Something about a password protection extension(?) I have seen people recommend.

People might suggest LastPass, but I prefer KeePass. Gives connivence of automatically generated passwords and more secure than browser extension/"cloud" providers holding all my passwords.

The cloud aspect helps a lot of you move around half a dozen computers regularly in two different cities like I do. And only one of them is a laptop.

Yeah, so put the KeePass database (encrypted) on some "cloud" provider to keep it in sync. Still much more secure than some browser extensions.

Can you explain more on generated passwords? Every time I log into an account (my Steam account for example), I type in a new password? Or Last Pass generates a password for me to use that I keep until I want to generate a new password?

It generates a password for you during the account creation process, which then is saved and used in the future.

Can I see my passwords on the LastPass mobile app if I don't want to carry my laptop with the LastPass extension? I assuming that I would use a public computer and not remember my passwords.

Yes, and you can also just login from anywhere via web to your LastPass account and access your stuff from there.
