It is a bit smile-cracking that you really believe people actually look at what they enter. =) In the rare cases a human hand presses that one-click enter button, most of the times it is done because either the point value is high enough to make them want it (what it is associated with is irrelevant) or because the thumbnail picture looks pretty.

Interesting. I guess I am a rare one then, since I actually am selective in what I enter, only entering for games I actually want to play, and giving away games I either already own, or do not own but know I will never play. And I check all games against my actual Steam Library , including bundles or remasters, that may have gotten new appID's assigned.
I like you tal, but you need to lower down the biting cynicism and bi of disrespect there. You are casting a wide blanket over a large group of people you know nothing about, but assume only the worst about. Really not cool tal. And a bot would not have told you so. :p

I am casting a blanket I see. I also saw that most recurring forum-users tend to avoid creating level 0 public giveaways, but this is where around 90% of the standard users reside; groups, whitelists, level 3+… these are all the usual and widely-used tools that help to make life significantly better to the gifter, but by shutting out tens to hundreds of thousands of users.
So, it is easy to never see how the actual average Joe user here—who never enters the forums but uses the giveaways—behaves. The average mentality I see is: "eh, the site is free, and I may win something", with the emphasis on "something", no matter what it is.
On the plus side, things are a lot better even on that front than a year ago. Thanks to the win alert emails the site sends, the average time to get someone to activate a game dropped from the average of 2-4 days to 3-12 hours.
Also thanks to the gigantic bot crackdown, the amount of new gift infractions I see has dropped drastically—I have sent fewer tickets this year than on a busier month in 2017, despite increasing the monthly output a little. As a side effect, the soulless and pointless empty "thanks" spam also stopped almost entirely.
But the behaviour of entering everything pretty remained: Take two almost identical games with identical prices, attach a cute anime thumbnail to one and a standard GameGuru-made stock photo to the other, and you can see that the former will get ten times more entries, even if its store page would flat-out say it is a fake game. Most of the entries seem to be first impression impulse-entries, not much more.

DLCs should be checked via the Steam client in detailed view. Store pages are not reliable.

I know what your post is about. Some games and dlc do not correctly show as owned on the store pages. I am not talking about cases where there is no store page available.

Since I've been on SG I haven't come across any where this doesn't show correctly. What ones have you come across?

Always been doing that. Bumping for new users who aren't as familiar with Steam.

Another tip that ties in with this if you have DLC (or some Deluxe* gametypes as FateOfOne calls it) as a key and don't want to trust a winner's word on them not owning it.
You can add the DLC to your basket and proceed to purchase as gift. There it will show you who on your friends list already owns it, at which point you can abort the purchase.
Of course this requires the person to be on your friends list and the DLC having an active store page.
*Due to Steam's inconsistent way of handling Deluxe games this doesn't always work. Fallout 3 GOTY for example is a separate app id from Fallout 3, whereas Fallout New Vegas Ultimate is a sub id that includes Fallout New Vegas.

You can also check by the appid
https://steamcommunity.com/id/<your id>/friendsthatplay/<app id>
This trick also works for games and DLCs without a store page. But you still need to be friend with the other person.

Most if not all the nice and good people on my WL and in my WL group know what you ask for already however when I post a (SGTools) train thread I post the following as a reminder for the more veteran SG users and as a heads up for the new SG users:
My trains always take the scenic route so that SG users have the time to take this ride, no matter their geographical location, time zone, real life and SG point issues. But before this ride ends PLEASE CHECK your entries for games with Steam api problems, removed games, Valve banned games, game collections, game packages and bundles because these aren't automatically removed during SG syncing aka PLEASE CHECK if you’re entering for a game you already have. To help with this I have only used games and not DLCs for making giveaways for this train but PLEASE DO CHECK before this train has ended, just to make me and SG support happy! ;-)

Greetings everyone! I hope all of you are enjoying your weekend. I wanted to take a second and post two tips I think will help some new members as well as some older members concerning DLC and delivering winnings via Steam.
On SG member's can still enter into giveaways for regular DLC as well as "Deluxe" or "Game Of The Year" games that include the base game and DLC even if they have it already. Rather than checking manually, log into Steam via your Web Browser and then click on the DLC or deluxe version of a game being giveaway. When you do this Steam will let you know if you own it or not by the green notification stating it's in your library. You can find an example of it in the pic.. This definitely beats having to search manually for it.
As far as giving someone a game they won via steam gift is concerned listing in the description that it is a Steam gift and you will need to add the winner as a friend on Steam is a really good idea. Some people don't accept random friend requests for whatever reason, so if that's posted they have at least a small indication that friends request from someone they don't know may be coming.
I know some of you guys do this and know these things already, but I'm sure this will help a few people. Have a great day everyone :)
