What's a futbol?
Also, old fashion running after a ball game-type, so awesome! Let's set up two teams of men running after one single ball, fascinating thing!
Old school were the football games released for megadrive and playstation 1, those were indeed fun back in the day.

FM 2014, because neither FIFA nor PES handle career mode in a satisfying manner.

Why kick a ball when we got SPREADSHEETS MAN.
It's certainly not for the faint of heart, similar to comparing Paradox Grand Strategy to the Total War series.

I picked this one because the music sucks, but there are hundreds to choose from. I have a huuuge soft spot for FIFA, but realistic it is not.

The point was/is that FIFA, and FUT in particular has always striven for "fun" or "experience" over realism, they have heralded the same in many interviews on game development. The opposite of which, PES has always sought to capitalize on.
I think PES isn't great personally, dodgy touch system and doesn't have that "feel." I have a ton of fun on FIFA, but I shouldn't be scoring 6+ goals every game and PACING like a mofoooooo.

That's a very fair point about FUT. FUT matches are extremely arcade-like, i forgot about them since I rarely play FUT.
Perhaps it's partly to do with the decline in PES over the past four years and Fifa's advancements, but Fifa 13 has been the most realistic football game for me overall.
I guess I was taking the licencing into account and that paired with the gameplay of the latest versions of each, I still feel that Fifa offers more realism at the moment.

Licenses don't make a sim. Players in PES act much more like their real counterparts, unlike in FIFA.
But the new ones aren't out yet, so thread is pointless ;_;

Let's bear in mind that while PES is getting a new engine, they were previously using the same engine as back on the PS2, they've just been brushing up on the animations each year. Fifa have been using a new engine which they update each year and they're switching to a new engine for the next-gen releases.

Haven't played either, but FIFA 13 was a million times better than PES 2013.
EDIT: Looks like the prospect of a new game engine for PES 2014 has people excited, so hopefully that goes well. But if it's the same development team ... hard to imagine they turn out a dramatically better product in one year.

Well, PES 14 will be on Steam and so hopefully be discounted eralier than FIFA...
Also Manni Breukmann and Frank Buschmann really need some new lines. Or at last lines that actually make sense.

Well, you probably should go with gameplay that is more pleasurable for you. Just remember, Fifa14 trailers probably don't show PC version, as EA said "f-ck you PC gamers, your computers suck, you'll get old-gen version, along PS3 and X360".
To tell truth, if this were two games I'd want to play, I wouldn't bother with game that practically says I'm not worthy playing it and should be happy with it's brainless cousin...

FIFA 14 for console owners.
PES 14 for PC.
Personally, I find FIFA 13 on PC too hard to control and I looked like a port, whereas the Xbox and PlayStation versions are more fluent.
PES 14 for PC is probably better as it's on Steam so more chance of a discount, and it's not on Origin, and it's probably better graphics and a new engine as said above. (I can't say I've played the latest PES's on PC, but I played PES 08 a while back and that was fine (except the licensing issues about team names)

I always wait for the demos before making my final decision. PES has been going downhill the past few years, and whilst a new engine is exciting I'm not sure it will be enough to win this year. If you're getting the game on the next gen consoles, then Fifa will have an updated engine also (at the cost of the few months extra wait). PES will not be releasing on the next gen consoles.
PES is boasting it's new engine as it's big change, it comes with revamped physics and controls. Other things of note are separate models for kits and players, better weight shift and ball control animations, the promise of new gameplay elements to make it interesting when using a strong and slower player and their "FullControl" which claims to give improved control options for every pass, shot and first touch.
As for Fifa FUT has been completely overhauled this year, and there are more career mode changes that look very good if (like me) that's your thing. Fifa are introducing "Pure Shot" which claims to give the most realistically controlled shots, players will actually feel the weight of the ball when shooting. More defensive controls with their "Protect the ball" controls, Improved AI, they've especially focused on build-up play and defence, variable dribbling animations and controls that depend on the skill of the individual player, and new curling lofted through balls.
All the shiny features both games are adding mean nothing if the gameplay isn't on point though. I'd definitely check out the demos.
Fifa 14's demo is out on September 10th on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 (it will be a day later on September 11th on the PS3 in EU) with the release date of September 24th NA and 27th EU.
PES 2014's demo is available on September 11th on PS3 and September 12th on Xbox 360. The PC demo for PES will not be available until after release. The release date is September 20th for EU and 24th for NA.

At least for Germany they only have the licence for Bayern München because EA has loads of money and the DFL likes money. But you can just patch the game and you are fine/ the game is even better with mods.

While I generally agree with you, PES has an amazing community and all of the teams/kits do get added into the game by them. That said, I've not bothered with PES since about 08 or so.
I'm tempted to give PES another go this year. For a long time, FIFA was behind them but caught up and passed them in a big way. I cant even remember the last version of PES I played for certain. I think it was the 2nd or 3rd year Master League was in existence.
I'm looking forward to see the new FIFA 14 engine, but that is console only. FIFA 14 PC be closer to FIFA 13.

depends if you are playing on the console or pc, on the pc get pes, because EA said that the pc version of FIFA 14 will not include the new ignite engine, it sound like it will just be fifa 13 with changed rosters
