In the case you want to do this because you're planning to buy a game and want to play with your friends immediatly after you do - you can ask one of your friends to give you their backup of the game(In steam client, top left menu: Steam->Backup and restore games); When you purchase it,you can restore it from his backup file and you'll most likely have your download size drastically reduced.
Oh,and happy cake day :)

Thanks guys. Unfortunately i don't know anyone who can physically give me the backup and the upload rates here are too slow to let someone send it to me.
Just out of curiosity, in general, is it legal to share the backups you make with the client? For example, can you maintain a website dedicated to the sharing of steam games backups?

Hi, is there any way to download the game in steam (or even only the backup files outside of steam) before owning the game? (kinda like when you play a free week end game and after the free time you still have the files)
What I want is let's say something like a preload of the game. I'm gonna buy a certain game but not right now and after I bought it I just wanna start playing, without having to wait for the download to complete.
