It seems that the community has spoken and is happy with the current system, thank you all for your inputs. I will leave this open for another couple of days for people to enter the giveaway below, or if you have any additional comments

The current system is that any group giveaways would not count for your Steam Gifts level, unless 5 or more people enter the giveaway. That is to prevent cheating, and makes sense for private giveaways or giveaways for small groups of friends.

However, I am a member of some groups with around 50 members, where it is sometimes hard to get 5 entries for all giveaways. And I am probably not the only person running into that issue. So I would like to propose a different solution for groups.

If a giveaway is sent to at least 50 people (includes all group members or whitelist members that can participate), it should count, as long as at least one person enters the giveaway. So if the group has 55 members, and I create a giveaway, and only 2 people enter the giveaway, it should still count for Steam Gifts levelling purposes, as long as the winner marks as received.

What do you guys think? Do you think this is a good suggestion? Is there a better solution?

The giveaway as promised :)

What do you think should be the minimum number of group + whitelist members a giveaway is sent to so that it counts for levelling even if it gets less than 5 entries?

As a fail-safe you can always add your whitelist to the GAs aswell. If one of your giveaways doesnt seem to reach 5 entries you can start looking for people who want the game and add them to your whitelist so they can enter.

You would need thousands of dollars to get 50 alts. Steam gifts would not let you register a brand new account with no games in it. Also if someone wanted to cheat, it is way easier to make 5 alt accounts than 50.

I see how many people from SG have it on my friends list to determine if I need to add an extra group to be sure of 5+ entries. Plus always include whitelist.

The problem with this that it would be very easy to cheat. It's not that hard to find scammers unfortunately.

Hm, as you said, the 5 entries are there to prevent cheating.
Well, if the 5 entries matter so much, why not giving away a game that is wishlisted a lot within the group or doing it multi-groups?

Well, that's no problem, just need to make multi-groups giveaways and/or as suggested, include whitelist :)

yes, but this little low level leecher groups dont allow the multi grouping because of the more chances for the group leaders

It seems like a good idea, actually.

If a giveaway is open to more than 50 people, than even if only 1 enters it counts. It makes sense, and I don't see how it could be abused: as OP points out, you'd need 50 fake profiles, which is definitely more problematic than 5 fake profiles...
