Do you have a Steam Deck?
I used to not look for Indies that looked like the one you recommended because they honestly bothered me on a wide screen. I'm perfectly fine playing my indies on the Steam Deck man, no matter how bad looking they are, as long as they are fun.

I've had mine about 2 weeks now and all recent plays are on it. It's great to get away from my desk, and be able to play on the couch, in bed or in the garden! My biggest issue is my ageing eyes, and tiny text in some games.

Playing through Children of Morta and The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth has been a lot of fun.
They work great as a pick-up-and-play games, I'm able to stop at any time and jump back in later without missing a beat.

I haven't tried co-op, but I've read solo is easier at least.
It's been great going through the game solo, and to be honest I don't have any desire to play this game co-op. There's too much narration/exposition, and it takes itself kind of seriously. Not the kind of game I see myself playing with friends.
Isaac is better suited for co-op IMO. It's funnier and there's hardly any boring cutscenes.

This I also had on my radar for Steam Deck. I think a lot of rogue-like or rogue-lite are great for handheld because there's not many graphically intensive that focuses on looks over anything else.

I think you'll love Children of Morta. The controls are great, it's satisfying killing hordes of enemies. The difficulty is just right, not too hard not too easy.
And even though it's a "rogue-like," I enjoy the permanent progression system. Makes failed runs mean something too.
As a rogue-like, Isaac is kind of the opposite of Morta. Every run is fresh, there isn't any real permanent progression besides unlocks (which there is a metric shit-ton of though). But it plays so well on the Steam Deck. It's the game I was most excited to have on it, to be able to play it anywhere on-demand, and it's everything I hoped for and more.

I ordered Monday Aug 1. Got it yesterday Aug 9. So I've only spend a short time with it after work last night. I think this will be an amazing device.

I had to start here. Basically a demo that shows off all the controls and how to use them. Gyro aiming is amazing. Stick for rough aim movements and gyro for the fine stuff works well.

Because I told the game author I would, lol. (He is a member here) Actually this plays very nice on the deck. I've finished it but restarted it last night. Played for over an hour. I may just replay this in full on the deck trying to get more coins. This one did pickup my old finished save game.

I wanted to see how this would play as Its something I had finished recently on my PC. It does not support cloud saves so I had to start a new game. I could copy over my files but I have not looked into how that works yet. It seems smooth. I'm not used to the controls and Gyro is off by default so aiming was not as nice as a mouse and keyboard. I will need to look into steam input and make adjustments for my play style for games like this one. I did customize my keyboard layout quite a bit when I played it. I am impressed at how fast it downloaded this game over Wifi. Its big but It never took that long. I never timed it but I was impressed. This game might be best left to the big screen on a PC but Its certainly playable without issues.
When I get around to Just Cause 4, I may use the PC for the screen size or look into showing it on my TV. Once the official dock comes out I'll have to look into that if I dont get a dock before then.
I then copied it over to my SD card and played a bit. Seems to play just as well from both internal storage and the card.
Hmm.. looks like none of my screenshots worked. It said it worked as I took them. Looking into it just now I see they are local to the device. They get marked as private and there seems to be a manual process to upload them. Guess I'll have to look into how to do that.
I'll be looking at the comments to see what people like on the deck for future games to play :)

Currently trying to finish Just Cause 2. I've tried it on Steam Deck, but usually games of this caliber I feel a PC does it more justice, and I don't mean the graphics, because it's kinda outdated, but the controls. I value a lot the reaction time in the game, so I found it a bit difficult, but I believe I could adjust on the Steam Deck.

Interesting. I tend to put AAA titles for PC specifically if they are visually appealing.

Just played it and finished it today. Fun little tutorial game. I wish it was more to be honest. I may be longing for a new Portal game.
Yes, I also wish it had been longer. But I knew it was just a short demo before I started.

Its a standard platformer. It is a good one, its worth playing, its cheap. It does have decent progression and the enemies get harder as you go. I like platformsers. The next one is better as it has more features. Its not out but I've played a couple test levels when he had a public test out awhile back. I will buy it once it comes out.

I loved that game. Played countless hours. That was before my steam days. Its the reason why I got steam and JC3 when I saw it on steam. ...... back before I knew about bundles and that prices would drop and so forth. I paid full price for JC3. Played about 40 hours on a PC that could not handle it but still enjoyed every second. Then picked it back up and played the next 70 hr on my new PC I got this year. If you check my achievements you will see it start in 2016 then continue in 2022.
I picked JC4 up for fraction of what I paid for JC3.

Dunno, but being able to play in bed sounds like a great plus to me, I love my bed... :D
I would probably try out games like Terraria, The Binding of Isaac, Lisa, Nuclear Throne, Ori... I am thinking good 2D games that might work well with gamepad controls, but honestly I am not even sure if they are certified. Hm, maybe Supraland too, or Trine 2 as well?
Also, I bet it would work well with Puzzles, Turn-Based games and Visual Novels, genres which are also plentiful in my backlog. ;D
Edit: question: how is the sound on the thing? Is it feeble, good enough, immersive...?

Life is Strange 2, which is a nice game and played well. It has less drama than the original LiS so that would be the reason why people are disappointed with the game, but I think it's good for what it is. Any Life is Strange should work well for the Deck.
Good suggestion. I didn't dip my toes in a well narrated game.
A Plague Tale: Innocence bleh. Why did I give it a good rating? The story is generic trash and the gameplay is actually the worst. But the game runs well on the Deck at least.
I've played and finished this game 100% on PC. I honestly liked it a lot. I'm looking forward for the next. I liked the relation you have between Amicia and Hugo.
Paradise Killer also runs well on the Deck, but the game is a bit more complicated to understand than it probably should be.

I do like the siblings in Plague Tale, but I think the story is a huge pile of wasted potential.
I think I wanted a more reality based plague story where we get to experience the plague and follow the siblings journey through it, maybe in the same spirit as Telltales TWD. But the game isn't about that. You spend the game shooting rocks at soldiers heads and then finishing with (spoilers) a boss fight where you shoot ratnados at a priest or whatever he was. It's ridiculous.
(For the record, LiS 2 is also a siblings journey where (plague tale spoilers) the younger sibling has magic powers and I feel like that was handled a lot more believeably)
I feel that the story was created for the mainstream crowd, who don't experience a lot of interesting stories in games. But if you've played/read/watched more than 10 stories in your life you'll see that it's very generic and predictable. It's a shame.
Most likely not playing the sequel, I think the first game left off at a good ending point and I don't feel the need to see more of the world.

Previous games were To the Moon, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC, Hades or Vampire Survivors.
After I'm done with MGS, I'l pick up Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin and some visual novel.

I'm planning to play Slay the Spire. I held it back for the Steam Deck. I've heard it's really good.
METAL GEAR SOLID V is for me more a PC experience. I really like to look at a wider screen visuals. It looks great and I would enjoy it more.

First two I wanna get my hands on at some point. The other two I am playing them. I see myself beating a lot slower than usual as Hades and Vampire Survivors are lengthy and difficult at times. They are great for short burst sessions.

You should try MGSV on the Deck, I don't really register any loss in atmosphere by playing it on Deck.
I can't make any specific visual novel on Deck recommendations yet. But in general the Telltale titles, those from Spike Chunsoft (Danganronpa, Zero Escape, Stein's Gate etc) and of course the Ace Attorney series.

I agree on this point. It's another way of looking at it in an position that we're used to when it comes to our gaming phones. It's just that I don't spend as much time looking at it. I could say I'm playing 30-60 minutes a day at the moment as I've not yet set more time to play full time the games there.
I can see uses of the Steam Deck Dock, but that does turn it into a switch/console type of device. If you have one already, it's probably not something you want. I love it and bought it because it helps me crush my backlogs a lot easier since I don't play many indies and some games really feel better handheld.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth and its DLC will be the main thing I play on my Steam Deck. I love it dearly. I'll also start a new game of Super Meat Boy, and probably see how well Sunless Skies and Psychonauts 1 & 2 run on Steam Deck.
But right now, I'd play Fable Anniversary on my Steam Deck, if I had one. I'm loving that game so much. I'm thankful that Nostalgia Glasses™️ proved to be somewhat right, and didn't just polish a turd. The only thing I like less than I used to, is the stealth sequences, which suck in spite of being itty bitty and so few in numbers.
Other than that? I'll probably use pagywosg to pick something out.

I've not had a lot of time to play loads on the deck at the moment. I have installed quite a few games and managed to try some, Mages of Mystralia
Valkyria Chronicles™, Sparklite, Rise of the Third Power, Hollow Knight, Super Blood Hockey, Ori and the Blind Forest Definitive Edition all seem to run fine. I've tried a few others quickly but can't remember them off top of my head.
Grid worked great as well, although I do find the triggers a little small which makes feathering the throttle a bit more challenging but we'll get there in the end.
I'll probably not bother playing AAA games on the deck more like Final Fanatsy games and games like The Walking Dead, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Indivisible, Monster Sanctuary. I will keep looking at what people says runs great and have a butchers at the ones that take me fancy.

I'll have to save up money for 2-3 months, but I hope I'll get mine still this year. Since my PC is old af, I'm gonna play the games I couldn't enjoy on it, i.e. games like Control, Resident Evil 7-8 (and all the remakes), A Plague Tale (and its upcoming sequel).

Hi,
I just got my Steam Deck and I'm really excited about the library that I've built up, but when I first got the Steam Deck I honestly felt overwhelmed of the games that I want to play. As time got by I found my rhythm.
I'm making this thread because I would like to hear what recommendations you've got for games you've played, verified, playable or unsupported (that you tweaked and made them work).
Currently I've dipped again my toes in the following games:
Feel free to throw at me weird games that not many share online, as I'd love to discover them. I do want to use my Steam Deck for games that are either older and visually aren't the main thing about it, or indies, like Slay the Spire and Dead Cells and platformers that just feel better with a controller, like Ori and the Will of the Wisps or puzzle games like TUNIC.
Lastly, I don't mind trying to play JRPGs because I've noticed I just don't play any and maybe on the handheld I'll finally get myself to play the FINAL FANTASY franchise.
