Perfect! I have an issue with bluetooth. It disconnects everytime I turn on my PC. I need to manually switch off BT, then switch it on, everytime I need to use it. That's the only solution I've found so far that works.

hmm, what bt device are you trying to connect, and how old are they? damaged in any way? same question with the pc, is it damaged or old?
(trying to rule out physical damage)

are you putting the pc to sleep or hibernating? or are you shutting it down? if you shut it down everytime thats not an issue, probably normal from turning on after being shut down that it has to turn off and back on the bluetooth

Is there such a thing as a dustproof case?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

probably not, because the pc needs to have airflow, i guess you could theoretically put dust covers or pads over your pc, (pads with holes in them so that air passes through but dust doesnt)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If you hookup your GPU & CPU to watercooling (preferably closed loop because then you don't need to worry about replacing the coolant), and then point all your PCs fans outwards (so it just blows air out) then your system shouldn't really get dust in it.

This won't be an optimal build, but a build that will greatly reduce the amount of dust buildup.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

As much air must come inside the case as it leaves. You won't get vacuum just because you point all fans "outward".

If you point all fans "out", then they will push air out and fresh air will be drawn in through non-filtered mesh and gaps in case. Which means more dust inside. You'd need to move the loop outside of the PC, together with radiators and fans, and seal all gaps in the case itself, to have dust-free space.

To reduce dust buildup inside, you'd need to have more air come inside the case through dust-filtered fans than is pushed out through non-filtered fans. That way you have a bit of positive pressure, which prevents dust entering the case through non-specific spaces. Like grills on the expansion slots at the back or gaps in the metal plates fitting.

You can get positive pressure cases (or setup any case with adequate fan placements) which intake through filtered fans. Downside you have to clean the filter every few weeks, upside dustfree PC :)

This thread feels like a godsend.
Right now, my computer randomly plays the USB connection and disconnection sounds.
I don’t have any particular idea what might be causing it.
Is there a way to figure out which USB device (or which USB port) is connecting/disconnecting?

you could go to the connected devices in windows settings, (i beleive it is the same area where you connect to bluetooth) and see which peripheral is disappearing and reappearing, then disconnect it and buy a new one, lmk if that works

It was mostly a Win10 issue but it was never really fixed and my gf also had the issue on her Win11 laptop just recently.
I think it's just the system not being able to recognize when a device is idle or just not being used atm and not switching back when it needs to.

were the ports dirty or damaged like i said? on either the pc or peripheral?

Thank you for your reply.
I haven't done any cleaning, but I have updated my PC. I haven't updated the drivers.
As for USB devices, I only have a keyboard, mouse, USB charging cable, and Valve Index connected.
These devices work without any issues, and usually, even if they disconnect, they reconnect within a second, so I almost miss it.
(The sound of disconnection and reconnection happens consecutively.)
I’ll report any further progress. Thank you again.

i know with my old laptop, it only supported 3 usb devices at a time, any more then that, and it would disconnect and reconnect sometimes, although usually the device just wouldnt work at all, that doesnt seem to be the case here

even just doing some light blowing could sometimes help, could be dust, as long as there isnt visable damage it shouldnt not work, but yes, keep me posted :)

Following Kappa King's advice, I checked the Event Viewer.
When the issue occurred, I found an error under Administrative Events with the following details:

Event ID: 131
Source: DeviceSetupManager
Message: Metadata staging failed. Result = 0x80070490 for container '{6CCEA67D-3370-11ED-AF63-04D4C4920D72}'

Is there any useful information that can be gathered from this?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

i cant identify exact error codes but after some research (Chatgpt, YES ITS ACCURATE) Error 0x80070490 = ERROR_NOT_FOUND, which usually means a file, component, or registry entry is missing or cannot be found by the system.
it means that windows couldnt fetch metadata for the device, could be

Loose USB connection or bad USB cable/device.

The USB port itself is failing or has poor power delivery.

Power saving settings are turning off USB ports temporarily.

Driver issues or corrupted USB metadata store.

Conflicts caused by recently connected devices.

id recommend keeping your device plugged in and try a windows repair (it repairs windows while keeping all your data safe) just go into settings > System > Recovery > Fix Problems using Windows Update > Reinstall Now. a repair version of windows will install and usually fixes most software related issues, if you still notice the sounds, then it means one of your usb devices is damaged/broken, youll have to do some trial and error on your end testing each device unplugging a different one on each start up to isolate the weak link.

Following KappaKing’s advice, I ran sfc /scannow and was able to repair some corrupted files.
Since then, I’ve been monitoring the situation — the issue seems to occur less frequently, but it still happens from time to time.
Recently, I also noticed that the Control key on my keyboard sometimes doesn’t respond.
It might be a hardware issue with the keyboard or its cable.
I’m using a Razer keyboard and mouse. So far, I’ve had two issues with the mouse (couldn’t charge, and the left-click started feeling weird) and one with the keyboard (LED light failure).
Aren’t Razer devices kind of prone to failure…?

I've had this a few times, it's usually faulty cables. Usually from mouse or headphones.

I've had this issue one time but it was from an usb stick if i'm not mistaking, it was constantly connecting and disconnecting, think it was driver related.

Exactly. In my experience, so much depends on the specific hardware and the exact configuration of a machine. And then you have the driver versions, the piecemeal software that everyone has installed. No two end-user machines are the same, so it feels like starting from scratch most of the time.

Permalink

and sometimes it can be an easier issue, not always a deep issue, but in the case it is a deep issue then you just recommend anything you can think of or advise a windows reinstall as that usually fixes most issues

anything outside of hands on/in person... I pretty much don't want to do. Just to many possibilities to want to start listing them all.

sometimes the cause is something that doesn't even sound real to someone who doesn't work with tech... like a microSD card causing a tablet to no longer power on... a laptop AC adapter tripping a commercial facilities circuit breaker(at least confirming it was defective was easy :P), FPC for Display/touch screen causing tablets/phones to no longer boot past a brands logo(and wiping the contacts with an alcohol based solution sometimes fixes it... no visible debris or anything), etc...

reddit is pay to win, moderated for profit and heavily advertised in all forms
yahoo answers was peak internet for knowledge for a long time
when you searched a question online the 1st thing would would get is other people asking the same question on YA and almost always a helpful answer
the internet has gone from sharing of knowledge to trying to sell you shit in every way and form.
much harder to find accurate and helpful info
just like how rotten tomatoes removed negative reviews of movies for $$$ and we lost all trust in the site. reddit removes posts and info they dont like or the sponsors
both sites have fallen to greed

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

you just need to know where to go, i havent seen that side of reddit, i know there are lots of ads at the top of posts and while scrolling through posts, but its not that bad,
same with the internet, USE BRAVE BROWSER, not firefox or chrome, as they have TONS of sponsered search results instead of what you were actually searching for, Brave also has an amazing ad/tracking blocker, its very speedy as well and takes up less resources to run.

ChatGPT has gotten amazing also with each passing day, ASK CHATGPT TO TURN ON AUTO-VERIFY MODE, it will search for a reputable source online to make sure its answers are correct, its not 100% obviously but its wayy better.

Rotten Tomatoes got bought by Disney i believe, and should never be used... FOR MOVIE REVIEWS (this isnt my area at all but...) Common Sense Media used to be alright and still can be useful, BUT IMDB is my #1 pick, they have parents guides built into the page, and have good reviews.

Is it that bad to hold onto Windows 10 for the rest of the year or get a new PC when they stop supporting it?
What would be a good choice in Linux OS?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

good question, staying on Windows 10 will be ok, its just that there wont be any more security updates, so if you practice decent internet safety youll be fine, it just means that there will be more ways for you to potentially get hacked or virus etc. as there arent actively patching that os anymore

you can update to windows 11 using a website called "Rufus" (search it up online) regardless of your hardware being "compatible"

as for Linux Distros i havent had any personal experience in them, BUT i hear that Ubuntu and Arch are popular choices if you choose to go that route

If you have already completed the update and are not experiencing any problems, don't worry.

If you haven't, skip a week.

Microsoft takes unusual step of delaying a Windows 11 update, leaving some PC gamers still waiting for crucial fixes for 24H2 | TechRadar
https://www.techradar.com/computing/windows/microsoft-takes-unusual-step-of-delaying-a-windows-11-update-leaving-some-pc-gamers-still-waiting-for-crucial-fixes-for-24h2

There seems to be a commotion that motherboards are becoming paperweight when trying to update values that exceed the capacity of the DBX rewrite area in the BIOS during the Secure Boot related rewrite of Windows Update.
This problem seems to occur with older motherboards, so those who have not updated Windows on June 10 may want to postpone updating.

🤔
Q.What "older" MotherBoards?

A.They say that motherboards from the era of small UEFI capacity are not holding up well to the updates and are being ruined.
This is a very detailed description of the motherboard specifications, so it is hard to mention what is wrong with every single one of them.

Some manufacturers have issued notices of correction today, so it would be a good idea to go check your manufacturer's website.

for people who bought recently a new laptop; you should change some settings to use it full potential. If you have nvidia GPU, open Nvidia app. Firstly; click graphics then general settings. You should change power management mode from normal to maximum performance.

Also; change your power plan. Generally; it is chosen as balanced. You should select high performance. If there is no option you can add a new power plan manually or via using CMD.
