My buddy and i were talking about diablo 3 when it came out and we had discovered a pattern in our characters. Now when i played diablo the first one i played as the.rogue which was the ranged in it in d2 and d2:lod i played as a ranged amazon and d3 i play as a demon hunter who is ranged. Now with that said in other games i discovered something similar. In any elder scrolls games i always went with bows and in world of warcraft and the secret world i also went with a ranged choice. Im sorry if im rambling but in path of exile i started a ranger. Anyone else see a pattern? Can anyone else think of a pattern similar? Or hell even the same?

I personally always tend to healing classes where available, if done right healing can be more engaging than any other role

Everyone has preferred methods of engagement. I prefer hand to hand.

lightsabers, always go with the lightsabers.. but when playing a sith or a jedi is not a viable option. i tend to go with some form of ranged combat.

If you ever try the old republic mmo, and you like story stuff, you might want to try an "imperial agent" instead. But then the stories for the other classes will be such a letdown... :)

i'm sorry, bounty hunter class is epic too, i ofren travel with Agent so i know their story a bit, and i found the story of that class........ quite messy

I tend to go with the "Rogue" archetype when I play video games, simply because I like to sneak in and out, sometimes I like to assassinate and sometimes I like to get in and out without people knowing I'm there. I guess I prefer to work around my problems in games, rather than confront my enemies head on.

What makes it odd to me is that i dont actively choose the ranged classes with me it just kinda happens lol

If I can do some form of sneaking or sniping- the ranger/rogue/sniper/whatever.
If not- then the tank.
Never the mage. I hate having to manage mana and being rendered helpless when it runs out.

i play mages all the time, the trick is spell management, you have to know spell rotations, you dont want to spam spells that suck up mana if you dont need to use them. you just need to know what to use and when to use it :).

I always play the direct-damage magic class, if I can. Mage / Wizard / Sorcerer / etc... It's a conscious choice though, magic is just cooler looking and more fun.

Hmm, not really the same thing, but I like the sneaking around non-lethal type of character, assuming it's possible in the game. Want to grab all the loot without hurting anyone, or being noticed... The boss fights in Deus Ex: Human Revolution were such a disappointment. :(

I'm patterned on certain games. Like, Diablo I was Rogue, 2 I was Amazon, but with MMO games I'm more accustomed to mdps. SWTOR I was a Sith Marauder, WoW my main is a Death Knight. All depends on what games I'm playing and the feel of the characters.

I always play stealth based characters. (rogue in wow, thief in elder scrolls etc.) I like sneaking up on unsuspecting mofos and stab them to death....FOR EVEEEEER. and steal shit!

No such a pattern for me. Lineage II - up close assassin. TES - Warrior with some magic and lockpicking. DA - Mage. BF3 - every class with Medic being most often used.

Just play The Ship, cause you can sneak around, kill people, have no witnesses and can provide someone a chance to play a multi-player game? =)

The only pattern I think I have is: I always go with or create a female character if it's possible

I usually play as stealth or ranged character, but in RIFT I later respeced into rogue tank and in Amalur I play as Warrior-Mage hybrid

I tend to play support roles or slow, lumbering, nigh-invincible characters. Certain games force me outside of those roles, such as League of Legends when the only role that hasn't been taken is solo mid or the AD carry, and Guild Wars 2 which has no hard trinity (tank/heals/DPS) & every class is expected to do a fair amount of everything. Sometimes that's actually fun just for the change of pace, and especially when I do well, but unless it's a game I have a lot of practice at though, that usually ends badly because I've developed such a defensive mindset and thus miss out on a lot of opportunities when I could've gone in for the kill.

This will sound bad but as a male when i get bored id rather stare at the back of a female character as compared to a male and i know alot of guys that think the same

Not me. For me it depends on the game, although I generally play mages, in some games I go for healers or bow classes.
