Instead of calling him out here, send a report to SteamRep with evidence. If they approve your evidence they will flag their Steam profile as a scammer. Scammers in the end will only create another account to scam with, but at least you give them some trouble.

steamrep is a waste. i dont know anyone who takes that site seriously.. they are SO understaffed and have such an impossible backlog that lots of claims just get forgotten, remain unprocessed... i admire what it tries to do, but you really cant trust it as a reliable place unfortunately..

What I understood from your explanation is that the scammer has charged back a purchased gift he sent you. In this kind of scam you have absolutely no way of knowing that the person is scamming you, because you have no way to know if someone will charge back the purchase of a gift or not.

Obviously they are putting their account on the line, so they'll always be using a trash account with few games and low level, but in the end, if this happens to you, you should contact Steam Support to see if they can reverse the trade, they might be able to identify you were given in a trade a gift that was charged back - and then, the trade would be reversed (and you would get your stuff back).

Dont do big trades with people with little or no rep.
Hard lesson learned, sorry

Exactly this. I never deal with anyone below Steam Level 10, and even users of level 10-20 aren't to be completely trusted, as that level range is incredibly easy to achieve spending little to no money. You can have a better degree of safety with users of level 30 and greater.

You weren't stupid, that specific kind of scam is very hard to avoid. And there is a chance you can get your stuff back if you contact Steam Support with evidence like I described above.
