Hi gents,

Any users of 4k screen computer user? Preferably the laptop.
I have the 4K EVGA SC17 - GTX 1070 (Found out that 4K with laptop screen is a waste after buying it, but let's move on from that).

So to Maximize the 4K, any apps that you recommend to use? Music, movie, music recorder, etc..
E.g. Default VLC with 4k is very small (all the buttons, fonts, etc). Scaling it up works, but other that works normally became too big..

And any VR item you would recommend?
Not too expensive but still great for everything VRs..

Thanks folks, Happy Gaming =)
Don't forget the poll, I know I'm not the only 4K Laptop users in the world ><

Edit: Before anyone say something, I noticed the Poll answer for Console has 1 misspell =)

On 4K you can turn on option on mouse to leave trails. It's easy to locate mouse after that.
You can also make a shortcuts to quickly switch resolution between FHD nad 4K.

There's no "everything" option. I got a decent desktop and also all the consoles.

I can recommend Zoom Player. Excellent video player with hundreds of nice options and full customizability. It's not free, but imho it's worth it. The only other player I know that had a similar comfort level was KMPlayer, but that one got more and more infected with AdWare while not getting any actual updates. Zoom Player has been bundled before (Groupees I think), so you might even get it cheap on Steamtrades. ZP also has madVR support, if that's relevant

Will check the free ones first. If they dont look big enough with 4K 17" laptop, then might try the pay ones.

I have desktop with GtX 1070 and 4k TV as monitor.
Here's what I use:

Internet : Chrome
Video : PotPlayer + madVR (similiar to MPC-HC but better UI)
Music : MusicBee
Picture : Windows Picture Viewer
Unzipper : Peazip
Image Mounter : Daemon Tools
Torrent : Free download manager
Uninstaller : Default
Maintenance : CCleaner
Anti Virus : Windows Defender
Drawing app : Krita (scalable UI, easy to use like SAI and free)

Interesting.. Will look at that "Pot" later =)

If its with TV, I think even any apps wouldn't look small anyway??
Not like my 4K & 17" Laptop..

Yeah funny name :), but it's robust video player and actually developed by kakao.
Hmm yeah, but some apps do still looks smallish even on 4K TV.
The app that i use they have good visibility UI and some are scalable, I think they'll work well at 17" laptop too.

So I decided to give PotPlayer a shot first, since I already know MPC.
But how do I install the MadVR to it? I've only unzipped the folder in program files and did the install.bat

Anything else I need to do in PotPlayer setting? Thanks =)

Edit: After comparing both Por & VLC, the Pot is definitely darker than VLC (comparing with the same movie).
Did I do something wrong?

Hi, after executed the .bat, I think madVR already installed.

Now you need to configure potplayer to use madVR as renderer.
Right click Potplayer when playing video, select Video > Video Renderer > Madshi Video Renderer.

Then configure madVR filter setting.
Right click, select Filter > Madshi video renderer, click it, then click "edit setting".
You can configure it to have great upsacale feature, here's good setting guide

As for brightness and color setting, you can right click and select "Video", the lower part contains brightness setting etc.
Or right click, click "preference" > Video > colorspaces.

Thanks for your reply.

I did the video renderer, but I cant see Madshi in Filter (only DXVA Video decoder).
Anything else I should try?

Try this:
Right click, filters > manage filters, click add registered filter and add madVR.
If it's not there, add external filters and point to madVR, add madVR.ax

It works, thanks.

I also tried to follow your guide as best as I can, since the interface are quite different (prob older version).
So now whenever I use POT, the MadVR starts automatically or do I need to activate it manually?

MadVR will start automatically, unless you changed the video renderer manually.
You can test the enhancement by playing some video with madVR renderer and switched to other renderer like "built in Direct3D 11", there should be noticeable different.

Unfortunately it deosnt have the "Scroll to backward / forward" feature like VLC. That feature is wonderful.
But so far it looks good after the MadVR.

Thanks =)

Do you mean using mouse wheel as forward / backward?
You can configure those in preference > general > mouse.
Then configure wheel up as jump forward, wheel down as jump backward.

Close, but not that.
In VLC, if we scroll up / down on the "Elapsed time bar" (left side of volume), then it would go forward / backward.
Scrolling anywhere else would change the volume (default).

I checked the mouse option but it has no option to do that unfortunately.

I've been using PotPlayer for many years now for both watching videos and listening to music and I'm very satisfied with it. Before that I used KMPlayer made by the same author.

It has a lot of settings to mess around with and is overall great. Definitely give it a try.

Never felt the need to use any different programs no matter what the resolution is. Also scaling just takes away the whole point of more resolution, having more space to work in.

Mainly asking for Apps Recommendation for 4K 17" Laptop.
Because some apps that looks fine for 1080p, would look very small with 4K (Hard to see & click).

Uninstalling with control panel sometimes would leave leftover files behinds, whereas using a specific uninstaller would "supposedly" delete all trace of the uninstalled program.

But not needed since you clean install windows every 6 months ><

Those programs are usually unneccessary bloatware. If you do not install the program in the first place, you will not have to uninstall it, too.
