Typing with Jester for Beta Testing

But I assume it will be fine since last update on beta package was 10 years ago.

what is possible issues beta keys can cause because i dont know any.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0tRQgNiQMo
these keys are old leftovers i try to clear and the main differences are :

  • it's not permitted to sell release state override keys
  • the beta key lets you play the game even before the game is released

so this is no special beta package for my app or similar its just a normal key which if you would have redeemed it before release (10 years ago lol) you could already play it before the game was actually available on steam for sell

also my package has 0 revoked keys and it will stay this way, as this keys are actually still from groupees bundle (rip groupees) i decided to redistribute the leftovers instead of just keeping them getting more dusty :D
For revoking I can revoke any key regarding of steam override status so a retail key is not more safe than a beta key

maybe its just that people expect beta always means time limited access or similar idk, but in fact its a rare steam key instead of some boring retail one as steam limits the amount of beta keys i can get but not retail ones

I received a beta key for "Typing with Jester for Beta Testing." You didn't mention anywhere that you were sending beta keys.
Is it possible to get a full, normal key or remove me from the winners?

no its not possible.
also the only difference between beta and retail key is package override status which means beta keys work before the depot is officially launched which is not relevant as the package is released on steam already so i have no idea why you assume this is some 'not full, unnormal' key

may you elaborate why you think this is inferior to retail key ?

if you are thinking im going to revoke this packages has 0 revoked keys since existance, however it is possible to revoke keys of any status (even retail) so there is in fact no difference except i'm not allowed to sell beta keys (thats why we give them out free) and that the beta key enables you to play the game even before offical release, which is actually an extra over a retail key

@kc, I am going to make this very clear, and I expect you to read it carefully without dismissing my concerns as "paranoia."

1. I speak from bitter, expensive experience.

I am not making these demands out of entitlement or ignorance. I am making them because I have already lived through this exact nightmare.

In the past, I won a giveaway on this very site where the creator handed out beta keys without proper disclosure. I accepted it, and some time later, the beta key was revoked. The game simply vanished from my Steam library.

But the worst part wasn't losing the game. Because I had accepted the key, SteamGifts penalized ME. I received warnings, my account was restricted, and I was treated as the guilty party. Ultimately, to clear my name and actually play the game, I was forced to buy a full retail copy out of my own pocket.

I lost my time, my money, and suffered immense stress because a giveaway creator decided to play games with beta keys. I refuse to go through this nightmare again. I know exactly how this ends, and I will not let you put my SteamGifts account and my wallet at risk.

2. You are distributing an objectively inferior product.

You claim the "only difference" is a package override status. That is a lie by omission. Beta keys are functionally restricted compared to retail keys:

  • No +1 to the Game Count: Beta keys often tie to separate Beta AppIDs or specific testing packages that do not add +1 to the user's total Steam game counter. For collectors on this site, that is a massive difference.
  • No Steam Trading Cards: Games activated via beta keys generally do not drop Steam Trading Cards. You are handing out a product that strips away core Steam community features.
  • Wishlist Removal: As any dev knows, giving a user a beta key removes the game from their Steam Wishlist, meaning we lose track of future sales, DLC releases, or official 1.0 launch notifications.

3. Your "0 revoked keys" argument is a manipulation.

You wrote: "my package has 0 revoked keys and it will stay this way."

This is a classic manipulative tactic. Saying "I haven't revoked them yet" does not mean you cannot revoke them tomorrow. Beta keys (Release State Override) are specifically designed by Valve to be easily revoked at the developer's discretion. Retail keys are permanent; beta keys are temporary by nature.

You also claim: "I can revoke any retail key too, so it's not more safe." This is a false equivalence. Yes, a dev can revoke a retail key if there is fraud or a chargeback. But they do it in 0.01% of cases. Beta keys are revoked constantly. Comparing the two is like saying "You can get hit by a car on the sidewalk, so walking in the middle of a highway is just as safe."

4. You broke the core rule of SteamGifts.

Nowhere in your giveaway description did you state this was a "Beta Key" or "For Testing Purposes." You presented it as a standard game giveaway. According to SteamGifts rules, giveaways must accurately reflect the item being given. You used a bait-and-switch tactic. If you want to give away beta keys, there are specific groups on this site for that, or you must put it in bold letters in the description. You did neither.

5. I am not asking for much. I am asking for what was advertised.

Either provide me with a standard, full retail Steam key, OR remove me from the winners list immediately.

Do not try to gaslight me into accepting a "trojan horse" that threatens my account standing on this site. I know the rules, I know my past experience, and I will not accept a beta key. If you cannot provide a retail key, cancel my win so I can move on and you can give your "dusty leftovers" to someone who doesn't know the risks.

I await your confirmation of a retail key or my removal from this giveaway.

  1. im sorry to hear that but just because you experienced issues with someone else doesnt mean this will apply to every giveaway. Generally its unfortunate that you dont appreciate winning this but instead try to get another key out of it.
  2. i have actually went through and tested this to assure that everything still is as i remember. Game does count as +1 and gives you Trading Cards so not sure where you get your information from
  3. i really dont know what to say, if you dont trust no one just dont join giveaways, again i wont revoke as i also never did that, steam is not checking cd key ban requests, so it is totally possible to bulk delete retail keys as this happened on other games in the past
  4. please point to the rule i broke then, i've checked them and cant find anything related
  5. i can only really delete the entire giveaway which i wont be able do on 50 copy giveaway, as you probably know i can only ask for reroll under certain circumstances which are not given here and all 50 winners would be okay with deleting this giveaway

@kc, your response contains multiple false statements and continues the pattern of manipulation. Let me address each point:

1. Beta keys do NOT provide +1 to game count or trading cards

You claim beta keys give the same benefits as retail keys. This is factually incorrect. Beta keys (Release State Override) are tied to different package IDs in Steam's system and typically:

  • Do NOT add +1 to the total game counter in user profiles
  • Do NOT drop Steam Trading Cards
  • Remove the game from the user's Wishlist

This is not speculation — this is how Steam's package system works. If you want to prove otherwise, show us a screenshot of a user's profile who received your beta key with the +1 counter increased and trading cards dropping. Until then, your claim is false.

2. You're asking which rule you violated, but I already told you

In my previous comment (point 4), I clearly stated: "According to SteamGifts rules, giveaways must accurately reflect the item being given."

Your giveaway description says: "Hey there, the game currently is on sale on steam/humblebundle, check the official website for links..."

Nowhere does it say "Beta Key," "For Testing," or "Release State Override Key." You presented this as a standard game giveaway. This violates the principle of accurate representation. If you want to give away beta keys, you must disclose this upfront — not reveal it after someone wins.

3. Your claim about not being able to remove individual winners is a lie

You wrote: "i can only really delete the entire giveaway which i wont be able do on 50 copy giveaway, as you probably know i can only ask for reroll under certain circumstances which are not given here and all 50 winners would be okay with deleting this giveaway"

This is demonstrably false. Giveaway creators can contact SteamGifts support to remove individual winners or replace defective keys. This is common practice when some keys in a multi-copy giveaway are broken or problematic. You don't need to delete the entire giveaway — you just need to request a winner removal or key replacement through support.

You know this is possible. You're deliberately misrepresenting the system to avoid taking responsibility.

4. Your continued manipulation destroys any remaining trust

Let me be direct: I gave you multiple opportunities to resolve this fairly. You responded with:

  • Dismissive language ("I have no idea why you assume this is some 'not full, unnormal' key")
  • False equivalence (comparing beta key revocation to retail key revocation)
  • False claims about beta key benefits
  • False claims about system limitations
  • Pretending you don't know which rules apply

Each response contains new lies or manipulations. This is not how honest creators behave. This is damage control from someone who knows they're in the wrong but refuses to admit it.

My position remains unchanged:

Either provide me with a standard retail Steam key, or remove me from the winners list by contacting SteamGifts support.

If you refuse both options, I will report this giveaway to SteamGifts moderation for:

  • Misrepresentation of the item being given away
  • Distributing beta keys without proper disclosure
  • Providing false information to winners

I don't want to escalate this, but your continued dishonesty leaves me no choice. I will not accept a beta key, and I will not be forced into a situation that risks my account standing on this site.

You have 48 hours to either send a retail key or confirm my removal from the winners list. After that, I will file a formal report.

Hello NeoRider.

You had mentioned reporting the issue to us (Steamgifts moderation) but I can't find such ticket at this time to discuss the matter with you. As soon as you see this, could you please open a ticket in the "Other" category to discuss the situation with us in private? Thanks.
