+1 7 gigs should not take 5 hours, or even 3 days.

My download speed is 178kb/s. And thats maximum speed. Complaining won't do much there.
The real problem is that a shitload of people just do the same download and EA servers are melting. As if this wouldn't happen with Steam all the time...

Yeah, because going to your ISP and saying "Origin isn't maxing out my connection" is going to get people anywhere.
I've been downloading from them and the speed hasn't been optimal, but I guessed that may be due to their servers being stressed at the moment. Though once Battlefield 3 got to 80-something percent, it gave me an error and told me to wait a few minutes before trying again, at which point it started from 0%. It did this three times, at varying levels of completion.
This is of course also overlooking that an error in the Origin installer wiped 300gb of non-origin files, due to it deciding that emptying it's parent directory was a good idea. Still grumbling about that one. That, and the retroactive invasive EULA it tries to apply over older games, and you have a recipe for disaster. Truth be told, I only folded and ended up using it due to accidentally clicking through a EULA after some patch notes in Darkspore, which turned out to be a copy of the Origin EULA, so my abstaining ended up being for nothing. :V
Oh well.

Origin also scans your computer, so it's basicly spyware.

+1 - The only reason they can claim it's not spyware is because, sadly, we agreed to it. But yeah you're right, Origin is quite an intrusive piece of software. Same deal however could be said about Facebook, XBox One, Smart Phones, NSA, PRISM, etc... As for Origin, it scans your entire hard drives content, IP Address, personal details and the hardware you use, etc, and reports back to the mothership.

They can still track your location if you have your brick phone on you using cell phone tower triangulation. You need to take out your battery.

If you live in Europe or in USA (California ONLY) you don't have to worry about it.
You can install it, they are not doing that anymore (PLUS sharing data with "selected" partners).

Reading this question + solution made my Origin work like a charm. Hopefully it will fix your issues as well.

Thanks for this, based off the that thread I'm having the exact same issue as some others there. Hopefully this works. :)
EDIT:Alas - it has not worked. Jumped back down to 60% from 70%. I guess I'll try this again when EA gets their shit together...

That fix worked for me, I was trying to download Battlefield 3 and it kept on pausing the download. After applying that fix the download problems were over.

I'm trying REALLY hard to like it. I am. But I've been trying to download a game for three days now, and it's only at 58% [In my house I'm usually only able to download overnight or else be yelled at for slowing down our connection]. It's only 7 gigs which would normally be finished in about 5 hours, but the first night it got about 30% finished when I was greeted by an error message about disconnecting. Fair enough, maybe my router was having connection issues. But then when I looked this morning, it was only at 70%, and everything was grayed out with the message "pausing download" on the bottom. No option to do anything. I was still connected to the internet so that wasn't an issue. The only way I fixed it was restarting Origin. Now today, I said screw it and have been trying to download all day. I got to about 80% before jumping back down to 50%. It's at 60% right now. So what the fuck happened to that gig that had been there before?
I wanna chalk this up to overflow from the Humble Bundle, but this is causing nothing but disdain for them from me. Not saying Steam is anywhere near perfect, but they regularly have a couple million online and their servers do just fine.
