Hi everyone. First, I know this isn't steam forums, but I like the community and maybe you could help me.

I bought Broken Sword trilogy for my girlfriend, and made a steam account for her. The problem is that when we tried to instal steam in his pc, it donwloaded, installed and updated smoothly. But after that, when we tried to run the client, it tried to search for another update and crashed saying that there were no internet conection. It's something about her pc cause cause it sais that it can't connect to the net despite of being able to use the browser and download things without a problem.

Is there anyway I could update her steam client by copying files from my computer so she can download the games?

Thanks.

P.D: I'm sorry I don't know how to English properly.

I'm afraid I can not help you any further than saying wait for it to work. It could be that your issue is related to the problem on Steam where you sometimes lose your connection to the Steam client, even if your connection is stable and works otherwise fine (not talking about maintenances or the usual technical issues). I don't know what causes this but waiting has helped me before. Perhaps someone knows better.

No, the problem is on the pc. When you click on net management (I don't know how that thing is called in English), it's says something like the wifi doesn't give permission to conect, though she can use internet without a problem. She should format her hard drive and star it over. I was wondering if there was anyway to dodge that updating problem. She's now in her student appartment with another conection and the problem continues.

Thanks anyway.

Try deleting ClientRegistry.blob file in steam folder and then running steam, it should rebuild properly :)

In addition to what the others said, you might want to check if the firewall hasn't blocked steam from going online (or any other program that has a firewall such as avg)

Yes, I checked, it wasn't blocked.

We should have tried that when she was here, we'll do it when she gets back.

That was happening once to me. Problem was low disk space.

I'll ask her, but I think she has plenty of free space.

Thanks anyway.

Valve is trying to make changes to Steam to deal with the issue you're describing. To successfully complete the update, you need to temporarily disable real-time antivirus protection. After applying the Steam update, you can turn real-time protection back on.

(Edited for accuracy. I hadn't actually read the news since the first mention of AV problems and thought they were getting it fixed.)

If what Olde says doesn't work, try this: go into your Steam folder and delete everything except Steam.exe and the folder Steamapps. Run Steam.exe and wait for it to recover the client files.
