You're indeed way off. Brute force is not needed, and there are actually multiple hints in the puzzle, as short as it is. I'll add more hints if I see that this is too difficult.

Update #3: "FREE DLC for The Land of Eyas" is no longer free, but as a last of its kind it will get you really close to the solution. Note that you don't need to buy this DLC.

Solution: "Is it locked, unlocked, or somewhere in between?" - The answer is in between and refers to a thread without a title, where I hid the link to the giveaway. I then closed (locked) it, which moved it to page 437 of the forum. This is right where the open threads end and the locked/closed threads start. In the days that passed additional threads were created, and some were locked/closed, so this thread moved to page 438 of the forum. Here's a screenshot I took after creating it:

I stopped there. I'm pretty sure that had I updated it to "Page 438" there would have been quite a bit more solvers than three.
