…reducing the amount of games on your wishlist.

I recently took a long hard look at my wishlist and managed to reduce it from over 300 games to around 70. It does mean that I win fewer games on this site, but when I do win a game I know it’s something I really want to play. It also makes sales less overwhelming because it’s easier to keep track of deals and make better decisions about purchases. Overall, I end up getting less games but that gives me more time to dedicate to games that I’m really excited to play.

Anyway, have some games (whether they are on your wishlist or not :)).

And for my blue hearts:
Ryse: Son of Rome
Tales of Berseria
Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition

EDIT: added another gib for my blue hearts.

Yes, I could probably trim some fat.
No, I genuinely want to play all the games I have on my wishlist.
No way! Only 25981 games to go before I own everything on steam!

Also, I was one of like 3 people to buy the 24 game on PS2 back in the day. From my memory. if you ever hurt a friendly, it would say something like "Mission failed: Michelle was killed" or the like. But the first time I saw Kim, I lit her up and I got a special message: "Mission failed: It is unacceptable to hurt Kim". I guess they knew it was inevitable.

Surprisingly no mountain lions in that game.

So who was the third person, cos I bought it as well? I didn't even care that it was a crappy game :D I don't remember trying to hurt friendlies though. I guess I was trying to be the best Bauer I could possibly be ;)

Definitely playing games I want to play and removing games I will never play. I removed hundreds of trash games from my account and it was much more organized. I also use to force myself to finish something because it's a game I owned and I needed to finish it. Now I'm attempting to stop when I'm not having fun and try something else I want to play.

That pretty much sums up my approach. Though, rather than removing games I just put them in my "Not Interested" folder. I also used to force myself to finish games but I realised that I'd never get around to playing all the games I have if I carried on for too long. So now I'm usually happy if I've at least tried games for a couple of hours.

Don't force yourself to finish a game you don't enjoy. And while I could certainly trim my 600+ wishlist, I only do so during sales :D

Playing only if I'm in the mood for the game.
Always got around 30+ games from all genres under Favorites installed that stay there until I'm either finished or don't want to play them atm anymore and put them into my "in progress - later" folder😁
Also I only go for achievements (or 100%) if the road to it is fun....can't understand how people actually do things like killing 200k zombies in Dead Rising 4 (because a playthrough is only about 30k....)

30+ installed games?! You must have a big hard drive :D Sorting games into folders helps me stay on top of things as well. I also have a similar approach to achievements :)

3TB is big enough for way more than 30 games...doing this just since the start of the year, before that I never bothered uninstalling any games I finished and had about 400 installed (pretty much every game I won here and all others I played or wanted to play...even games from 4+ years ago🙄)

Trying to enjoy every game I play to the fullest, while not making myself endure a game I don't enjoy.

Everything on my wishlist is something I think I want to play and think I would enjoy based on reviews I've read.

Rarely, I'll come across a game I thought I'd like, but really don't. Planetary Annihilation was one such game, which was nowhere near as fun as the trailers led me to believe. I finished a campaign and had no desire to return to it. I also tried Blades of Time, and didn't enjoy it at all. I got passed the first boss - who is practically immune to range damage, and glitched out the first time I defeated him, requiring me to reload and fight him again - and had no desire to continue. Time is too short and too valuable to waste it on games that aren't fun.

For what it's worth, I have 134 games and 2 DLC on my wishlist, though 7 of those are free games that I added just to remind myself to play them when I get the chance. So, really, 127 games and 2 DLC on my wishlist. I would play each and every one, given the chance and the time.

Time is definitely too short to waste on bad games. Especially when you factor in work and family life. I probably forced myself to remove some games from my wishlist that id potentially enjoy, and kept the ones I definitely knew I would love. I just want to get round to playing all the awesome games I have!

I just play games whenever I feel like it. Sadly I rarely complete games any more because of that but I still enjoy games a ton whenever I am playing them. I also read plenty and watch a lot more tv shows now so there's more things to enjoy. I just close the game as soon as it gets boring so I'm actually enjoying gaming a lot more than I used to. I do the same with shows and novels though, for example I enjoyed the first few seasons of 24 but it eventually got boring so I just dropped it. Sorry BauerBoy24.

As long as you enjoy the time you spend when you're gaming, then it really doesn't matter if you don't complete anything :)

And don't tell anyone I said this but I know what you mean about the later series of 24 ;) I absolutely adored the first 3 series and series 5, then the quality did start to drop.

i used to sort out my wishlist alot. i always had under 100 games and would repeatedly recheck again and again incase i decided actually i dont want that. however now a days i dont care. i have too many games on my wishlist and i know this but i just dont care anymore. i put everything i want on my wishlist and i keep rechecking still. but what i got gives me an idea on what i could go for next when theres a sale on. in the mean while if i win something on my wishlist from this site then thats great. while it may take a while i do try everything i buy or win. heck i hated castle crashers but i got gifted it, i didnt just leave it to gather dust i still played it with a friend. but its amazing of you to have managed to reduce it by that much. while i didnt enter any giveaways since my recently reduced lvl got rid of the only 1 i wanted. i thank you

Well, playing games you buy or win is the main goal anyway, so I guess the size of the wishlist doesn't matter in your case. I just realised that with all the games I already own adding others that I'm not 100% interested in would be a bit counter productive :)

Hope you get your level back up soon :)

I keep 50-100 games on my Steam wishlist (currently at 85) which are all ones I'm very interested in.
The rest that I'm only kind of interested in, and don't really care if I ever play, go to my barter.vg wishlist.

For me, playing games is only a small contributor to feeling happy. There will always be a new game released with better graphics, soundtracks, DLC content, features, etc.

Finding balance with my work and home life is very important to me.

After all, work and home life should take priority over gaming in the end. So you've got the right approach :) Admittedly, I'd much rather play games all day than work, but such is life ;)

I recently reduced my wishlist from 317 to 299 and that was already a challenge. Few days later (after my big monthly store check) it's back to 310 now.

I do wish Steam would make it easier to sort my rankings though (what also would make it easier to clean up the wishlist occasionally, if it was easier to see "the bottom").
Browser search only works for the first few entries. Steam's wishlist search finds every game, but doesn't allow to address the game with a specific rank. It doesn't even show you the current rank, so that you could find it by scrolling to that position. Nope, you have to scroll through all of it if you want to give a specific game a specific position. Madness.

Comment has been collapsed.

I checked and you're right, once you search you lose the number rankings. That is pretty stupid! To be fair, they did improve it with the last overhaul but they could definitely do a lot better. I guess they are catering to the average user that has 10 to 15 games on their wishlist and not SteamGifters ;)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You are right, it improved. About that specific point Steam's previous wishlist was better though. ;)
And with Enhanced Steam it offered all current improvements + the previous feature. So currently it's more like a downgrade, if you used that browser extension.

I guess you have to be strict or it could easily get out of control again. But I really think it's worth it! It just makes the whole experience more worthwhile. It really makes you think about what kind of games you enjoy and then getting those games is that much more satisfying.

I don't know the secret to happiness outside of gaming either. I try to live for moments, rather than thinking about the big picture too much. That kinda helps.

Used to do that myself too back in the day. But just like many others here, get too lazy to actively update it.
Usually only trim it once a year just before sales, and even then some that are on the fence of being dropped still stay on the list.
