On a less serious note: I was born on the 18th of July, like him. Now I've got only Vin Diesel left.

And my country just went tits up.

RIP Tata Madiba

I thought this would've been a troll post, he's "died" many times in the past, but now that it's actually happened, I'm kind of shocked. It's a pity that younger people will never get to meet him. If only our current government had an ounce of 'Mandela' in them...maybe our country wouldn't be falling apart.

He had problems with his health for a few years now. Mostly, it was a lung infection related to the fact that he contracted TB while he was in jail.

Have some respect
A man died. There's no politics about that. Next time, instead of swearing and making stupid comments, just close the browser and think a little before you type.

This means nothing to you, that's fine. But don't be a dick about it.

So you're telling me that ANYONE can post ANYTHING related to politics on this forum (which is dedicated to games!), and that would be fine? Oh, fine, let's wait for someone to post some good words about Adolf Hitler or Mao Zedong - hey, it's just politics! And both of 'em are dead too!

why? Nelson wouldn't want to be deified, he was a terrible person, he wanted people to know that. Its our media that made him mother Teresita because we can't handle good guys who aren't saints. if he was alive he'd be the first one to tell you he was a monster. Said tons of times that people should never forget the evil hes done and view him as perfect because they could start seeing his methods as perfect too
that sainthood thing is mostly on america. we like things nice and black and white, good guys are hero paladins(usually without the stick though) and opposing apartheid is good so we made him into the second coming of Ghandi...which he definitely was not.

I kinda liked this painting
This is art. Stare at the art.
seems like something I might hang on my wall, its definitely serviceable...specially considering he never got formal training. I like the composition, and the colors. Details are pretty sharp too but also has that washed out distance thing going without loosing sharpness. its got a sense of depth and feeling, mountains in the back feel far away and cold and misty, water in the foreground seems deep, the trees are nice and peaceful. I kinda want to know where that view was.

Hitler wasn't a bad artist.(Mao's poetry sucked though)

Also, do you realise how many people died today? And, what? Don't they deserve to be respected? They might have done great things during their life, but they were unlucky enough to not be shown on tv. And that's the main reason we don't see any threads about them, right?

There's a bit of a difference. There have been few people throughout history that have had such a positive effect on the course of humanity as Nelson Mandela.

those people didn't changed the world. They may changed but they didn't changed people's mind. This one did.

Ok, I admit it - I was trying to troll you. But now I'm serious. Mandela was a great guy who stopped that racist madness going on for decades in South Africa. He will be missed. And I'm sorry for what I said above - it was just plain stupid. Good day to you all (except this Ruaben guy).

I was trolling, I admit it, but you saying: "If you want to help the humanity, please, kill yourself." to me was way too much. You've lost it.

Maybe I've chose the wrong words. I said that in effect of your previous comments, not for just "why not?". Also I may had gone too far, but so do you.

If I made you feel bad I'm sorry. But you kinda made the same for me.
So, we're even now?

Umm...I'm pretty sure that all those quotes are legitimate. Living in SA, I've heard these quite a few times. If you buy his autobiography, Long Walk to Freedom, you'll see some of them in there as well.

*Except the first one in the article I just linked. Not sure what the writer was thinking.

This. Mandela was no saint, hell he was a terrorist for a while. But the good he did far outweighed the bad. Our country has been in a steady decline since he resigned. Many places in the world need another "Mandela".

he was a freedom fighter much as america's founding fathers were, its the perogative of victors in conflicts to not be terrorists anymore and he won, that aside he was by any measure a great president for south africa long after his prison sentence, he managed to make it a functional democracy or at least as functional as any democracy gets, the worlds a lesser place without him imo
