i've given animes a fair shot but the only ones I ever really enjoyed were mushishi (a contemplative, classy, and atmospheric series), and neon genesis evangelion. eva was a little bit full of typical pseudo-philosophical shallow nonsense that for some reason almost every anime has a bit of, but it was otherwise enjoyable. very dramatic, and the ending was perfect, though a lot of fans couldn't handle it. golden boy was another one, because it's bloody hilarious. watch it with english dub, as it's just not funny in its native language! it's adult humour so make sure you're not 12.
