The only extra thing is a .05-.20 card for each badge depending on when you sell it ^^

It's better to wait for the Summer or Christmas events to craft ya badges as you'll get cards instead of coupons which you can either sell or craft for the extra badges. I used to sell the cards and get some games with the profits. :D

I'm holding on my badges as well, to be crafted if not on summer sale maybe on winter sale.

The only thing I learnt from Steam for the last 3 years was "wait for sales to craft badges". I wasted my first 20 level not knowing this.

Yes, for the last 2 years, you get an event card for each badge you craft during major sales (Summer and Winter).

Instead of a Coupon, which you pretty much never use, you'll get a Event Card which you can sell or make a badge with.

The cards also expire on the end of the event, so better use or sell them before they expire!

Someone doesn't wait for sales? Well some people don't seem to because there are boosters dropping all around the year. :)

Sorry for being an idiot, can someone ELI5 to me what can I gain by crafting badges, except steam experience? Is there any money to be made from this in the summer sales?

Well it really depends on what crafting a badge during a sale yields. For example one sale whenever you crafted a complete "sale" set you would get a random cosmetic item from a free to play game. Since some of these cosmetics were from very popular games like TF2 and Dota 2 the cards required to craft them spiked in price. More recently though there really hasn't been any incentive to craft said "sale" sets, it's best to just wait and find out. You get sale set cards by crafting any normal card set and by doing tasks such as voting for flash deals or by simply checking in each day during sale times.

Odds of making money now are extremely low, since everybody saves their sets for sales now. If you have card sets ready to craft now it's best to wait to find out but don't go out of your way (and pocket) to buy up tons of sets to craft, I actually did that last Winter and it didn't pan out.

So in short I don't sell anymore of the trading cards that I farmed from Idlemaster and wait to see if the summer sale states that crafting badges gives extra bonuses?

Hello again, and sorry for being such a noob. I want to have enough money to buy Civilization Vi at launch in October of this year, and I can only get money in my steam wallet through the Steam Market buy selling stuff. So my question is, should I just sell all the trading cards/booster packs that I can get and collect 60$, or is there some feature this year in the Summer sales that will make things easier for me and make me gain more money (crafting badges, etc....) ? Will crafting badges give me extra trading cards? And is this method good for making more money? Thanks and sorry for bothering you....

There isn't any special event this year unfortunately, if you want a game you should sell all your cards and stuff now :(

Yes. I don't know how many sets I have ready to craft, but at least 95 unique ones from first badge page alone.

I was never that much into cards bussiness, I don't expect massive donations from people either, it's still virtual PayToWin game, and honestly I prefer playing latest AAA game rather than bumping my steam level by 2 or 3.

Archi, how did the STM bot end up with a 5 day cool down?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

By changing e-mail. I had to change e-mail to some recent one in order to avoid potential lockdown and completely forgot that it will force trade cooldown for 5 days.

Shit happens, now I keep that in mind. ArchiBoT will return in a bit more than 24 hours since now :3.

Cool, glad it was something simple like that and not Volvo shutting you down. Thanks for all the hard work :)

If I didn't forget about that the moment I was clicking the button, I'd at least prepare for that by announcement and maintenance period. But don't worry, ArchiBoT is fine, it's just Volvo being Volvo :3. Bot is temporarily delisted on STM + has proper note on his profile, but that's temporary for a bit more than 24 hours. I'm sure he'll help many other people really soon.

Yes, you should wait. I actually just found out recently that you get extras for crafting during the sales... right after I crafted two badges, of course .-. haha. Don't make the same mistake I did q:

There's absolutely no point in not waiting at the moment. I could understand if it was like February and you had to wait 4 months, but we're literally weeks away from the sale so it'd take a special amount of impatience to throw all that away on a whim :P
In other words, if you didn't want to wait, you should have crafted them long ago - now that we are so close, you really should just wait.

I think the main disadvantage to keeping hundreds/thousands of trading cards for six months is the delay every time you need to look in your inventory... Making a trade offer to someone, responding to someone else's trade offer, looking for emoticons, etc. Every time you hit that page you'll want it all to disappear... :)

That's why it's better to make another account to store all the full sets in. :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Hmm, never thought of doing that, sounds like a good plan... :)

Although, with all these recent trading changes I'd be afraid of making a mistake somewhere and having the cards trapped on the other account for the duration of the sale... :)

Plenty of time left if you make it now. You can add it under the same phone number and should only take the 7 day wait for no 15 day tradeban from doing that to be fully usable. Longest ban they have is the 30 days after first store purchase to use the market, but that's not needed for this. :)

Knowing Valve, sending that many cards in a trade would set off some automated protection against hacking, and my real account would get locked instead... :) And to unlock it I'd have to send a picture of a game I bought in 2003... :)

Guess I'm just not brave enough to try that idea so close to the sale, will take another look after it ends, though... :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No it doesn't and you never send thousands in one trade anyways but max couple hundred per trade. Not because it raises red flags, but because accepting a huge offer breaks Steam for ages since their little gnomes move each card one by one. It's already been done by many people so there really isn't any risk. :)

I'd say wait. Always wait for a major sales because there's always an event associated with badge crafting. During normal days you can only get coupons while crafting badges during a major sale usually gets you a holiday-themed card which you can sell for some decent profit (or at least cover some funds that you used in buying cards in the first place)
