Maybe it's just personal taste but I could never stand this type of customization.
It just reminds me too much of beginner web design stuff. Steam profiles in particular reminds me Myspace and generally looks awful.

i don't know, and the profiles, that got the artwort showcase/screenshots as a background aren't that creative in my opinion, this is too common... on my profile, i got my important thing listed, haha
