Well I've been trying to get into anime so if you could recommend me some anime shows that are free (nothing illegal). Also, I've been trying to start drawing, but I suck, so if you could recommend anything with that that would be nice (not just anime, but other stuff too). I'm new to both of the areas.

genres, we need genres, if we are to suggest you something!

everything animated is "anime", so we could even suggest you My Little Pony which is legally streamed on some sites

Edit: yeah, I know what OP means, I still think he should name genres though.
Sorry for implying all cartoons are anime.

By the way, I suggest:

Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood (better than the first FMA)
Inuyasha
Death Note

and check out these genre sorted images:

they may be a little dated, but not that bad.

I think you know what I'm getting at. Not cartoons or animations. I'm new to it, so I'd be up for any suggestions, except I'm not really into vampire junk and stuff like that.

Anime is a term used to describe a subset of Animation created in Japan.
My Little Pony, and all the other "anime", as you put it, are cartoons, which derives from the west.

Still, it's like asking what tv shows to watch without knowing your preferences.
The only thing you gave us is that you like try to start drawing, which is when I would recommend Bakuman. It's about two high schoolers trying to become mangaka, same writer as Death Note. So that is related to you I guess.

Well, if you really live in Japan, there are plenty of shops that sell anime cheaply. I would suggest Hetalia or Gintama for laughs, Ouran High School Host Club for comedy/romance, and Fruits Basket for the equivalence of Winter Sonata. It's great.

Check your local China town/Korea town/ Asia town. Swap meets are also good places to find DVDs and other merchandise if you life in a decent sized city. If you live in bumsvill in the middle of nowhere USA, then probably not.

Also, check our CrunchyRoll.com for legal streams.

About drawing: This might be useful
Look for some tutorials on the internet(danbooru, pixiv, deviantart) and buy some books about drawing. There's plenty of them .

About anime, you can use streaming sites like Crunchyroll if you want them legally, but they don't have great classics, mostly ongoing series. I recommend:

Hunter x Hunter
Eyeshield 21
Sket Dance

Gintama is also great, but it's boring at the beginning and it has many references to Japanese culture you might not get.
That's the only way to get anime legally for free, I guess.

EDIT: Also, check Mark Crilley's channel on YT, he has tons of tutorials.

Sorry if I didn't make it clear. I'm am pretty much just stating off with anime and have only watched a little bit. I guess I am looking for "light" and just fun stuff to start off with. Maybe I created a thread to early. Something that is easy to get into for people new to the area.

Free as in I don't have to spend money for it. I might in the future, but I'm just starting. I could always try a library or something though.

Well BakaBT is a good site if your ok with downloading unlicensed Anime, its sort of a grey area, never heard of a law suit. Info

Most Anime you kinda need to buy unless you use a site like crunchyroll which is annoying because of commercials.

Last option would be Ebay since you can get anime for real cheap usually.

Anyways I recommend: Code Geass, Serial Experiment Lain, When They Cry Higurashi, Boogiepop Phantom, Durarara!!, Baccano, 11eyes, Infinite Stratos, Shakugan no Shana, Mobile Suit Gundam, Zeta Gundam, Gundam 00, Death Note, Samurai Champloo, Ergo Proxy, Deadman Wonderland, Blood+, Blood-C, Eden of the East, .hack//SIGN, Monster, Elfen Lied, Blue Gender, Hellsing, Rurouni Kenshin.

If you want legal, free anime, you should check out crunchyroll.com. It has advertisements, but that's about the only way to get it for free legally. They also sell subscriptions for $7 per month which give you unlimited ad-free access.

My biggest issue with them is that they don't offer language options most of the time(if the dubbing is well done, I prefer English audio) but I have a subscription there because I like to support the industries that provide my entertainment.

They also have some big gaps in their library, where if you have a particular show in mind, you might have to resort to less than legal methods.

As for a recommendation, I just started watching Sword Art Online. I'm about half way through and really enjoying it. There's also a forum there that that can probably help with recommendations within the site's library.

Simply check /a/ recommendation lists. Everything on them is worth your while. After you get over them, you should be able to efficiently use such sites as myanimelist.net or other databases of anime & manga.
