You should try tekken. the learning curve is pretty steep at higher ranks but anyone can play the game at beginners level. combo is also not a major factor.. of course combo is a major factor, who am I kidding! But what I'm saying is..you can play the game in any approach you want. there's always a character that will fit your style. you can be a poke type if that's your thing, grappler, juggle combo, high damage, anything, you just need to pick the right character for you. the community is also huge.
I came from KOF series myself but I did not like the art of kof14(I just like artistic games) so I switched to tekken and my perspectives in fighting games has changed for good. I think tekken is not comparable to any FGs out there, it is unique. there's so much to keep in mind and the possibility is wide. you can't be helpless if you have the match-up knowledge.
as for the Arcade stick. I use Hori v4 for ps4. I like my madcats fightstick pro but I have to get used to a stick with ps4 support because I play out with friends sometimes.

Oh I'm a big fan of Tekken and was pretty decent at it. The last one I played was either 3 or 4 on the PS2. I definitely want to get it but I'm going to have to wait till it's either in a bundle or really cheap. The game looks freakin awesome.
I picked up KOF XIII in the Fanatical Kingslayer bundle a couple months ago and haven't checked it out yet. I haven't played a game from that franchise since the first or second one I believe. XIV looks great.

That's nice! base price now is significantly low as well. it's a good game. better than I expect it to be. mechanics are just addicting.
KofXIII was my all time favorite fighting game, until tekken 7 got released on steam. I find it more fun than sf because of the combo potential. just a personal preference.
Yes, I have heard of the brand. also the news that comes after being used for good amount of time. when they break, it's hard to have it repaired. but I guess with proper care, it can be a good starting stick. still far better than Dobe though.

I believe the last fighting games where I actually knew what I was doing were Soul Blade or Darkstalkers on PS1. Since then I have mostly been button mashing (although that isn't to say it hasn't been fun).

Darkstalkers was one of my favorite arcade fighters!! :) I'd love to see a new Darkstalkers game. I liked Soul Blade but I wasn't that into it, I did enjoy Soul Edge, Soulcalibur 1 and Soulcalibur 2 though. I never played anything after part 2.

I've been trying to come up with a good title for the thread. I just changed now. I think it's better than what it was before but I'm not exactly sold on it. I'll probably rename it again when I think of something I really like.
Injustice looks good. I enjoyed the story in the part 1, I'm hoping part 2 will have an even better one.

I just wanted to take a moment and mention that I will be closing this thread down in a month or so(definitely after MK 11 launches) and recreating it to be focused on 2D fighting games. Of course it will include a new poll with some of the suggestions made on this thread like the Dead or Alive franchise and Skullgirls.
The next 2 well known franchises getting releases are Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid in early April and Mortal Kombat which launches on April 23rd.
Fantasy Strike is not your typical 2D Fighter. The game is designed to bring in people who aren't that familiar or intimidated by fighting games to the genre. The game was featured at EVO and people loved it. It's definitely worth looking at the video to understand what I mean. I may add this to the new poll..

The next AAA release after MK 11 that I'm aware of is Samurai Showdown (Samurai Spirits) which is coming sometime in Summer. I won't be adding it to the new poll due to it being release long after the new thread will be created.

We're about a month away from the MK 11 launch and from all the footage I've seen the game looks really good.
IG has a sale for MKXL right now for only $7.49. Not the lowest price ever but definitely a really good price for the game. They also have Injustice 2 for $19.99. It was $16.99 but it literally just changed as I was typing..
They also have the Legendary Edition for $23.99.

I used to play fighting games all the time on console as well as in the arcade and I was pretty decent at them. Recently I've gotten into the genre again and ended up acquiring a few titles: Mortal Kombat Complete Kollection, Mortal Kombat XL, Ultra Street Fighter IV, Street Fighter V, and Injustice: Gods Among Us. My skills are definitely lacking and I need a lot more practice.
No one is online to play for MK 9, Ultra Street Fighter IV or Injustice so I mainly play SFV and MKXL online. I'm no where near good but Street Fighter V I will say I am definitely getting better at.
