I don't like horror games or movies. If I watch/play it, I won't be able to sleep at night and I would be super paranoid. I would see something on my peripheral, but it would always be my hair, or an object.. but that still freaks me out.. soo.. time to face my fear, I will play a horror game..

I am looking for a cheap (or free) horror game that have 0 jump scares.. small steps for now. I have crappy laptop, so a low graphic horror game would be great.

There probably isn't a cheap horror game that have 0 jump scare and can run on crappy laptops, buuut... I'm hoping.

If you can find a multiplayer one, and another one here that also is too scared to play horror games, then maybe we can conquer our fears together.

also, not to mention I am on my late twenties.. so It's a little embarrassing to admit this. cough i sleep with tv on... cough.

It does also have jump scares. While they're not outright 'screamers' (as in startle scares where something lunges up to the screen and emits a shrill noise), there are a number of scripted instances of doors slamming and similar things.

I find games like Amnesia and Outlast to be completely, 100% unscary, so I doubt my recommendations would help you any, if you're already concerned with those. :P

Good luck! :)

This is a game that literally operates on screamers. OP said they didn't want startle scares :P

You know what's perfect for this? The original Resident Evil 1.
It has low graphics, which makes it less scary (imo) and it's not as dark (lighting) as horror games nowadays. It does have jumpscares tho!
Although you'd need an emulator for that, which is free to get, but y'know...

If you want to play a horror game in multiplayer, pick up Damned. It's scary as fuck, but since you should ideally play it with 4 other friends it's good fun.

You know what? That's a really good point.
Old games can still be intense/scary without being overwhelming. Old horror games that didn't age well give newcomers that extra bit of cushioning to help ease them in.

Silent Hill 1 didn't visually age well, but that one is totally out of the question, haha.

F.E.A.R. is a definitely good "horror" game without being actually scary.
Lots of atmospherics and amazing lighting effects, but very few actual scares. It makes you tense and anxious without freaking you out.

It has jumpscares though. I imagine this is 'nopenopenope' territory for the OP.

Few, if I remember correctly. Only one of them actually scared me, the rest of them are mostly "whoa, I didn't expect that".

Usually a few per level, but they're usually accompanied by a loud, shrill noise, which makes them tantamount to 'screamers' grade startles.

White noise online

You have it in your steam library and have played for 0.2 hours . maybe for trading cards ?!

if so, play it in co-op mode. I didn't play it yet so i don't know if it's a creepy game or not .

that 0.2 hours is not for cards but staying in the lobby hoping that one day, a lost soul would play this game. unfortunately, there is always never anybody to play with. I am really hoping to play it though since it looks amazing..

Instead I played Garry's mod; Stop it Slender.

no worries, im 28 and im a total pussy now.. getting old, i cant stand jump scares anymore, even if i used to watch horror films and play horror games when i was a teen :| id say, try left 4 dead or games like it, with no jump scares, just monsters / zombies that can make you get used to gore and blood, killing floors and stuff like that.. playing coop is better imo than you being alone feeling weak vs the game all on your own.

Also, Dead Rising 2 , i dont think it had jump scares. Just zombies
