So... late with this thread, but hey... You are all Unloved anyway...

No point reading anything below...

Anyway... So last week on Tuesday my computer did not boot to Windows anymore... Troubleshooting really didn't figure much, in the end not memory, not the gpu, probably not the ssd... So mobo maybe...

Went to get new laptop was going to get one eventually anyway, but it is not really gaming one... But hey 3 months of "free" Xbox Game Pass Ultimate... Just 699€... Not bad right?

Also why on earth I only get 300Mbs Internet with Stem Dock if it doesn't have power plugged in? And why does it not stay stable if it is...

So next process spend couple hundreds on new mobo+cpu+ram... On AM5... Or try my luck with new mobo...

In the end new mobo was the one to pick up, at least I then could go with something like 5800X3D in future...

Now I kinda hate updating stuff, I always screw up some way... First what freaking screws do they use m.2 mounts? Dissemble half the board to get to different slot... Then the back case fan connector outside case between the mobo backplate... And then I plugged the CPU fan in wrong connector, so had to move it and it is tight fit with big cooler...

Oh well in the end working. So on Saturday got my desktop working again...

I dunno, i am handy with computers, i used to replace a lot myself, but i just let my new one pre built, and i would have no idea how to replace a motherboard/cpu or whatever when time comes.

no post or just not booting?

how old was your old board? Possible just dead cmos battery... but I feel the pain.

my last build that failed(mainboard or cmos battery... but it was old(7ish years old budget build with only GPU upgraded) as is so I didn't troubleshoot very far)... cost me... $1200, just got a new MB/CPU/GPU/RAM/PSU and upgraded a bit(also upgraded to M.2 SSD a year or so later as well)... no free game promos either(QQ).

half tempted to do a complete new build in 2025... new everything... fun part will be finding a case I like that has a slot for a Blu-Ray drive(yes I still use one in 2023)

No post, no windows... No signal. But the diagnostic lights did not complain about GPU... And with 3700X no iGPU, so was quite confiusing.

Few months over 4 years old and been running almost 24/7 so CMOS battery should not have been issue. The booting had always been bit weird when restarting...

not posting isn't fun to troubleshoot online(hell I hate in general indirect troubleshooting, to many possibilities).

its kinda fun in person though... but I guess when you do something for a job suddenly having no timer always makes it more enjoyable.

Have you looked at externals? Not sure how feasible those would be.

I had to retire ol' faithful a little while back and modernize. I ended up going with a Lancool 216 and it's hands down the best case I've ever worked with in terms of modular design and cable management. I wanted an air-cooled 'black out' build without all the bells and whistles though. Annoyingly, I did have to source dust filters separately and this was the main delay in the build because of shipping.

since I would go with a full tower I would rather not do an external drive for my Blu-Rays

my cooler master stormtrooper is just showing its age a bit to much... on the IO side, also want to change my setup to have my PC ON the desk instead of under(part so I can enjoy the RGB... part so the PC space heater will focus less on just the legs), will want a shiny case for that... its also heavy... very heavy... a new case prbly won't me much lighter because of tempered glass... but it probably will be.

I am not in need of an upgrade for a few years at least so I will have plenty of time to look at options.

That's fair. I'm not sure how well externals work either. I'd imagine it'd require a lot of firmware in one way or another.

I downsized from a full to mid because of weight and general bulk so I hear that. Not sure about showcase options as it was something I moved away from in the current build. If you're years away from upgrading there will likely be a number of new options by then anyways.

Hey, at least you have a working PC again. I've never much cared for the building process either. When it all works out of the box, great. When you need to spend hours troubleshooting because of any number of small or large issues, not so great. I've been tempted on a number of occasions to go with a prebuild or pay someone to slap parts together for me, but the markup is always insane. To be fair, the cost of parts in general the last few years has been insane too.

300Mbs Internet with Stem Dock

Over speed up?
Get these speeds on WiFi, this is using a USB-C ethernet adapter
πŸ€”
Lenovo...?Nightmare 😒I'm afraid of a lot of things.πŸ‘»
πŸ“πŸ“

I'm not sure what's going on with the laptop one, just a little bit of the overall parts configuration, but I hope it works good.πŸ™‚

Normally I get ~900 in speed test, but in this case it was only 300 over ethernet... So quite weak.
