I liked the older ones like IV, VI, VII and IX, but the boy band ones or futuristic ones never really caught me. XVI is the first since IX I'm hoping to play, hopefully they do good with it.

I played and finished all Final Fantasy from 1 till 7 when I was young.

I somehow lost interest in them after getting into cRPGs as I liked them more than jRPGs. Still I hope that when I will retire I will be able to 100% Final Fantasy from 8 to probably 50.

Yah, I played 8 and I did not enjoy it at all, the way the game works, levelling actually makes the game harder since they added a levelled mob system, which I did not enjoy as someone who always enjoyed the grind. Then to top it off, the kind of futuristic feel of it just took away my enjoyment, but that's personal choice. About the only thing I liked in 8 was the triple triad card game, I even got the cards special ordered from Japan back in the day cause of it. When 9 came out, I was relieved it kinda went back to the norm, more old school tbh, like FF4.

Once 10 came out, I spent a few days, and like 8, it just didn't sit well with me, so I abandoned FF. I personally just prefer the medieval and steampunk final fantasies. FF7 was an exception because it had more of a dystopian feel, while the others just feel modern or futuristic with nothing special. When it comes to futuristic, I was more into Star Ocean.

I'm really hoping 16 will be a return to form with it's medieval setting.

I understand you as I feel the same way.

I think Final Fantasy III was my favorite as you were finding crystals to get new jobs and you could mix jobs in a way that I was able to create nice multi-classes that were good both in melee damage and in magic and they felt more ready for anything and powerful than any other FF heroes.

I still remember having Knight/White mage, Dragoon/Black mage, Monk/Summoner and I don't remember the 4th hero probably something with a Thief.

The futuristic boys bands just don't work for me.

I found that to be such a cliche thing in a rpg go chase all 4 corners of the world/elements after having played the remasters (never played them when they came out, when you had an encounter like each step).
Not to even mention grindy with some steam versions having to get all jobs to level 99...

I like 7-10, 12 i found totally different and dunno if it had loading times on the ps2, but just didn't finish it, but then a friend gave it to me on steam and i had dozens of hours in it, you just had to learn to appreciate it (and that friend said the same).

I am a big ff fan, but i just sort of grinded in ff15 for 1 whole day in the first town and that was about it, it indeed didn't felt like a ff game, also did not like the combat, and that's what i fear for 16. I think the setting would be right though with it's medieval.

I also don't like the new FF7 remake, unnecessary, and it just feels different.

Yeah maybe it is cliche but I liked it as a kid. Each tower that you had to climb and each elemental stone you touched really feel like you are making great progress in the game and helping the world.

Yeah the FF7 remake that is cut into parts feel like a fast nostalgia cash grab and I hope to get it one day for free somewhere only as I don't want to pay for it but I would like to finish FF7 and this remake one after the other to compare them for review purposes. But I guess we need to wait next 5 years or more for FF7 remake to be completed.

One day I would probably have to finish all FF games one after the other to review them all but since many of them will get remakes I can wait before getting the old ones and the new ones. I will wait for the moment when they will milk all they can from this franchise and will move to making FF25 or something like that and will leave old ones alone.

Honestly outside of cutscenes this trailer looks like generic Chinese/Korean MMO crap.

The way the amount of ps5 are being sold it's doubtful any game stays PS5 exclusive, big chance it will come to the epic store, square loves it, if it comes to Steam (soon) remains a guess (look at Kingdom Hearts/ Strangers of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin).

Looks impressive, and I'll probably enjoy it whenever it's free on PS+ half a decade from now, but the appeal of JRPGs for me is usually to get to know and play as an entire ensemble cast. 15 paring things down to just three dudes on the road was a shift I wasn't too down with, and this also looks like it has one foot planted on character action-y territory, which generally doesn't pique my interest. Still, even though it's not my cup of tea, I've heard enough people whose video game opinions I trust rave about the director that I'm hopeful the final product will be really good.

... Please just give me FF8-R, though. Wanna enlist in a 4D Balamb Garden.

At least all the ost are fantastic. <3
So very many good tracks throught the FF franchise.

FF7R added far too much bloat to the game. It took far FAR too long to leave midgar.
They wasted time and effort adding summons and sidequests/content (you get first summons OUTSIDE midar in FF7 btw).
And they couldn't even bother to add RED-xiii as a playable character.
Really, the pacing and prolonged 'playtime/busywork' ruined it for me.

Have to say I'm rather underwhelmed.

I'm not the target audience though. Played VII years after it released (amazing game, well deserving of it's praise), and then VIII after that (good game except for everything leveling up with you, making leveling up almost entirely pointless), and then stopped. But I was a PC gamer, and more a fan of "C"RPGs, or "A"RPGs than "J". I've also started XV, and will continue it someday -- it was surprisingly good starting out.

This trailer though, feels like they threw out a lot of the Final Fantasy style (which I would say I am a fan of -- the series has an excellent aesthetic and really fun character designs). Most of the backgrounds here look like they saw that Dark Souls was a popular game and copied that dreary style. The action sequences and summon designs feel downright Michael Bay levels of useless over-indulgent monochromatic detail and flashiness.

And if it weren't for having played a bit of XV, I would wonder why the gameplay looked a lot more Devil May Cry action style than traditional JRPG style. (And younger CRPG/ARPG me would like that.)

My complaints about the trailer are mostly skin deep though. Will wait to reserve true judgment until I hear how the story and final gameplay are received after release.

Also, I do think it's interesting to put a little more story(?) focus on the summons, though I don't know how that will tie into the greater Final Fantasy mythos.

The first trailer made me very worried... it seemed like a very forgetable sub-medicore game made by some small indie-team that was aiming too high for their own good.

This new trailer still doesn´t induce the familiar "New FF"-hype I usually get, but it does seem like an interesting game and gives me hope. I also like some of the FF Tactics vibes with the elites looking down on the people like cattle and all.

I somehow feel like the battle-gameplay scenes look very cheap, but can´t really pinpoint why... but in the end, thats nothing that would deter me from the game, if there is a good story to enjoy.

I will certainly play it and give it a fair chance, no matter how future trailers might influence my expectations.

What I´d really love to see though would be an HD-2D remake of FF6 and for Square to hire this guy for a true FF8 remaster.
