This was a really good one; You had me on a deep dive into an interesting rabbit hole for a few minutes when I noticed the "WAVEFake" at the beginning of the files. :)

While I understand that you used a sort of noise cancellation (or is it phase cancellation, not sure of the exact term), I'd be very curious, if you could explain how you got from the original audio saying the letters to the two resulting files (before inverting one of them).

Hey Domazo - welcome!
It's not a complex thing at all. The cancellation happens because of an inversion of amplitude. So hills become valleys and vice versa.
All I did is:

  • record the background noise (jammer.wav)
  • record the voice
  • mix background noise and voice (broadcast.wav) ('mix' is just addition of waveforms)

All that's left for you to do is to invert the jammer amplitudes and mix them into the broadcast again, effectively subtracting the noise.

All I had to do is make sure that enough of the voice frequencies would remain intact after the subtraction for the letters to remain recognizable.

Good luck!

Hello, we meet again. Took me a while to realise about destructive interference or something.
Thank you for the puzzle.

Inverting the jammer to get the signal was simple enough. Then it took me several minutes to figure out what to do with 10 characters. 🤣

knowing your puzzles, i fully expected you to go one step further and hide the letters written out in a 3d spectrogram, but maybe that would be too big of a leap.
have a great weekend and see you on the next one :D

That's what i thought at first too. Just simple 2D Spectrum though.

Great puzzle. After the specturm and a new search i tried noise reduction using jammer as a noise profile.
On hindsight that was stupid of me, since i already knew how noise cancelling works. 🤦

Fun puzzle. Had to do a lot of quick learning to deal with the files and such tho but couldn't have done it without tips and that ⬆️⬇️ one.
Thx for puzzle!

Really looks like taking it one step further with each new puzzle o.o

Welcome blalilulelo - shame about the region lock, but humble is what humble is - if the puzzle is worth solving, maybe it's its own reward indeed.
Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks for the puzzle :)
The logic behind it was really easy, it was just hard to find a proper tool. Yesterday I got until the same spectogram as the first commenter but then I found a tool to remove the noise, yet it didn't remove it from the letter parts properly so I couldn't understand them. After the audacity answer it was easy to solve.

I liked this one, got it pretty quickly without any hints, just had to look up how to "subtract" one track from another in Audacity (in hindsight I should have known). Thanks :)

Not entering for Biomutant, but it was a fun puzzle! Thanks! :)
I ended up trying both L indicating capital letter, and then U indicating capital letters, but were the L and U supposed to stand for anything specific?

Uppercase
lowercase
At least that worked so I guess that's it.

Oh, wow, that is extremely obvious now that you mention it. Complete brain lapse there (gonna blame it on English not being my native language). :D But at least I made my way here.

I wish things came to me that easily when solving puzzles. Or maybe sleep actually helps my brain.
It does make more "natural" sense to native English speakers, you're right.

But at least I made my way here.

By solving an extra layer of puzzle no less!

Edited: Just realized Tomas had left a clue for it in the thread as well. Man, even his hints are puzzles :D

That was brilliant! I didn't even know Audacity could do that.
Now if only I had background noise recordings of all those nice bootleg concerts to cancel out the noise...
Happy to say I got the U/l thing right away though

Hey Fluffster, glad you liked this little variation. Trying to 'mix' things up a bit.
Yeah - I was a tiny little bit disappointed when some seem to have missed the grouping of 2x5 and understood the letters to be 10 independent items. You knew better ;)

See you next time!

I am always looking for patterns (most of the time way too hard and it leads me astray) so I couldn't ignore the repetition of the U.
Maybe if the url had been different, I would have struggled more.
