Description

Kinderkrankenhaus

Head back to Hermannstrasse and catch the S41 clockwise or the S42 counter clockwise. Or transfer from there to the U8 or S46.

One of the absolutely creepiest places I have ever been. Sure it's been abandoned for a long time. Are there people crawling around? Yes. Are they all bums? No. Does the place have alarms to summon the police? Yes. Did hundreds of people die here? Yes, if not thousands. Are their souls still haunting the place? I couldn't tell you, but there was a very strange feeling there.

The Kinderkrankenhaus was a hospital that was established long ago. Read more about it here at AbandonedBerlin.com.

When we arrived there were signs all over the place saying that the buildings had alarms. Did that stop us? A little. We were extremely careful and though we were somewhat curious about what was on the inside, our superstitions got to us. The place radiated creepy. So long as we were within site of the street (albeit behind bushes so we couldn't be seen), we felt pretty safe. But the moment we could no longer see it, the place felt like it was watching us. Now whether that was people inside watching us traipse around their squat, or something else watching us, we had no idea, but it effectively prevented us from exploring too much. We did look in a few places, and wander around the outside grounds, but mostly we stayed the hell out.

Just imagine if those souls were watching us, and not liking us being there. Or imagine if the police came. This wasn't a case of slipping through a broken fence, or just wandering into a place. This required deliberate trespassing. So we were sufficiently subdued about the entire experience. Needless to say we didn't stay for very long. On our way back, clouds suddenly started rolling in that weren't there before, and within 15 mins, it was suddenly a torrential downpour. Water was flowing off awnings and out of drain pipes. We actually stopped at a Currywurst place to get some while we waited it out.

Unlike with most other places I visited, if I went once, it was to explore the area and be prepared to bring others back so they could see it.

I. Never. Went. Back. -shudders-

I visited a lot of abandoned buildings for my work, but this place gives me uncomfortable feeling even by looking at the pictures =o
Might be great as a reference for some horror game =)

I've seen pictures of this place (and many other abandoned places) in a forum about photography a while back.. While they are amazing locations to shoot, they are scary as hell at the same time. I think I even remember watching a show where 2 or 3 people had to do a challenge to stay the night there :S The production team even went as far as adding more terrible things (adding paranormal activity stuff) that freaked the hell out of them..
