Two weeks ago today, my wife and I threw our second annual Saturday Morning Halloween Party* which, while not quite as successful as our first years, was still pretty rad. Since I'd just been paid the day before, I decided to impulsively buy a new set of speakers to give our music video playlist an extra oomf. I was a little tipsy that afternoon, as my best friend was in town for the first time in a while, and we kind of started the party early, if you know what I mean. In our somewhat inebriated state, we traveled to the nearest electronics retailer that wasn't London Drugs, and browsed their selection of computer speakers. I settled on the Logitech z623, which was priced at a fairly reasonable $189.99. Still more than I was planning to spend, mind you, but you only live once, amirite?

Fast forward to yesterday, my wife and I were browsing random stores, killing time as we waited for our dinner reservation. We ended up at Staples again, and wouldn't you know it? The speakers I had bought a mere 13 days earlier were on sale for the bizarre price of $142.13. I wasn't too bothered by it, but after a few minutes, I remembered that another retailer had a price protection policy, where if the item you purchase goes on sale within the following 30 days, they'll refund you the difference so long as you have the receipt. I took a shot in the dark and asked a sales rep about it, and he informed that yes, they do have a price guarantee, but theirs is only within 14 days. Fortunately my wife still had the receipt in her purse, and we were just barely within the time frame, so Staples refunded me $47.50 + tax!

It felt like free money!

*Despite what the name may imply to some people, the party isn't on a Saturday morning. Rather, the name comes from the theme of the party, which is cartoons from our childhood, i.e. Beast Wars, Reboot, Ninja Turtles, Transformers, Sailor Moon, Rainbow Brite, He-Man, etc.

I think this might depend on the store.

I assume you're referring to this promo? Amazing deal, but I was a little late to the party, I'm afraid. According to my local Future Shop, they're completely sold out of everything except Call of Duty, which is of no interest to me.

Well done, sir!

I wonder how many people traded in bullshit like Imagine Fashion Party for Assassin's Creed IV! The whole "any game" thing is pretty astonishing.

Being a sales consultant at Office Max and a previous one a Depot, most all store have this. Best buy is going as far as price matching any online retailer. It's getting to be a pretty competitive. Have to be with all the stores competing with each other.
