Take me for example. It most likely looks like i;ve been leeching the shit out of steamgifts. If you add in the keydrops ive done in the steamgifts group chat, i'd be over 2:1. I just feel that it can be bad for some users to be blacklisted instantly for just having a shit ratio on steamgifts.

Note: This isn't due to anything recently about me being blacklisted. Most likely i'll gain more blacklistings for just posting this. But fuck it. I'm BOAR!

Is it unfair to blacklist someone due to their steamgifts ratio?

Maybe?

You can blacklist for any reason you want. They're your giveaways and you can decide the type of opportunities you give to people. I know at the start I didn't blacklist people with terrible ratios but I did after they won one of my giveaways so that other people had a better chance than the person that's already won something from me and hasn't given much away. But I even quickly stopped doing that.

Well, you did manage to put them both in a single sentence.

+1. White and Blacklists have no rules attached to them and people are totally free to use them based on whatever criteria they see fit. Rulebreaking, ratio, opinions, personalities, first letters of usernames, mentioning the word "blacklist" in public, dice rolls, whatever. There's no requirement that you have to explain yourself, be fair in any way, or even have a reason at all. I've never asked anyone why they put me on either list, and I would be mildly annoyed if someone asked me why they're on one of mine.

Maybe you're guilty of the 'crime' of declining them or even seeming out of reach?

LOL

That's the root of most misogyny as far as I can tell.

All my blacklists date to when I've done giveaways, lol. Either the people didn't like that I gave away those games, or they didn't like that they didn't win.

EDIT: And strangely the ones I noticed have disappeared since the last time I checked. Weird.

Compared to some of the reasons why people blacklist others, I'd say ratio was a wonderful justification. Personally, I base BLs much more on behaviour than on any of the statistics the site is tracking.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Same here. The people I put on my blacklist are generally not very nice people. I only blacklist for ratio if it is really terrible (like 50 won games and 2 given).

what kills this site for me is people misbehaving and being rude. i have only blacklisted 1-2 people for leeching shamelessly (their steam accounts are worth way more than mine...) and i don't even bl for rule-breaking. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, that's what I meant when talking about behaviour - the few people I have on my BL are almost all for being rude in the discussion section, and just a couple for terrible ratios.

Permalink

The only reason I see to blacklist someone would be if they are regifting / making their own giveaways with games they won, or if they never changed their settings and are entering contests for games they already own.

Considering that getting blacklisted by random people is pretty much completely meaningless, no. Seriously, people should just stop caring already.

It's unfair mostly by the notion that you can't realistically blacklist all the people on steamgifts that don't fit your ratio requirements. Whoever gets stung by your blacklist are more victims of your passing attention than an equally-applied ratio sweep. It becomes as much a matter of luck then. If steamgifts had a way to apply broad-reaching blacklists then it'd be fair, but as far as I know, it doesn't.

Still, most people blacklist and whitelist for pretty random reasons, all the way down to making threads just to seek out people to add to either list or even making it a social trade of sorts. People often can't find a reasonable excuse to use either list, so they have to invent them, heh.

Not having to use either of them is probably a good thing, in my eyes.

Their right, end of story, there is no "fair" nor "right" about someone else BL or WL, their right, their will, nothing you can do and nothing you should care,

Depends of the situation. Usually, no. Ratio shouldn't mean much. However, when a user has 5x+ won than sent, over 2,000 games on Steam, an inventory full of CS:GO knives and over 200 trade reps? Yeah, confirmed leecher. If you can afford to trade you can afford to give.

Personally though, I don't blacklist for ratio, although recently I've stumbled upon some users which I seriously considered blacklisting just for the awful ratio alone.

I only consider real CV for ratio, not the number of giveaways won vs sent. When there is a huge or even big enough gap between real CV won and real CV sent, I act accordingly. Yes, this works in both ways: the user is either placed upon my BL or my WL.

And what gap is big enough?

Direct gifting screwed my real CV ratio. You would probably lynch me if you knew how much I could have added to what I already have.

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't have any ratio-based blacklists, although i'd probably blacklist people who clearly don't make any effort to give away. Someone with a 1/10 sent/won ratio would likely not get blacklisted by me, whereas a level 0~1.2 user who won 50+ games would.

I don't think it is unfair - you make the rules who you blacklist.

As for what I do: I wouldn't blacklist anyone for ratio, but though I also do 0+ and 1+ GAs, for much of my stuff and especially when I have good stuff to give away, I make higher level GAs. The winners still can have horrible ratio, but they sure have given away considerable amounts of games.

I feel like the whole ratio thing is stupid in general.
I try to give away a few games every now and than and, i always post my dublicate keys here instead of selling them on other sites or trading them for different games.
And Usually the people with high ratios also have like 2000 games on steam and are able to buy every bundle i don't have that much money also in the real value of these games is like nothing then.

Real CV is probably more fair to look it but its still not fair in my opinion.

Gifts won: 767.10 $ | 94 games
Average Price: 8.16$
Gifts sent: 270.78$ | 22 games
Average price: 12.31$

Sent/won Ratio: 0.23
Price Ratio: 0.35

Real Gifts won: 174.70 $ | 94 games
Average Price: 1.85$
Real Gifts sent: 108.65 $ | 22 games
Average Price: 4.94$

Real Price Ratio: 0.62

It really is not that expensive to get a good ratio. Look at me. I only give away games from bundles that had games I was personally interested in (and activated those keys myself). I only got a couple of bundles and games just to give away here when it was my cakeday.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I only buy bundles if i see more then 3 games i really like and the i usually play all games that i get. Or atleast try them also i maybe buy 1 bundle every month but i barely get any duplicates

Edit: And i know it isn't i could just buy 10 1$ bundles and give these keys away that would just get me a really high CV '
but, i would rather buy one 10$ game instead and give that away

32 blacklists and counting, anyone with a ratio of higher than 0 is a pleb. bring on the BL's you cheeky scrubs.

Permalink

But without those plebs you can't win anything.
But hey, I never do level 0 GA's anymore, so no need to BL you ;) If you can't be bothered to GA at least 1 game, why should I give you the opportunity to win a game from me. But yes, disrespect to people is a good way to get on my BL

I'd personally only consider to BL someone with a bad ratio if they won, let's say, $1,000 worth of games, but have given little to nothing back in return.

But even then, I don't know that I would. If I were to, though, I'd comment saying I blacklisted them so they can blacklist me in return. I think it's a major pussy move to block someone from entering your giveaways when you can still enter theirs... THAT is what I think is unfair.

Depends on the ratio and if it only are region locked / group giveaways. Also in one special case i blacklisted someone who had a private profile and didnt made it public so i couldnt check with sgtools.. next time i can save the effort.
