Getting this bundle today? :)
It's just getting worse per VN bundle..
Why the heck they don't just rename them 'The Eroge Bundle' and be done with it, I don't know. :X
It's pretty frustrating for people that like VN games but have no interest in sexual pandering within them, seeing those cool banners for the bundles, clicking on them, and realizing the lack of playable content :P
That is to say, my issue is with the 'mistyping' of the bundle name..
Especially after preordering the second bundle :( Major disappointment there..
That they didn't tell us how many were eroge during the preorder is indicative of the worst elements of how Groupees typically mishandles preorder information-giving. :/
Saying 'Oh, but eroge are visual novels also!' is like saying 'Hey, we know we promised you a Horse Bundle, but mules are kinda like horses, so here are a ton of mules.' :P

I don't judge anyone by what they want to do with their free time.
It's not any weirder than people that like playing Plants Versus Zombies- and less weird than enjoying Farmville :P
It's just having cool banners and misleading bundle names that throws me :/
You wouldn't make an Action Film Bundle and then fill it with only porn films with action themes, right? :P
Not sure why this is treated differently :/
But yeah, I love a good RPG or a good VN, and if there's story-related 18+ content in it, that may actually ENHANCE the story [so long as I don't have to waste time playing through a lame X-rated minigame :P]. But when the story is just an excuse for 18+ content, that's no longer remotely interesting :X

I agree with you. If people want eroge bundles, that's fine, but VN and eroge are not naturally synonymous. I expected, you know, perhaps something like Planetarian or something, which I would be totally sold on, but this... well, I'm glad I didn't preorder.

I've been trying to get the point across to the site admins, and they just seem /so confused/.
Admin: "Well.. I don't really get Visual Novels.. I dunno.."
Me: "Well, can you at least tell us how many 18+ games there are in a bundle preorder? That seems reasonable information to give out."
Admin: "This current bundle is all 18+ games.."
Me: "Yes.. I know.."
Admin: "...
I don't get it."
Was basically the sum of the discussion :X
Even assuming I was somehow confusing in explaining the matter, it seems they definitely don't get the fundamental concepts involved, such as how eroge and VNs aren't synonymous, or why it's useful to tell people on a preorder if A: adult content is included or B: if the genre listed doesn't match typical expectations for that genre association.

Ah well. Groupees is still one of the most friendly, accessible, and trustworthy bundle sites..
Just a pity about how they handle bundle formatting, externally-curated bundles, and preorders :/
Nevermind how annoying chat abilities can be. :P

It really seems to be an issue of, 'they mean well', but 'they just don't get how to do things in a way the users want'.
They get so confused when I try to make points that seem obvious to most of us [1: Note clearly if a bundle is externally curated and just hosted by Groupees, 2: don't mistype genres, 3: give general quality estimates and genre types of preorders- let us know if we're getting porn or 45% average rating (total among all the games)].
For the most part, they've gotten better about 3, but you still see some major snafus, especially with VN2 and some recent externally curated ones.

I am working on my own visual novel, its all in the concept stage, but I hope for it to be done in a year to year and a half. It will not be a hentai novel but it will have an interesting plot. I don't know that much about the VN audience, how big is it?(easiest to compare it to a different genres)

I honestly have no clue. I just saw Planetarian which was about an android and was like "That looks cool" so I'm not a VN veteran or anything. I have some experience, but I'm still an amateur and I don't connect with a bunch of VN groups or anything.

https://www.reddit.com/r/visualnovels/comments/2navwt/the_statistics_of_visual_novels_on_steam/
Or click here to go directly to the spreadsheet. Sort the spreadsheet by the last column (Est total sold).
Going off that information:
A good VN can expect 100,000 purchases on Steam alone.
A poor one is lucky to break 1,000, apparently.
I believe all those statistics were prior to any of the games listed being put into bundles, meaning that's the number of games you'd expect to sell at full retail versus at the tiny fraction bundles give.
Of course, itch.io and other sites exist to market your indie game as well.
In other words, if you want to see good results, make sure your story and art are really good, and market the game well- else you're unlikely to see too much of a positive response.

Thanks for the help, I did not know about itch.io, do you have any advice on marketing? I am not to much of a VN player but i'm starting to, just so I can get some Ideas of how they work well, and not so well. I'm not sure if any visual novel has done what I am doing, as I want to add some educational aspects into hte game, plus lots of secrets that won't be announced until it gets on green light. also conseder your self whitelisted for the stats, I like stats.

As far as publicizing a game goes-
Contrary to the common sentiment, you only want good exposure.
If you get any bad reviews, address them as best as you can, and always be responsive, polite, and professional in your replies.
Publicize in places that get a lot of traffic for gamers, especially of that genre.
VN publicity is, in my experience, run mostly through blogs, so you could find some bloggers to send free copies of the game to (and bloggers generally'll note the game for free, rather than most site advertisements).
Make sure to get feedback on your game before you release it openly, closed beta is critical to making a good game. No designer, no matter how good they are, can note all the concerns in a game, mostly because there will always be people that think differently than them and have expectations the designer does not.
It's also critical to finding any bugs early :X
Past all that, the best way to do marketing is just to keep at it, making sure word of mouth of the game keeps continuing to spread.
The best way to do that is to have an inherently good game, of course :)
Offering a community site for your game also often helps get people more invested in the game, as do things like Kickstarter- though for what you're proposing, it's unlikely to get much support on KS until you've released a game already.
Also, finally- rather than just looking at what VNs 'work', I'd suggest looking at some of the lowest rated VNs out there to see what DOESN'T work. Figure out what people don't like, and why, and you'll have the best heads-up on making a good game you can get :)

It's not that I'm surprised that such a thing exists, it's that someone made a comment to that effect and wasn't joking. :P
Ah, ah.
Well, it looks surprisingly legit, at least, so there's that.
I really like their banner art, especially. o.O
Really.. not what you'd expect :P
Edit: Then I tabbed to another bundle and nope, that banner was totally what I'd expect :X
