+1, I got an iPod 1g for $50, and the PSP cost $100

Pros

  1. Even the iPod 1g has much more processing power than PSP
  2. Touchsceen

Con

  1. Short battery life
  2. Boring games

Angry you can just download an emulator on your phone and boom you can have tons if games from multiple consoles and handhelds.

There's nothing to play on a smartphone tho.

Absolutely. Smart Phone gaming is still mostly crap compared to the PSP. I use mine everday for PSP games, PS1 games, and others. Also movies, and other things a smart phone can do (provided you have wifi nearby).

The clincher - it has a dpad, andalog stick and buttons.... and is cheap these days.

It will probably get cheaper now.

You know PS Vita slim + PS Vita TV is coming. It is good enough reason to make it cheaper.

EDIT: +Slim is made to be cheaper itself. Kinda worse screen, worse plastic... but better battery + HDMI port to connect to TV

I'm not sure... but can you play PSX games on Vita?

But still PSP slim is not bad choice... if you don't have too much money than sure buy it. But 8-12 h ... probably it won't last that much...

PSP is a ton better for the price, plus the UMD games you can get used (which are the media the PSP accepts for games) are not accepted by the Vita due to a lack of backwards compatibility.

Not too many systems will last 8-12 hours on a charge though, the DS Lite might on good day . . . . .

You're from Croatia, right? How's Nintendo in Croatia? Here in Poland it's basically nonexistent, so either you buy the games on forums/auction sites, or you just import them. Having a few nearby game stores that have lots of cheap PSP games might be another deciding factor.

Of course, DS is a great handheld as well and both are worth your attention. :-)

Better buy a Razer Edge gaming tablet XD...no, joke, PSP is an old thing you can play it even on Android, PSP is not bad, but on Android you can play a lot more stuff that just only PSP, you can play PS1, NDS, etc.

I've had mine for a while. It's really good for long trips and there are some good games on it. If you like ARPG games you gotta check out the Brotherhood of the Blade games. The first is really cool but the second is even better. They aren't connected to each other in anyway so it doesn't matter which one you get first.

The first game is more of a fantasy game. There is this huge city which has been guarded for centuries. There is always a champion who must defend the city. Only thing is the city is never in danger so normally the champion sits around and drinking rum for free. Only thing is that shit goes down the day after you become the champion so you can't do that.

The second one is much better in my opinion. The first starts you out with protecting the royal family while in the second you're kinda trying to kill them. It's kinda steampunk in a way where you have magic and swords and guns/cannons. The game has a much better story to it. The old king has been killed by his brother and with his brother in control of the kingdom everything is bad. You must take the true king/prince to do battle with the evil king all while having the support of an entire rebel army. The game is really fun and you should try it out.

I know you can pick these games up for real cheap. They're a bit on the older side but they're still a shit ton of fun. In fact you've gotten me in the mood to play them again so most likely I'll be popping them back in my PSP and giving them a go.

Yes.
Buy it, buy a SD card adapter. Put CFW on it and buy a 32gb card. Then you can rip your UMD games to your SD card and you will not have to care about bringing a crapload of UMDs around.

Also buy a third party battery if you want it to last around your mentioned 8-12 hours.

PS Vita isn't acually better and it's more expensive than PS Vita. 3DS (or DS) is a good console, but only for peapole that like Nintendo-style games. I'm actually thinking on selling PSV and buing PSP. Really.

Battery surely won't last that long, sadly.

It's a great handheld, though. With great games. On the other hand, lots of them are Japanese and some people don't like Japanese games (but that applies to any handheld).
Games are mostly dirt cheap nowadays, the console itself shouldn't be that expensive either. You can put CFW on it and rip games to memcard for further battery saving (since the UMD drive won't be used).

For games, maybe search on NeoGAF and read it (the lists are pretty good, if you ask me). It's a recurring theme, especially with people buying Vita without having the PSP and wanting to know what they've missed from the previous generation. I think there should be a big PSP Appreciation Thread anyway. (of course I could drop some titles as well)
And that's not even counting PSX emulation.

Of course, playing on bus is a factor as well. If you are OK with it (some people don't feel well staring down at a small screen during bus rides. Of course there is the factor of the bus shaking etc.), then good. If not... you get a nice system with great games anyway.

Oh and BTW, if you get CFW be sure to check out at least Powder and Wagic: The Homebrew. The port of OpenTyrian and some Touhou fangame (I think it was called Touhou Imitation Style or something) are nice as well.

I don't know much about the PSP or PSVita but I had looked into the games there are for it and it doesn't seem like they have a large selection at all, unless I'm wrong. There were a rare few games that actually looked good in my opinion. I'd consider a 3DS (or DS even, if you want to save money). Although there's not currently many games out now that look good for it to me, there will be and it's still compatible to play DS games.
