i'm wondering because in august i'm thinking of opening some csgo cases with a friend but for some reason gaben blocked my "in-game" purchases and i can only buy at the steam market (where every single key is much more expensive) so it would be great that i could trade my wallet with and let my friend buy the keys for me
i already saw about the people that saw on trade offer i think and now i googled it and i found this, so it passed almost a year and still no money trades or is steam not sure yet? anyway do someone know about a date or something?

EDIT: i played arround with the code and here's what i found, clicky
on the javascript you can change the money amount, the country currency, etc BUT you can also notice that the this image that shows on that new "popup" is not on the javascript and it happened to me that when i changed the currency to euro (the correct one) it as go into portuguese (my current language) as you can see here

People transfer SteamWallet funds all the time. The only downside is 15% fee that Steam eats out of every transaction.

They will eat 10% when feature is available, still not cool, but maybe fair. But 10% is a lot.

i think there was a thread a couple months back by someone in this forum about this wallet function he found or something
something about the key currency collapsing due to steam wallet or something (my memory is all hazy :/)

here and yes, the tf2 keys are used as money/currency on trades so if steam add wallet trades they may get less worthy or maybe not
also from their screenshoots there was a 5% fee from steam that would be awesome

The worst thing is that n00bz will get desperate and will sell the keys very cheap at first, like what happened with the Dota 2 keys some weeks ago. I already sold 2/3 of my TF2 keys because I'm 100% sure that will happen when the wallet trade becomes available. In the long run, though, I think keys will get some of their value back (again, like what is happening to the Dota 2 keys). Nonetheless, it's better to sell the keys now, anyway.

yes THIS, i couldnt find this thread for you. sorry about that :P
in a way i do hope this function gets officially released this way its easier and cheaper for traders BUT im not sure if Valve will release this though, since they might not get the transaction Fee (unless...)

in the end, the decision is up to Gaben

Not convinced this is an actual feature coming, unless someone can link to an official announcement not some forum speculation or reddit thread. Doesn't really make sense, what with the marketplace and all. I'm guessing those "screenshots" were faked and now it's become a bit of an urban legend.

You can put the java script by yourself, and see it...

Have you broken down the code in the script? Entirely possible that the script is generating everything and not pulling it out of the Steam Clients code. People weren't able to enable any of the other features early Steam has released recently so it would be a shock to see them somehow let this into the wild early. Very unlike Valve.

No, wallet-trading-might-be-near-tf2-key-crash-coming, I was talking about this, you could see the wallet trade, but obviosly not trade. Look at the Reddit thread there.

That's what I was talking about. That window is clearly not part of the Steam client. There are lots of style discrepancies among other issues. This is either a troll or an attempt to get upvoted on reddit.

Try to use the javascript on your trade offer window, and confirm it.

Anaaannnd, we're back at the top of this chain. Who's to say the code isn't generating the window itself? The visual design of the window certainly doesn't match the current Steam client and their are some alignment errors that just make it look amateur and highly suspect. Besides, does running some random person's script, designed to supposedly un-hide that which isn't supposed to be seen, on your Steam client sound like a good idea?

i did it my self and this code only shows what is hiden because to do something like that you would need much more code, i tried only with the second line of the code as an bookmarked url and it showed the wrong ammount of money on my wallet and it was in dollars but that's because the person that got the code probably had that amount and currency

people trade tf2 keys all the time because they are being used as currency, but if steam adds an wallet trade system they can get some money for everytime someone trades (that's the main reason i guess) and it would be great for steam and the traders

They get money with the keys system because those keys had to come from somewhere (Valave). That also wouldn't remotely cover the lost sales from people loading up during sales and then undercutting Steam through out the year, with their own service none the less. Pile on top of that the potential legal issues (taxes, money laundering, ect.) and it seems pretty unlikely this becomes a feature anytime soon.

you are right, steam gets money from fees when there are sales and game events but for example most traders do not sell their keys, they just keep them to future trades and while they are stopped or being traded and not sold on the market steam is losing money, time is money right? :P

Time is not money in this case. It's true that if keys aren't used as intended they won't sell as many but that small % they skim on key sales and would potentially skim on wallet trades is small compared to revenue lost from people buying games at 75% off in a sale and then selling them for 50% off when they go back to full price.

that's another problem that steam should fix but if they did not region locked all the cheaper games yet is because they are getting more than expected

they would also open up sub-steam stores with people buying directly from russian sellers, which would NOT be great for valve, because it would seriously hurt their profits.

i think valve might have been trialing it as an internal test, but i would be surprised if it actually went public... killing off the tf2 key market and making buying games through foreign sellers even cheaper and easier is NOT in valves best interests.

i never said that the tf2 key market would die, i said that it will probably be less used as currency and about the russian traders that's always was steam's problem but they also know that many russian traders only buy games because they will sell it and any stats to make steam better then any other game protection software would be welcome i guess

i doubt this will ever happen. it would open steam up to criminal money laundering and just bad things in general.

Why do you want to do a trade like that... You have to pay 15% fee... So you kinda will be paying the same amount as in-game shop to your friend so they got their money back..

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

because looks like that will be only 5% fee because people trade all the time so it makes sense that is less fees (without saying that 5% is almost nothing compared to the market)
