Seriously, they didn't even change the basic structure.

Thats the site where you only get points to enter if you give.... :-D

I made an account and I had 344,545 points to start with. That's like 350ish entries before I would have to give anything. Between the shitty site design and general sluggishness of using it, I think I'll keep giving things away here instead.

That's not 350 entries... people price the giveaways however they want so they could all be 50000 point giveaways

True (and that is also an idiotic way of doing things) but everything I saw was 1k or less in general. Also, it allows you to enter into giveaways for games you already have, which is shitty.

I did actually, it gives you a bit of points once you drop to 0 but not nearly enough to enter most giveaways from what I gather :-P.

Basically, it's just Indie Gala being Indie Gala and doing everything in a shitty halfass ripoff type of way.

This

It's a pretty shitty and shameless ripoff, with the only difference being the point system, which is shittier.

I agree. Copied down to not allowing DOTA2 and Metro 2033.

There are other differences. For example, I can't see past the first 16 giveaways and the filter box on the home page doesn't seem to work. Oh, and the first two or three giveaways listed tonight tend to say "Ends in 0 secs". You've got to admit that is a different way of doing things compared to SteamGifts.

Gonna use the site after a few months... or maybe not :P

i think a few months is how long the verification process takes to actually work xD

Well, I just one off my first giveaway there. Torchlight, cost about 3000 points (I started with 100,000) to enter and won. So that was very lucky. I think I'll have to use both sites now.

Their point system and bidding system is actually pretty intriguing. It actually sounds like a decent formula.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

True, but the UI still sucks, though. Plus, the idea of being able to put in any number for the points requirement to enter a giveaway, might be a bad one.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

UI is continually being improved, I see changes on it daily. Everything still works, even though it may not look polished.

Set bidding is almost like contributor giveaways, so the odds are lower for those who are willing to risk more and also give away more.

Its a decent idea, but appears to be somewhat shoddily executed. The whole site seems a bit shoddily executed. I think the Gala folks thought they could just toss out a basic framework and it would work, without the need to flesh it out or spend much effort maintaining it.

1 decade ago

I think it will flesh out over time... the premise is there, and these things (design flaws are what I have in mind) have a way of ironing themselves out, especially once they build a community.

I won Don't Starve, ergo not shitty!

Non-regenerating points and user-set entry fee means they have way better odds than the average public SG giveaways.

They really need to work on the layout and interface, though.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, the interface looks freakin' horrible XD

1 decade ago

The FAQ is so vague.

We can't enter games we own already. But it doesn't say anything else. So what if we win it and give it away? We can reenter another right? Since we don't own it.

The FAQ really needs more detail...

Also the point system is pants on head retarded.

Shitty it may be, but how I can resist more giveaways? (Not that I enter many here, but still, it's the idea.)

They don't want me. :( They say I don't have enough Steam games. Probably got wind that I didn't buy any games on this Steam sale. But I bought so many on the summer sale. Please forgive me. I'll be good.

It irks me how it gives the impression that they're responsible for the 'fantastic' and 'generous' giveaways, rather than it being the awesomeness of the users responsible for kindly donating, like the superb steamgifts community.

I hate it when I have the chance to win free stuff. I prefer 800:1 shots for gala keys here than the 50:1 odds over there.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It seems they hide the community side of things over there, and the points system seems to go against the concept of getting gifts from nice people, seeing as you have to create giveaways to even get points.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

lol, the set up is far better over at Gala.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Why shitty? Maybe webpage is not as beautifull but the idea is quite good still unpolished. Their system is way better than contribution I must say. If you want to win there, you must give something. Other way than this you do not generate points (well you do up to 2500 max) and if you don't you almost cant join better game giveaways. The only thing that makes it fail is total freedom of how much points are need to enter (sick point prices made by givers). For example I can give The binding of Isaac and make it cost 500 000 points. If they make reasonable limits of max points for each game it would be almost perfect

Initially I was put off by it but that's because of the F2P abuse that happened at the beginning. I'm starting to warm up to it. Helped that I won Castle Crashers within my first 5 bids on the site.
