You should be happy, beer is much healthier for you, liquid bread vs liquid sugar that's only good for mixing booze with.

To be fair, you're looking at restaurant prices. The same site also shows that carbonated water is cheaper than soft drinks in America.
It's just exaggerated stereotypes being reported by the media as total truths. As examples, they cherrypick extreme examples and say "Look, in this restaurant you can find this example" when in reality, real prices are shown by local markets like grocery stores and places like that.

No, I was actually looking at a picture in my German 101 book ages ago showing kids wondering why beer is cheaper than water in a supermarket.

Huh, interesting. In all fairness, my source shows an average, so it's very possible that the cheapest beers genuinely are cheaper than water. If that's the case, then sorry. But at least the average is lower, so they have that. :/

You're still overthinking a joke instead of joining it. And trying to fit a picture that was probably old in the 90s already to charts showing prices today.

Pfft, me and getting a joke? Who do you think I am? Some normal person who has gets basic social cues??? I think not, sir! :D

That's what the cheap beer is for, duh. Drink a dozen or couple and all jokes will become instantly funny, especially your own.

Alcohol truly does solve all problems and has no real consequences, huh. Gotta move to Germany :P

It's probably due to the fact that fewer people buy it. Soda is much more marketable than its base components and doesn't cost all that much more to make thanks to the large production runs.
The bean counters figured out the most profitable quantity and price then put that into action.

One word: marketing.
They have different targets. People who buy soda want to buy a lot of it for cheap. People who buy carbonated water are the health conscious folks that can afford to spend $$ on carbonated water. Extra bucks for fancy foreign ones. So they do get charged for it.

Usually the answer is "because it can be". Aka, it's still profitable and probably more profitable at that price.
In other news, I don't think I've ever eaten a burger in my life. Sandwiches, sure. But a fat burger? Never. They really don't looks all that appetizing to me... ^_^'

Anyway, thank you very much! :D

The demand for carbonated water is greater than that of soda pop, so the market is willing to pay more.

It's weird tho. In Germany, we pay 0,19€ (~$0,22) for 1,5l (50,72 oz) of water.
Sodas are way more expensive.

Carbonated water has many uses, as an ingredient or otherwise. As for soda, not so much.

Soda is literally syrup and carbonated water.

Correct. The syrup (which contains many different things, not all of which are compatible with whatever you might want to do with carbonated water) is what limits its functionality.

Thank you for the gift. What I understand by Soda is that its sweet and carbonated. Carbonated Water is water with carbonated air. In my sense, Carbonated Water has a cleaner taste and "healthier" thus is generally more expensive here where I live; Singapore. When bought at the Supermarket, Carbonated Water can cost $2.50 each while a Can of Soda is $0.70+. Funnily, Carbonated Water for me has a cooling effect, especially living in a Tropical Island like mine with humid days/nights, Cheers, Cruse~

People are easily led. Here in Australia, they'll even pay more than $5/L for plastic bottles of uncarbonated water when they can get guaranteed safe water out of a tap for a fraction of a cent per litre. Is the plastic bottle really worth more than 2000 times the value of the water it is containing?
