It takes two' not too long ago. We had a blast.
That's what I'm hoping to get her to try it. ๐
We just started 'Halo: The Master Chief Collection', fun brainless shooting.
Playing it with my Steam friend, I actually like the series for how simple it is. And as you've said, pretty brainless, but somehow fun.
I also agree with tucsoufle, Raft is also very fun for two!
We discussed about it, but didn't get yet to try it. It's on our list. Thank you!

100% orange juice for monopoly like board game with very cute characters and stats+dice combat
halo: mcc has firefight, which is survival mode against aliens, and the game options customization is very in-depth, im having a lot of fun with it with a friend or 2 recently
cook serve delicious 1 and 2, cook food by typing keys for specific ingredients.. you start memorizing specific patterns for specific recipes. sounds boring and childish but it can get really frantic during rush hour. great way to test a new keyboard and i love it a lot

Currently I'm in Halo 3, with a close friend in Steam. I don't think my wife wasn't to play it, although I have no issues replaying it with her, unless we play Halo Infinite.

I know my wife would like this one, but I personally don't fancy cooking games. I mean, the closest to fun I've ever had, until it turned into frustration was Overcooked 1 & 2. ๐คฃ

"Nobody saves the world" come out recently, its an indie and a little long, but pretty well made and interesting adventure for coop.
If you liked RE5, you can try RE6 and RE Revelation 2, nice coop realisation, but people don't likes it that much.
My favorite are Terraria (especially doing achievements) and Borderlands 2, but they've already been mentioned.

I chose other.
You two should play BattleStateGames's Escape from Tarkov.
It is a hardcore and realistic online first-person action RPG/Simulator with MMO features and a story-driven walkthrough.
It is hard, it has a steep learning curve, it is incredibly frustrating when raids go wrong, but immensly exhilarating and rewarding when raids go right.
Expensive, still in beta, has issues, but if you like this type of games - there's really nothing else like it. And learning it and playing it as husband/wife duo should be awesome.
I cannot stress this enough though: Read up about it before committing, find out developers plans for it, etc. Too many people look at a few YT-videos, think it's a good looking FPS like all other FPS's out there, pay a premium for it, and then are heavily disappointed when it gets tweaked more and more towards developers idea/gets more and more difficult with each iteration of the game.
Whatever you choose, I hope you both have a lot of fun!

really, it takes two, it is perfect to sit on a couch and play it 2h/day and is easily enjoyable for a broard range of players

That's already a lot of games to play. Here's my extra:
Strategy:
Age of Empires 2 Defintiive Edition
Age of Wonders 3
Total War: Shogun 2 + FOTS / Rome 2 / Warhammer 1,2,3 (these are the best in the series)
Warhammer 40.000 Dawn of War 2 Retribution (Co-op Campaign, Co-op Survival, Multiplayer)
Shooters:
Alien Breed: Impact / Alien Swarm (Free) / Alien Swarm Reactive Drop (Free)
Arma 3
Borderlands 1 / 2 / Pre-Sequel
The Darkness 2
Resident Evil 6
Robocraft (Free)
Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris (also works split-screen)
Dungeon Defenders 2 (Free)
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege (complicated)
Warhammer 40.000 Space Marine (Co-op Survival, not co-op campaign, Multiplayer)
Tank Shooters:
War Thunder (way better than World of Tanks or World of Airplanes. It's the copy that did better than the original)
Fighters:
Overgrowth (Multiplayer/Co-op was added recently)
Survival:
Dead by Daylight
Don't Starve Together
Dungeons 3 (basically Dungeon Keeper)
The Forest
Zombie:
Killing Floor 2
Left 4 Dead 2
Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army 2 (ridiculous name, but fun gameplay, 2 is better than 1 and 3, less concent than 3 but better gameplay so make your pick)
Other:
Garry's Mod
Interesting but not sure: Infestation: The New Z. Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion
I hope you have plenty to pick from now.
Comment has been collapsed.
What an interesting list! thank you. Some of the games I've played before but I seem to have forgotten to mention them. What drew my attention was Overgrowth. I found it funny that I got this game recently through a giveaway by mistake and I didn't even bother to check it.
We should definitely play more strategy games together, I think it would be fun. Thanks for all the lists and effort.

As some personal favourites from the list:
Age of Empires 2 Defintiive Edition -> The Counter-Strike of strategy games. You can always play co-op campaigns if you want to learn the game, and then play skirmish/multiplayer ranked in the same team.
Arma 3 -> A really difficult military simulator. This isn't Counter-Strike, this is the fake footage that was supposedly "Ukraine". This game is meant to be as close to reality as possible. But it has co-op campaigns and co-op scenarios. As well as plenty of versus game modes.
Resident Evil 6 -> The graphics are outdated but the experience is cool. I'm not sure whether it's a game or movie, probably something in the middle, but it's a fun and relaxing experience. Perfect if you don't want to get too competitive.
Dungeon Defenders 2 -> A great free Tower Defense game.
Warhammer 40.000 Space Marine -> The mindless slaughter in this game can be really fun. In terms of multiplayer, there are still people playing. In terms of co-op: you only have 3 maps, 2 where you play as Space Marines and 1 where you play as Chaos (the baddies), you have 20 waves and after 5 waves you move to a new area. And afterwards a bonus wave 21. But don't let the fact that there are only 21 waves fool you, we couldn't complete it in 4 players.
Dead by Daylight -> What horror games really are supposed to be like.
Don't Starve Together -> Just try to survive, it's way harder than it seems, even in 2 players.
Dungeons 3 -> This game combines cute and fun in a special way. It reminds me a lot of Overlord 2, it has the same feel.

I'm pretty sure now we can even play Age of Empires 4, since it's a lot newer.
Arma 3 -> A really difficult military simulator. This isn't Counter-Strike, this is the fake footage that was supposedly "Ukraine". This game is meant to be as close to reality as possible. But it has co-op campaigns and co-op scenarios. As well as plenty of versus game modes.
Doesn't ARMA IV offer the same thing? Or it's a poorer quality than it's predecessor?
Resident Evil 6 -> The graphics are outdated but the experience is cool. I'm not sure whether it's a game or movie, probably something in the middle, but it's a fun and relaxing experience. Perfect if you don't want to get too competitive.
Resident Evil 6 isn't really outdated for me. I didn't know it was co-op. ๐ฎ
Dungeon Defenders 2 -> A great free Tower Defense game.
Interesting suggestion, thank you!

Oh I see, how long does it take you to finish it if it's just 3 maps?
Dead by Daylight -> What horror games really are supposed to be like.
My wife played this one a lot. I've only dipped my toes in it. Not a huge fan of horror, but I did enjoy playing the killer/hunter.
Don't Starve Together -> Just try to survive, it's way harder than it seems, even in 2 players.
We've played this one. It was fun, but we didn't managed to survive longer than a couple of weeks.
Dungeons 3 -> This game combines cute and fun in a special way. It reminds me a lot of Overlord 2, it has the same feel.
As a fan of Overlord series, I can agree. I will more likely play it, than she would. ๐

Sorry for the triple post but I really forgot the icing on the cake - Skyrim Together.
It's a mod of Skyrim that allows you to play it co-op.

If you're in the mood for an optimization game about building your own mega factory check out Satisfactory. I also like the We Were Here series which is a co-op puzzle game with escape-the-room elements.

Oh, Satisfactory is a Co-Op/Multiplayer? I'll try that and just see what she has to say. We've never played such a game in the past.
Oh, I just won We Were Here Too, and since the first one is free, it's great. I had it on my wishlist for some reason. I can't remember what enticed me.

There's also a sequel coming up for We Were Here. Not sure exactly when it will release but another thing to look forward to if you like the prequels.

There's also Escape Simulator for a more direct Escape Room experience. Haven't tried it myself but youtube videos looked fun.

I have yet to play any of the games in the poll but I intend to play Cuphead soon and It takes 2 looks amazing!
I'll also leave a few co-op suggestions that I enjoyed playing:
Trine
Stardew Valley
Terraria
The Survivalists
Borderlands
Unravel
Don't Starve Together
The Forest
Comment has been collapsed.
I've played Trine, the first 3. Stardew Valley, we've done it too. Not Terraria. Not that I can recall we did. We never did play The Survivalists. So, we might as well add it there. I have it in my library.
Borderlands is one of the only games I couldn't enjoy when we played together. I am personally giving it a retry either by myself or with another friend as she doesn't intend to give them a chance.
We forgot about Unravel and we'll probably play that one. Thanks for the reminder.
We did play Don't Starve Together. We enjoyed it a bit, but personally wasn't my cup-of-tea. She enjoyed it a lot more than I did.
We've played The Forest in early access. It was fun. Definitely should replay it again, now that it's more polished.

Hi there,
My wife wants to play a game with me that we can get to have interaction with one another. It doesn't really matter the genre of the game as we've played action, FPS, strategy, survival and adventure games together, but we're running thin on what games we should play. We have a few options as of now, some I've suggested and some are simply not something she wants to play, for no particular reason.
I will mark them as:
๐ด - Her choice and
๐ต - My choice and
๐ค - We're not yet sure about it yet
๐ข - Played, but not finished for various reasons
What we've played already is: GTA 5, Warframe, Valheim, Sea of Thieves, Monster Hunter: World, Dying Light 1 & 2, Warhammer: Vermintide 2, For Honor, Portal 2, Phasmophobia, State of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition, A Way Out, Trine 1,2 & 3, Remnant: From the Ashes, Resident Evil 5, Overcooked, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, Aion, Black Desert Online, TERA, Hunt: Showdown, Saints Row: The Third, Mortal Kombat 11, Red Dead Online. I may have forgotten some of them in the list, but if they are mentioned and I remember them, I'll let you know.
Share what you think of the game and why you suggest it? I don't mind if the game is a bit different than the mainstream and that it's not on Steam particular. You can include any kind of game you've personally played with a friend or partner.
Thank you form both of us!
