Batman: Arkham City GOTY play issues

Is anyone else having problems opening up floor grates? When I hover over one it says to press LCTRL + SPACE. Then I do and it changes the message to SPACE while I'm crouching over the grate. I had beat the heck out of my keyboard when playing as Catwoman, who had to drop down into a cage to reach the window to her house to get her equipment, and somehow managed to open one and get my stuff but I have no idea how I did it. I have never been able to get Batman to open any at all. What am I doing wrong or are others having this problem too?

EDIT: Something is strange. I bound the run/glide/use key to the left shift key instead of the default spacebar and all is well now. I'm wondering now what is causing this to happen because my spacebar worked fine for the other functions that it does.

It's not a combination of keys, it means you need to be crouching and press space.

I tried that way too. I did read where one guy said that a programmed hotkey from another program could be interfering and suggested that MSN Messenger was doing it but that was only on the GFWL versions that required Messenger to run while playing and not the Steam version. The only program I run while playing is the Raptr client. I think I'll try playing with Raptr off and see if that's the issue. If it's not I don't know where to begin looking for anything else. :(

And it wasn't Raptr either. I have a friend who just tried to figure it out on my PC and he was having the same problem as I did.

Maybe it's your mouse? Assuming you have a gaming mouse with 5+ buttons and have Crouch or Run mapped onto one.

Yup, I tried that too. I switched to a different (normal) mouse and made sure that the keys were set to default. It's been frustrating to say the least.

Yes. I just bound the run/glide/use key to the left shift key and it's working now. It does seem weird that I had no problems running or gliding with the default settings - it was just opening the grates.
