To Check if Your Game is Region Locked or Not

I'm seeing too many threads about region locks, so I thought I might just give a hand.

Website to check the game is region locked or not

Go to steamdb.info, find your game, and check whether it is category 1 or 2 or 3.

For category 1, stay away from the game because you can't play it nor buy if from your region.
For category 2, you can't buy the game from your region but if you have the code, it's possible to play it still.
For category 3, you can buy and and play it anywhere.

To find your game ID, use your cart in Steam to check which version of the game is it. Or you can see the address bar and use that code. Credit goes to the redditor, nehalvpatel who created the website for us.

Edit 1 : On that note, here is a thread that you need to check if you're buying any games from Amazon. As you can see, there are SOME games that are region locked and probably shouldn't be bought if you are outside of US. The games that are mentioned are:

Dead Island
Dead Island GOTY
Dead Island Riptide
Metro Last Light
Saint's Row IV
Inversion

Resident Evil 6
Metro Last Light (also has that tag "before" when it went on sale @ 66% sale on steam. I can still play the game even though they edited it on the registry)

I bought dark souls which was region locked from Steam. And trust me, searching Dark Souls only gave me the trailer in the Steam store. Headed to Amazon, saw the deal, bought it. And that was a nerve wracking moment when I was thinking whether it would activate or not. Turns out, it got activated and it showed WW, which was pretty cool. So, you have to see whether it's category 1 or 2. If it's 2, it's probably alright to activate it.

However, this wasn't done by Steam staff or anything. Initially, he got blocked due to some concerns, but however, it got back up. He admits there is some mistakes here and there, so I can't say the website it 100% accurate. However, a further check on google is advisable since there might be others with your situation that could provide a better answer.

Games can have many different subIDs for various sources of a game. A copy bought on Steam might not be restricted, while a retail key is. Always check steamdb.info.

Well, first you have to ensure you are buying the online game code offers. Then you find them in steamdb.info on the game particulars. For example, the 72850 game in the regionlocks.com refer to the Skyrim game id. If you type Skyrim in the steamdb.info, you can find under games that there are 2 version of Skyrim, one with the 72850 and 72869. Under the packages, you can see that the 72869 are written as Skyrim(RU). Thus, you can safely assume that anything bought in Russian will not be activated and not playable anywhere in the world. However, Amazon gives out the 72850 version of Skyrim, which is pretty much activable anywhere.

atiffarrukh is pointing out the fact that you don't know whether this is "72850" or not. Of course it's logical that Amazon won't be selling Russian language copies to US customers, but it sometimes sells region-locked keys - for example - Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide - and this site merrily shows that you can buy the US version and play it.
