So, after weeks of entering Overture giveaways, I ended up winning two copies within 24 hours. I requested for SharpEyez to reroll the second copy (http://www.steamgifts.com/go/comment/eC6O2xr), but I think it's gotten lost in the hundreds of comments he must receive. What should I do now? I don't want to risk getting banned by accepting two copies of the same game or something. Is there a way for me to somehow request a reroll for someone else's giveaway that I've won?

EDIT: The linked Steam profile is set to private, so I don't see another way for me to contact them.

EDIT 2: Nevermind, I'm an idiot. I wasn't logged in to Steam from my browser! I sent him a friend request on Steam, so hopefully he accepts so I can explain the situation.

Of course, but would you believe someone asking for a re-roll that he didn't use extra key? And by this would you let someone winning from a re-roll get invalid key? I think it would be nice if there were a key feature like on indiegala, where you have to click the button to get key.

Yes, let's say that his spy mom sees that and later uses it making some troubles for her son. Don't make me the bad guy, if there were a feature where you have to click button in case to receive key, let's say you cannot click on two buttons for the same game, so you cannot see 2 keys and you have to ask for a re-roll.

The solution is the following:

  1. You won twice, you got 2 keys,
  2. You redeem one
  3. And request a reroll for second, that's all.

Giving the second key to friend or something like that will get the person suspended.

Totally right, but lets suppose that someone sent another key to friend and still asked for a re-roll, then winner of re-roll gets invalid key and makes GA creator feedback worse by including 1 non received. As I said, I'm not looking for enemies, I don't want to be the bad guy, and I think it wouldn't be hard for mods to include just a little clicky in case to get the key. Simple :)
and sorry then, I'm editing those wrong advices :)

if he sent a key to his friend and then asked a re roll for a used key, he is a jerk. Even better if he kept it in silence without asking for reroll if he gave second key to a friend, in that case he makes trouble only for himself, and not for other ppl.

edit: I understand what you are saying, but what you say is in case something bad happens, in OP case nothing bad happened, he didn't give second key to his friend, so he can ask for a reroll without problems.

How is he being ultra lucky unfair. He has to mark both as received, because that would be a lie if he marked as not received. He also activates one key on acc so he can't be suspended for non activating. GA creator cannot be sure if he used the second key, so if he re-rolled he could give someone invalid key, and that would be unfair, if someone won used key.

It doesn't, it would simply help the giveaway creator know if it's perfectly safe to reroll or if there's a chance the key might have been used (that feature is only useful if the creator is aware if the key has been revealed or not)

I'm not sure they can reroll if no ticket to request new winner ticket has been created for the giveaway, and only the giveaway creator can do that

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Isn't more reasonable that winner can request the reroll more easily , since it proves in itself that he don't want the game?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Maybe, but that's not how it works currently.
You can only create a "Request a new winner" ticket for one of your own giveaway. So if I'm correct in saying that support can reroll only if a ticket in that category has been created (I'm making this assumption based on the fact.that support can give you more slots only if you create a ticket in the category ""Increase giveaway limit"), then there is no way the winner of a giveaway can get it rerolled.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I see. Still, it would be so much easier if winner could ask himself for reroll. Are there any downsides for that other than system not allowing it currently.?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You could use the key then request a reroll to mess with the creator (I know how stupid it sounds but I'm sure there will be some people doing that). So it would be possible only if a feature to "click to reveal the key" would be implemented too like it was already suggested in this discussion. Other than that, I don't see any other issue right now.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I had an issue with one guy winning 2 copies of the same game from me. He demanded I give him 2 copies, I asked for a reroll, the reroll request got lost and he marked as unreceived. People should be more careful with this type of crap.

But did you make copy GA's, or key? With copy GA's it's totally different story.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I had 5 copies of the game, made 3 different giveaways and he won 2 of them. It's against the rules to win the same game twice...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes, but keys are automatically sent to winner, and copies not. I mean, let's say you make 2 GA's for 50 copies (like most of those Overture GA's) and someone wins both. He has to ask for a re-roll, but you cannot trust him that he didn't send one key to someone else. That's the problem, I don't think it is good right now, but you just don't want to deliver someone invalid key after a re-roll.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Keys aren't actually automatically sent, the giveaway creator actually has to click 'send key' to have the key be shown to the winner. Still doesn't help the fact that you can't see wins of the same person that haven't been marked as recieved (just won). You just have to rely on trust at that point since there's no way to check if a key is still valid.
But it also can't be helped when people win 2 giveaways of the same game in between checking SG.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Oh, sorry then, I thought they were sent automatically, but as you said later, GA creator doesn't see if it's the same person. Just a little feature could help with that - let's say you cannot click on two buttons for the same game so all you can do is ask for a re-roll. I think it's not that hard for mods tho :)

That would be a great idea, but the problem is the mods seem to have fewer powers than we would like to think. There are a lot of things they CAN do, re-rolls and the like, but there's also a few things we seem to think they can do but they actually can't.
You've also got to remember support get a LOT of requests so it can take a bit of time to get to some of the more complicated issues. Also I'm not entirely sure if/how a winner can ask for a re-roll. I believe they can, but it may take a bit longer to get to since generally the creator can do it fairly directly via the giveaway and the winner may have to create a ticket so it might be routed to support a bit differently. I'm not sure, I've only won a couple of games and never had to look into the option.
Also something like that may take time and a lot of work to program into the system. I know a lot of the time we all think 'oh this will be easy to program!' but it's actually not. It would be a brilliant idea if it were possible though, perhaps make a post in the suggestions discussions.

That's true, every new feature can also make few more problems. In this case, GA creators could probably abuse winners by not sending key or something, who knows :P But hey, Rome was not built immediately.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Very true! Also could run into the problem where possibly the first key was invalid and the first giveaway creator can't provide another, and you then can't access the 2nd key. Of course if you had marked the first as not received that would unlock the ability to view the 2nd key, but you could then cheat the system by lying, (which can happen now anyway I suppose) and saying you didn't receive the first key when you did and be able to claim both. It could have it's issues, but definitely suggest it in the sugesstion threads!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Exactly, even though we try to avoid cheating, sometimes we still have to trust others, but trusting is very hard nowadays. Of course some fancy would be appreciated, maybe someone could find a perfect solution, who knows, who knows... :P

Whoa, 6lvl wanted both wins? WTF.

Either bump reroll ticket, or make new one if old one is closed.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It sometimes can't be helped though.
Most people can't be on SG (or any site) 24/7 to check for wins and remove any entries for the won game. Example:
Enter two giveaways for the same game, both end within a couple of hours of eachother, you happen to win both but don't know it since you're at work/school/sleeping/whatever so once the first one was won you weren't able to remove all entries for the other. So it's not your fault if you win both.
It is however against the rules to claim both as recieved since you'd have to regift or give to a friend therefore not activating one of the copies on your account. The only thing to do in that situation is request a re-roll. Do everything you can to contact the giveaway creator and if you can't then attempt to contact support.

Permalink

I suppose that is one of the down sides of giving away more then one copy but damn what are the odds lol,i have won from the same user but different games.

Though if i was to ever do more then one ga of a game i would do one at a time, and then black list the previous winner so they can not enter the next one, then when that is done take them off the list.Or give them all away on one GA.

This is me assuming by what you said they entered two separate GA' of the game from you. This would avoid anyone winning your game twice.

I won two copies of a game that you had to have downloaded the free version of to be able to enter. I was happy to win one but regifted the second one here just to make sure someone else got it.

It seems that this isn't a cool thing to do as points are awarded for gifting and regifting is seen as stealing those points rather than just sharing a game.

Listen to other people here and don't regift, it might take time but it seems to be a big no-no and might go against you just with people looking at your won/gifted stats.

I hope a one off like mine doesn't go against you for the rest of your days here but just be aware that it is a genuine slight against the community to regift.

I hoe it all works out for you!

Some people are giving you terrible advice. :( As you guessed, you can't take two copies of a game. You can't give one to a friend, you can't make your own giveaway for it, add it to a secret second account, etc. :)

The usual procedure is one of the giveaway creators requests a re-roll, and in my experience those specific support requests are handled quite quickly. It sounds like in your specific case one of the giveaway creators gives away a huge amount of games, so you may have better luck contacting them elsewhere - once you get 99+ messages things get overlooked... :(

Anyway, don't mark both received, and don't use both keys. :) Try to get a reroll for the key you didn't use. Good luck! :)

That would be breaking the rules and getting him on blacklists and suspended. I also believe even suggesting people do this can get you suspended, if not it should be in the rules that it should not happen.

Seeing as how you have only been a grand total of 2 hours, you better read the FAQ and guidelines before you get suspended and/or perma banned.

Ignore the idiots saying give the second copy away. That will just end with you getting suspended and blacklisted by many people.

Put one on your account, mark it received. Then contact the giveaway maker of the other one. Ask them to do a reroll and tell them the reason why. You can also contact support and tell them what happened, no need to beg for forgiveness as you didn't do anything wrong, you just happened to win 2 at the same time, its happened to me too.

As long as you don't use the second key you won or send it to anyone you're gonna be fine, again like I said it happens.
