Wasn't there drama about the devs deleting threads and reviews when it released, or am I thinking of something else?
Comment has been collapsed.
There was. It wasn't the devs. It was the fans flagging the reviews and having the temporarily removed. Because Toby Fox is the music producer of homestuck. An extremely famous online novel. Toby Fox created this video game, so fans were just being fans I guess. Protecting the shit out of his stuff.

I really dislike Jim Sterling, but I can confirm that Undertale is better than it looks. Won't appeal to people who aren't fans of the genre, but still, if you are, give it a shot. It's cheap, too.

Seems like you lose when a critic well known for rough-housing pretty much all games that come out is absolutely captivated by the product i've been promoting saying it's a hella good.
Yeah... Implying that anyone care about that sad manchild. Tell me one thing - if you play a game, and you enjoy it, let's say it's 8/10 on your private score board, and some boor tells it's garbage, do you change your mind because of him? No! Does that mean anything to you? No! Do you care about that guy? No! Probably no, and if you do, you shoudln't.
You see where I'm going? I'm saying that if game is garbage (which is very subjective, as many opionions, as players, but that's not the case right now), some one meaningless guy won't change it. I guess it's nice that he liked it and had a good time, but you really shouldn't act like that score means anything more than any other review.

I guess i'm just annoyed that people don't care about undertale because of it's graphics and other stupid reasons. I don't really value other peoples thoughts about things except totalbiscuits since they're rational about it and objective.
I'm just happy to see that a well-known critic like Jim Sterling liked it and i'm hoping more people will buy it or be interested in it because he liked it and they want to see why he liked it.
I think Jim's discussions about things (I've seen like, what. 10? of his videos. But I know he's popular.) are a immature, rude, inconsiderate, a bit over the top, and other things.
I don't value number rating scales, and I don't like games specifically just because someone else likes them.

If you're new to the indie games scene at large, time to accept that there will always been people who automatically dislike games because they don't look as good as AAA games. fortunately you have to own a game on Steam to rate it (unlike Metacritic) so rarely does someone end up with a game let alone play it if they think it looks bad

Just because people like good graphics does not make their choice meaningless or worthless.
Its the same as plenty of people like sparkly vampires. You might think that its a silly thing or pointless thing to like, but to those fans, it really is good. I mean, there is plenty of games, books, movies I like that my family never does, but I respect their opinion, and let them be. It does not devalue their thoughts or choices in my eyes.

I beg your pardon, but Jim Stirling's 10 points worth miles more than IGN's. Points worth nothing, but if you take into consideration who said it - it matters at least to the point that it's not worth the same as another person's review. But yes, at the end the collective reviews that give an okay-ish picture, but the best to check the individual reviews for actual facts, words. For example Jim gave Mad Max 6/10 because of if fills it's world with "busywork". And he is right, lots of open world game covers the lack of content under repetitive minimissions and hundreds of collectibles. But if you love collectibles? Go for it! -> This is why I also think that point-reviews are just guidelines. Much better to read a longer reviews, but the best if you can try it out before (Sadly relatively rare option nowadays)

If every game's better than 8, then no reason to use the 1-10 scale. Sad thing that we've been trained by gaming sites that 8 is okay, and everything below that should be treated with lots of care. Jim had the nuts to score Mad Max 6/10 with a perfect reason - mostly open world little this, little that is the base of the gameplay. And while it can make it enjoyable, it won't make a game good at all. :D Personally I also doesn't like Jim that much. I think he lowballed his channel with his load, sometimes vulgar style, while his real critic videos are incredibly good. He's a clever man who plays the clown. But apparently he loves it, and he can live from it, so I have absolutely no right to judge him as a "man-child" like the guy I replied did.
Sorry, got a little a lot long for your short reply. I just wanted to say that there's a reason I don't like IGN and I don't trust most site's point system. I'm a little oldtimer, who readr reviews 2-3 pages long with personal stories, feelings and emphasis on the good and bad parts, not just smacking a point out, like today's standard :)

It totally does look like Shitty Indie Game #3912186 but it's really well done, well written, and has amazing music.

Amazing music confirmed.
After listening to this I added the game to my wishlist.

Jim Sterling wasn't the only person who gave it a 10/10
It looks really good :o

A agree it looks like a really good concept, but there was no point in making another thread, just because a few people dont appreciate it, its their opinion and their entitled to having one. You should still be able to take the same enjoyment out of the game

There's a fine line between enthusiast and addict. Some people don't have the strength that you do and they become hopeless addicts.

Toby Fox? That name sounds familiar...
Didn't he make a lot of the music in Homestuck?
edit: I see you already mentioned that in the comments

Y'know, I'm quite surprised you like this game so much but have played Recettear for less than 4 hours. I'd expect you to love that game too from my rough comparison between the two.
(Yes, I just gave you a not at all subtle counter recommendation. :D )
Anyway, if you're wondering why some people (myself included to an extend) don't wanna check if out despite you praising it to the heavens, there's apparently a thing called Hype Aversion. I was literally told about it a few hours ago. So, I guess it's only natural that you will not be able to convince everyone- please don't take offense to that. :/

Look I won't lie to you, this was my train of thought:
So yeah, new wishlisted game there!

You seem way too involved with this. You need to relax, we don't need a dedicated salesperson. Either you are taking a cut of the sales, in which case your behaviour is justified but your opinion becomes irrelevant, or you are not taking a cut, which makes me wonder why you are so combative for a thing you gain nothing for. A simple "I like this game, you should check it out" would have been enough, I don't see the point of "middle fingers" to people who don't share your excitement.

Mmm, since you like it so much, wanna do a giveaway of it? Or are you just going to talk about it :/
Comment has been collapsed.
I'll have to wait for it to go on sale, It looks good, but I just don't have any money. Also this seems like this would be one of the couple of games I can play because my computer sucks. I have a Windows xp 2002, but that'll change next year :)

Someone gifted me the game because they liked it so much (along with a few others), but it's funny because the steam market is silly that I made almost its value back just selling its cards and crafting a few of its boosters since they seemed to sell for $4 still. A week after its release..

You could make a whitelist giveaway and recruit people for it via the forum. Ask them to describe why they might like the game or something, then review their profiles, talk to them a bit, whatever you want to do to see if they seem like the type who'd enjoy the game.

I'd say it's better to make it a private group giveaway with the same concept since groups are much easier to manage, especially when they are based around a specific theme (or in this case a specific game), and if the OP decides to use their whitelist for something else someday it wouldn't be full of people they vaguely know anything about.

I did a whitelist GA for Homeworld a while back and recognized most everyone from the forums that wound up on my list so I was fairly familiar with them already. Anyone I didn't immediately recognize was apparently interested enough in that specific game that they chose to chime in, and on the off chance I just thought they were after anything they could get rather than being specifically interested in HW I could just choose not to invite them.
Either way works though and I don't really see a benefit or problem with either method so a private group GA would work nicely too.

Added to my wishlist when it launched on Steam but I'll be waiting for a sale before buying. Nothing personal, but my backlog is large enough as it is and adding to it while paying full retail price is foolish.

You sure are a fanboy, not sure why it needs 7 topics.

Yeah. Those are expensive. I think i'll try to get the sans background at some point and the ruins one. Maybe the one with Toriel in it too. I'm not sure about the emotes. I'd like to get them, but i'm getting the feeling those prices are going to be sitting up there for awhile.
Too bad i'll probably never get the foil cards. I'd like to get the level 1 foil card badge. That looks nice.

Next Thread: Undertale has received overwhelming positive reviews on Steam.

You really love this game haha. Are you secretly the BFF of the devs? ;)
It does look very interesting. The games wishlisted for me and I'll try it in the future but for the moment I will be focusing on the "backlog" of endless hell I have. .... :D

I recall some of you calling Undertale humble bundle garbage? Seems like you lose when a critic well known for rough-housing pretty much all games that come out is absolutely captivated by the product i've been promoting saying it's a hella good. (Also for people who keep saying I don't play Undertale, I play it offline so i'm not distracted by friends and stuff so they don't screw up my recording of it.)
