The other thread is miscategorized (even if this somehow didn't classify as a "Deal" [and the assumption that it's time-based would suggest it should be] it certainly wouldn't be "Off-Topic" to SG, Steam, and/or PC Games, which are the key associations of the "General" category), while this thread lacks information. Neither one can really be said to have a priority over the other, until one of them corrects the given shortcoming. Based in past precedence, time-based priority only exists on SG when both those elements are already present in a given thread (in other words, a more developed thread can supplant a previous one, if the additional developments are considered substantial or convenient enough).

In other words, you may want to consider formatting your comment so it sounds a bit less declarative (which makes it seem like the OP is doing something wrong), and you may want to consider commenting a correction request on the other thread as well, if the aim is to set that thread as the definitive one. At present, by my own considerations- that is to say, as someone who checks Deals thrice daily and General thrice weekly- I'd actually consider this thread to be the more useful one of the two.

Unless it has changed, I believe the approach was to log in to community, go to https://store.steampowered.com/account/licenses/ in your browser, then open console (usually F12, then tab to Console over at the top), and finally copy-paste in
jQuery.post('//store.steampowered.com/checkout/addfreelicense', {action:'add_to_cart',sessionid:g_sessionID,subid:1253880})
and hit enter.

Since MeeMesmo's approach seems simpler, could give that a try if their approach doesn't work out.

I can confirm it doesn't work. Cool Devs are the best.. more likely to buy a game from them. Otherwise it was in an indiegala bundle a couple weeks ago, you may be able to find a cheap leftover key from a group buy
