Was seeing comments about it being bad.Well,I quite liked it,better than origin or GFWL anyways, for you actually win stuff by earning achievements and shit, like getting a costume for Ezio,a bonus map in Splinter Cell and so on.What about you guys?
EDIT:I feel you guys, because I recently contacted Ulplay for an incorrect product code, and they send me an answer in fucking german(I do know a fair bit,but this is completely ridiculous -.- )

Agreed. It's trendy to like whats grassroots and "against the corporations". Lots of smaller sites have gained customers just by saying they are alternative. People forget that if these small companies get enough sales, they would probably grow into being the same sort of business as the big companies.

^ And most than once I got some kind of problem somewere (usualy comunication I guess) between these two, and so you need to close Uplay, close steam, open steam, launch game again, wait uplay load....
Even worse, if you launch a uplay game from steam just this game is apear on Uplay it don't even show the rest of your pure uplay games or other steam-uplay games -.-
This get tiring very very quick... (Even EA games when I have it on steam I can just play it on steam >.o)

But the general idea of giving points/stuff for achievments in general is a nice one, just too bad that it make these achievs don't apear on steam at all =/ (Not a huge achiev hunter myself, but I had friends mad with that XD)
Also, for the pure uplay/no-steam games, I keep forgeting about them as I don't see them on my steam library ._.

It has to launch Uplay over Steam, because you wouldn't get achievements, points and such if it just ran like a normal game without Uplay. Uplay has problems, but so does everything else. It needs a bit of tuning, but it's an alright piece of software.

Bad servers, down often. Takes literally 10x the capacity of your computer, the redeeming is very badly scripted, one guy tried to redeem, uplay crashes, tries again, claims code used, tries a few times, banned for brute forcing. It's just shit.

I don't hate it but:
servers are down sometimes (No MP)
sometimes it won't record achievements (although I couldn't care less about it)
It adds a secondary overlay unless you disable it. Recording fps gets hit a lot if you forgot to turn it off
I haven't experience this but, some people are complaining about issues on invalid cd-keys in uplay games so they can't play it asap (release dates)

This is how it goes :

You install your game via Steam, but it doesn't tell you you are also installing Uplay.

You start up your game, Uplay launches and starts updating,

Now you are forced to make an account and register your CD-KEY,

Everytime you exit the game, Uplay opens up and says some random ass message

uplay multiplayer servers are broke and deauthorises your game.. won't let you even play single player.

got a retail game? install uplay client for it. got a downloaded uplay game you brought from their website? install a different uplay client. got a steam based uplay game?.. that's right, enjoy your third uplay client.

until recently with their new updated uplay client, it was stupid even trying to register a game, you had to jump though hoops, trying to find the correct version of play and hoping you got the correct short cut command line added so you could add the game so it showed up in the uplay client so you could actually enter your key.

lets not forget the silly always on DRM that they said they removed, but didn't really for the most part.

I don't hate it. But I have a friend who does, because he bought AC3 at full price and - as he told - he wants to have fun with a game, not constantly restart crashing Uplay and replay the same parts dozen of times because game quits on Uplay disconnects (does this game really drop you off any time it loses connection?). Needless to say, he has a quality rig with a clean OS just for gaming and his provider is so stable I envy him, so it's hard to blame anything else than uplay.
I'm just not using it a lot because I don't buy Ubi games for multiplayer anymore, since they turn multiplayer off far too soon for my liking. I didn't play enough of multiplayer in any Splinter Cell or HAWX.

bacause bad servers, usual downtimes (no multiplier) and some bad decisions made in the past.

For example - AC2 is a singleplayer game, but back in days when they launched it it required online connection to servers to play as a DRM. On premiere servers were so flooded they crashed - and kept crashing for several days. So in the end people who bought a single player game on first day couldn't play it for like 4-5 days because servers were down, while ppl who downloaded it from TPB (it was cracked in 5 hours since launch) finished the game by the time some of us were able to even start it. It was looong time ago, but ppl tend to remember such stuff if it happened to them.

People who bought hommVI couldn't play something stable and with most of the 1day promises in +1 year. There are still issues unsolved and fans throw it to the trash. I rejected to buy it as a lot of them waiting for a final decent patch, but it's too late. Now nobody wants to play it so no sense to buy it.

yup, but as you may or may not know AC2 didn't have multiplayer yet. servers and always-online option were required as a DRM thing only. When you cannot play multiplayer game on day 1 because servers are overloaded it sucks but it happens. When you cannot play singleplayer game with no multiplayer options whatsoever for 5 days since it got released, because DRM servers are overloaded - it's totallly different story.

you sure 5 days? afaik, it took them almost 1 month for SKIDROW to provide proper crack. before that, pirates have to play memory by memory that was successfully cracked until SKIDROW version came up.

few things - first I think you may mistake it with other AC game, 2nd 5days were about UPlay - servers were heavily overloaded and people unable to play (at least in EU) for first 5 days. And SKIDROW crack was out hours after release - I even DLed it and played it for first days, as I was unable to run legally bought copy.

no, I'm pretty sure I'm talking about AC2. and I don't any issues when playing AC2 on release day. there are crack version released after AC2 was released, but it's not a proper crack, pirates can only play first few memories only until SKIDROW release the proper crack.

sauce 1 Joystiq report.

sauce 2 140 pages of ppl reporting not being able to connect to launch servers. Not to mention the fact that prior to this topic they were censoring posts and deleted like 2-3 hundreds pages of complaints in other 2 forum topics.

So again - are you sure you mean AC2 not any further release AND played it on release day? if so you were quite a lucky one - cause many of us couldn't play it for days.

about the launch server, can't comment on that. guess I was just lucky.

about the skidrow crack, that one I'm sure, i keep tab on the pirate site about the crack and the progress until they release the offline crack.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I won't argue if it was a SKIDROW for sure, as I won't research every crack and all it's versions now few years afret release, but playable (don't know if bug-free but playable) version was out HOURS after release. And like you can see in 2nd link provided ppl were unable to play legally bought version for days (and some unluckies even for weeks).

And the problem lied exactly in UPlay, game was finished, nicely polished, without gamebreaking bugs (not like for example in not-long-ago SimCity case) - it not working was only a case of not-working forced always online UPlay DRM. Hard to have warm feeling for them after such an experience.

are you sure you're talking about AC2? IIRC, there are playable version posted in pirate site, but they can't even get through the first memory. then someone managed to create server emulator for AC2, but still to update regularly since only few memories are playable. when skidrow come out with the offline crack then pirates can finish the game.

also, did you tried the pirate version before skidrow?

Players had experienced a lot of problems with their games such being unable to play. Fails in updates, fails in patches, bad patches on games which break games. Unbalaances is a strong point in ubisoftstrategy games. Bugs, thousands of bugs. Being unable to load saved games "on their cloud", losing saved games. Must be connected online and update Ushit and must patch games when trying to play offline or single. Being unable to play games saved due to being started with previous patch (infinite incompatibilities).
Those are the reasons for some players, for those who didn't experience them as me because I omited ushit, it,s just contagied hate, finally for those with no friends in contact it,s a trend.

Because that's just another unnecessary layer of software with little to no benefit.

Everyone's free to work with Valve and publish on Steam. Why not take advantage of this great opportunity and offer your products to a broad audience of about 50 million users. Now people have to have like what, 5 DRM clients to play their favorite games.

Steam - Tons of games, millions of concurrent players online, client needs some improvement. Overall a good deal.

Origin - Decent client and some nice games but screw EA for constant clusterfuck business decisions. (Does Origin still scan your PC?).

Uplay - Few nice games but that's actually it. Stupid client and stupid policies. Oh hey, you wanna change your mail address? Contact support.

GFWL - Fuck you and your dll errors. Microsoft, get your shit together. (NVM, 2014 is close.)

Battle.net - 3 games. Ladies, hold your orgasms!

The last one on this list is optional for now, but soon to be integrated with all new Blizzard titles.

Aside of Origin, the other 3 offer only a few games compared to Steam. Not to mention the basic features they lack.
Installing another DRM client for 2-3 games i wanna play makes no sense to me.

/rant... kinda.

Nah, people also hated origin until humbleBundle Release the origin bundle, now many people play on origin. I am sure that if in the future roll a bundle on Uplay, people will use it. The other platforms do not do any harm or hinder anyone. For me they are another way of getting more games.

It is true that more use is Steam by far, but I use all platforms, I've gotten very cheap games on Uplay and origin (Battlefield 3 for exameple is an awesome game. I got it 1 year ago). Other example is Assassins creed 3 on Uplay, poeple trade uplay keys from propmotional codes really more cheap than steam (because nobody want it). I do not mind playing a game on another platform different to steam.... it's the same game.

PD: it is also unnecessary to have 30 different car brands, we could drive all the same right? Monopolies are not good.
PD2: I got Diablo III and Starcraft 2 on Battle.net, but i think this is another history...
PD3: I hate GFWL... xD

If 29 of those 30 brands are inferior in terms of features, service, product prices and assortment, then why bother with them? In that case they clearly don't deserve my attention until they improve.

To be exact, it's not just Valve's hard work for having a monopoly in digital games distribution market, it's also Ubitronic BlizzSoft's laziness and inaction over the past ~10 years.

Not that i would support monopolies, but that's the truth. I can't blame Valve for doing their job.

Steam - Tons of games, millions of concurrent players online, client needs some improvement. Overall a good deal.

The only problem I have with steam is when I try to download a game such as Quake or doom, and I can't because I'm on a Mac, even though there are 3rd party mods that'll let it work (just like you have to download to run on windows xp or better anyway), yet I can't force steam to download the game content to get it to work.
I have to log into a windows machine, download the content, move it to the mac and then apply the patch/mod to run it.

Loads of my games are like that. Still, at least a lot of them do provide Mac and linux versions for free mind. Cross platform where it is supported by the developer does work.

Love all of the games, and besides that one issue I have had no other problems.. ( Keep in mind both Blood Dragon & Heroes of Might and Magic where bought via steam, Farcry 3 I bought elsewhere. )

At least for the most part I can play offline on steam. ( Though, sometimes it does require you to go online again. Really sucks when that happens especially if there is nothing you can do. )
