A user changed his name a few days ago and now it says the gift he received wan't, is this just because he's name is now different? will steam sync back up with this? what's going on?

A name change should not affect that.
When I got my name change it didn't at all affect any of the feedback from the gifts I've gotten or the gifts I've sent.

Better do a screenshot of his inventory, that might help when you will be talking with SG support. It will be your proof that you sended the game.

You will need a picture of the trade history to prove he accepted the gift. That is all needed i guess.

Well checking profiles I found him and if it's "him", rush to a screenshot, he has a lot of games not claimed in his inventory and one is a "The Ships - Gift"

By the way, he hasn't any "The Ship" activated in his account.

Ah okay, thanks. Just seem odd he's name didn't update on steamgifts. I took some screen shots in case, shame can't take a screen shot of chat history too. I know he has another account as asked me to send it to that one after i already send it to him
I'll see what's up when he's next on line, otherwise i might have to see SG support

Definitely try to contact the support people since this all sounds a bit odd. People are only allowed one account here, so I wouldn't want to speculate on the reason a person would ask you to send their won game to a completely different steam account.
