Hi there,

I would like to know if an Auto-bump script/feature is possible to make for Steamtrades.com

What tools/knowledge is required and what not.

Thanks! :)

EDIT

Probably I didn't make myself clear. I want to use the auto-bump while I'm online. It's a pain having to manually bump my thread every hour or so, most of the time I'm on my PC I forget to do it.

EDIT 2

Funny how 90% of the comments don't contribute in the this topic. Oh the usefulness of the Internet...

Why? Why? Why?

Don't do that...

Ehm... why?

I would make it to auto-bump my threads every 1 hour, as the rules say. What's wrong with that?

Just no.

Oh, if that is the rules, sounds interesting.

I don't know if it's against their rules, but I can definitely see them not being happy at people bending the rules to the limit like that.

It wouldn't be hard to write with a little programming knowledge, but I would highly recommend not doing so. And I would especially recommend not having it bump every hour, on the hour. That would just make it plainly obvious what you were doing.

I've seen one guy selling a auto bump script. So its possible.
I would find it very annoying though to see the same threads bumped every hour without the creator leaving replies
If a vote would come up I'd vote against it ;)

What's the difference of me being online bumping my thread every hour, as of the rules? Again, would use it while I'm online.

If youre online I see no problem, but then again you wouldnt really need it

As I spend my time mostly near my PC to study/work these days, it would be really handy having such a tool.

Why not just get a egg timer?

Instead of coming up with "funny" ideas, why don't you contribute more constructively in this conversation?

An autobump script sounds more like a funny idea to me. If you're around you can bump it yourself. If you're not, there's no point in bumping the thread needlessly.

And you do not really need a calculator, if you know the material.

So why would you ever use one?

Report them if you see that. Auto-bump scripts are not allowed.

rofl, you can even just make a macro to press f5 in the browser and it will work in steamtrades

F5 doesnt bump anything

Works with my chrome. F5 the page after your first bump click, after 30min f5 it and it will bump. Must be using shitty browser.

Works on Firefox as well.

F5 just refreshes a page...

Which also refreshes the actions you made on the page, aka pressing the bump button.

You can easily find one searching on ST, but what's the point of using such thing? Even if it's not against the rules, it's on their limit. Also, the 'bump' feature is for using when you're online and to let people interested on your deals that they can do a quick/easy trade for that, since you're available, good for them and for you as well.

I want to use it while I'm online, but not constantly checking my thread every hour just to bump it.

I cannot sign-in, is bumping just commenting something like "bump", or do they have a special button for that?

Autobumps are annoying. So many times I've seen trades I'm interested in being bumped on Dota2Lounge, and then finding out that that person is offline for 10 hours.

That sounds incredibly annoying, why would you do that?

yes, its fairly simple(alot of games have them, have you played kol?) greesemonkey even can do it, you could just search for one, something for steamtrade's bump button probably already exists somewhere

Do you know how, can you show me a guide or something? Thanks!

I think that if you need to bump every hour without having replies, it's simply because nobody is interested. And an uninteresting thread getting bumped is annoying.
With that said, I'm flying away before OP kills me.

Don't fly away. You are right.

Ehm... nope! It also give visibility to the thread, also it could be easier for me checking my thread at random time for replies (thanks to the auto-bump) than having to constantly check it every hour to bump it too.

Is it too hard to get the point?

point is that "auto-bump" feature will be abused a lot ^^

What's the difference of me going once every hour to bump it myself and having the script auto-bump my thread (plot twist) while I'm online?

If there's no difference then do it manually ;)

use scheduled reminder or timer or something like that stuff that would remind you every 10, 30, 60 mins about neccessity of bumping thread...
i have such alarm timer as addon on my firefox, for example ^^

What would be the point, beside annoying all the other traders? If you autobump, you're not actually reading the replies that you might get. When I see a freshly bumped thread I'm assuming that the trader is close by and will quickly notice my offer. If you're just bumping for the sake of bumping and not being around to answer replies, you're just wasting everyone's time.

I think Zomby2D's emphasis was on the "you're not reading the replies in your trade"

which is a valid point IMHO, because even though you're online, you're not looking at the content of the thread.

Ok then, I'll put a notification system for every time I have a comment, better now?

And even if I dont reply to the comments right away, what's the problem? Is it bad to pushing my thread for visibility, once every hour as the rules state?

Except if you forgot to bump without a script, you'll forget to check for replies with the script.

The problem with an auto bump script is that despite your good intentions, it'll end up ruining the front page of ST.
Have you ever used TF2 outpost before? in my experience the first 5-10 pages when looking for something are filled with threads that are being auto bumped, which in turn makes it nearly impossible to find a trader that's actually available to trade at that moment so you end up adding 10 guys and if you're lucky maybe 1 will accept an invite within an hour or so.
To make things worse, there's tons of people that simply leave the site for a while, or don't have a chance to update their thread and i think it's safe to say most of them won't turn of auto bumping.

Thing is most of the offers I get are when I'm offline and I reply to him 10+ hours after his post. So I don't think that it would be a problem.

I'm a dedicated trader on ST, so it would be really useful to have a tool like this. Also, I don't leave my threads active when I'm done.

Like I said, despite YOUR good intentions.
If there's an autobump script out there, most traders will start using it, especially lazy traders.
TF2 outpost only has that option for paying members of their site, and trust me, it's wayyyyy overpriced for the service it offers and still the site is flooded with auto bumped threads, I don't even want to know what a chaos it would become if any random person could auto bump on ST.

I see your point, but I'm interested in using it while I'm online and checking my thread at random times, without keeping in mind that I have to check every hour to bump it manually.
