I think most people who don't use emulators use the GameCube's GBA adapter thing and record from the Gamecube, or the Wii/Wii U Virtual Console.

True, but some people are a bit apprehensive about using emulators because of the legal gray area around it.

Well, I want to say that it's your only problem if you want to be in this gray area or not. I personally don't mind if you use an emulator or not. I have used one from time to time, without owning the game (I owned it in the past, though). :)
