GOG has that feature in their profiles, haven't noticed it in any of the other platforms. Steam is paying attention to them, it seems.

Well, it's pointless when so many "friends" idle their games.

this obviously depends on "composition" of our friends list at Steam... and at first look it seemed uninteresting but, i'm kinda changing my mind...

If I want to know what my friends are playing generally I check https://store.steampowered.com/recommended/friendactivity/, no need for anything else.

As long as your friends write reviews on the games... In my case there's a few but mostly uninteresting games for me.

i like my friends list, and pretty much always treated as an actual list (mostly for wishlists). it may happen i do some chat and make new friends, but i like mixing all the things you see around here, so no problem for a few collectors, idlers and such, but also "niche" tastes, peeps that like visual novels (!!!) and all the stuff i think i'd never play...

that said

best recommendations you might find, imo, thou, are still here around :D

I'm not saying I need the feature though...

I seem to play quite a few games rarely anyone else does, so I am guessing my tate in games is bad.

Doesn't look very useful or then I should get better friends.

Hahaha, I wondered how many friends you might have for such numbers. But you "only" have 312, compared to my 130. Yet my friends only got 40h into CSGO. Winning game in the recent two weeks was DayZ, thanks to NYNTHS investing magical 298h.

It certainly isn't a perfect system but imho it offers better information than anything else we got.

LOL! The top 4 there. Seems like someone is artificially boosting their gaming hours if they have that many in 2 weeks and just one person. XD That or they play it non-stop.

that's TOTAL time, not just the 2 weeks period.

Nope. "Last 2 weeks" is highlighted. Check your own and you'll see. Your friends collectively probably have 1000s of hours on some games under "lifetime" :P

There are two tabs there.

lol no! is just that it looks like a few friends lists need an update, a purge, a refurbishment. a something.

Didn't know that one existed. Thanks.

It's nice to have that in the case of multiplayer games to see who's playing them recently. =)

Yep, I dont usually use that either. If I'm interested in a game and I wanted to know my friend's activity for it, there's already an option to view the friend's stat on the Store Page already. Seems like Steam is doing quite a number of redundant things like recommending games monthly When! They created Curator pages . . . Also not letting me ignore "Publishers","Dev Teams" XD

I hope they update the settings soon and let me hide it :/
All the idlers are ruining stuff like this

Oh, Curators and Streamers aren't?

Sure, the Curator system gets abused pretty heavily but that doesn't affect me very much, since I only follow a handful of curators and I like what they post :3
I don't see much stuff from Streamers, except the occasional "WATCH MY STREAM!!!!"-begging when I join a new group, but if that happens multiple times, I will just leave the group again.

So in the end the Idlers are the most annoying to me...the steam notifications are a nuisance, but most important for me is that I have a hard time figuring out if someone really plays their games, because all their history is full of idled games :/
And I need to know that if I'm thinking about whitelisting someone .3

yeah, I do feel sorry for gamers with big libraries who's only games they seem to have actual gametime are clickers...
Nah, I've been having fun attacking my backlog the last few years :)

What do you mean by "idler" ?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

People who use software to make steam think that they are playing a game, just to farm cards.
Most of their steam games will have a playtime of around 3-6 hours, but they won't have any achievements and probably never even openend the game.
At the moment my activity feed is full of notifications that somebody has started playing a game, but in fact probably 80% of those are just people farming cards :/
So this new info is basically useless if you have idlers/cardfarmers in your friendlist :(

In my opinion, nice but slightly useless.

I tend to look at activity a lot and I dont really bother looking at anything short like that but guess its interesting? If you really wanted to know to know what games your friends are playing for the 1st time
