What can I even write about Day of the Tentacle that would do it justice?
It's just about the best point-and-click adventure game ever.
Comedy, music, artwork, writing, style, puzzles, cleverness, sound effects, animation, education...?, and tentacles. It's got it all.
And if you get the "full talkie" version, it's got great voice acting too!

I can't remember if the voiced version was on the six(?) floppy disk version I originally pirated played, that came from a friend at school, but I definitely have clear memories of Bernard, Laverne, Hoagie, Dr. Fred, and Green and Purple Tentacle all speaking, so I know I played that version at some point in my youth. I still haven't finished Maniac Mansion though, in spite of the at-the-time mind-blowing realization that the entire Maniac Mansion game is included inside Day of the Tentacle (it's also still in the Remastered version).

But this game... it's... classic. I believe that Day of the Tentacle is the game that cemented this genre of gaming as my all-time favorite. To the winner, whether you've played it before or not, I hope you enjoy it (again?) right through to the ending! :)

This is such a classic.

The original floppy version wasn't voiced. It was later that they came with the voiced cd version; I remember being on holiday in France and seeing it in a shop there.

I did actually finish Maniac Mansion at least once but I remember being stuck a lot; Day of the Tentacle was a bit easier, fortunately. Both great games though.

Maniac Mansion threw me off from the start, with being able to select only a few of a larger number of characters. Not being used to that, it felt like a huge choice and potentially missing out on content. But it's interesting that Ron Gilbert continues to use a similar mechanic even in his newer games (The Cave and, to a lesser extent, Thimbleweed Park).

Have to say, I much prefer Day of the Tentacle's character mechanics. (And from what I've read, Thimbleweed Park works more like DoTT too.) And I think it's easier (not necessarily better) to tell a great story with known fixed characters. Which DoTT definitely does. :) I really need to play it again! :D

Yeah, the multiple character thing was weird at the time but I guess it made sense to make it more replayable in a time where there were much fewer games,

There's so many games I need to (re-)play that I'll need many more lifetimes. lol
