I'm against the minimum playtime restriction:

  • Steam is not always accurate in recording playtime
  • Some people enjoy playing non-steam (indie) games would be excluded, although they spend the same or more time (e.g. are as passionate about games) as those with a high steam rating.

And I'm doubtful regarding the average playtime requirement - if you buy bundles (hib, publisher packs) you are bound to have loads of unplayed/less played titles, so I doubt this would be an accurate metric of player interest in gaming.

Yeah, I've had 40 minutes playtime recorded as 2 minutes, and that seems to be pretty normal. As well, there are people who prefer to play in offline mode.

How about when you've finished all games you have on steam? Or when you've only played non-steam games recently?;-)

So that people who i.e. play lots of Minecraft have less chances to win something?

This. Plus its easy to get around it, just leave some small game idling.

How would this work with private profiles?

just make your steam profile public.

A private and friends only setting is the stupidest thing valve has ever done with steam imo.

Not everyone had to know everything about our steam profiles.

Team Fortress idlers make this irrelevant.

That's true actually... my 9.9 hours in TF2 in the past two weeks was really only spent in text mode. Sorry dudes.

In that case, how about a setting to exclude TF2 idlers from giveaways! ;)

Never won a giveaway makes this totally good.

People will just make another account... making this a bad idea...

There are protections against multiple accounts, but yes it is a good idea to not give incentive to circumvent those restrictions :)

That being said: random is random and I prefer to keep it that way. If certain giveaways could enact such restrictions I would be okay with seeing that :) I don't mind being excluded from some giveaways if the gifter really wants to give the game to someone who hasn't won anything.

Average Playtime X Minutes on each game - Alt-Tab much?
Minimum Playtime Last 2 Weeks - Alt-Tab much?
Less than X Games - Quantity over quality?
Never won a game - Ok, I suppose.

I would like a 'Never won a game' option.

Or also a Comments >= Entries option, to filter out those who never thank the donator.

Better than NEVER won a game, maybe "has won less than x% of giveaways he/she has entered". Because I don't think that someone who just won a game out of 1000 giveaways can't win anything else.

I have to disagree - everything that encourages people to enter as many giveaways as possible isn't really rational.

Sure there are points to limit the amount of entries, but people could just hog 5P games in order to get a higher loss percentage (which would result in higher win percentage)

Then divide the number of points spent in the entries by the number of points that the won game cost.
Winning a 40p game after have spent 100p is enough. However, someone who gets a 5p game after have spent more than 2000p is like winning nothing.

Also i suggest to disable for some time, or give less points to those who had the luck of winning too much. Maybe 4X the average. I mean, if an average user wins a game every 100 entries, a user who wins 4 by entering 100 should be prevented for some time from entering more.

OoooOoooOOOoooh, like a giveaway that can span multiple groups and anyone who is a member of at least one group can enter?

I like that idea :)
