Why is it that vampires in stories are incapable of just using a syringe and a glass instead of barbarically nibbling on middle age men's necks? Just be honest, and take make compromise. Hostility can come after they refuse the compromise, if you are attacked then you are in the right to act in self defense. The only time when compromise is not an option is when there is scarce resources, like lets say that there are too many vampires to easily satisfy with donated blood. If vampires spread through bites, then by compromising you can avoid creating scarcity of supply due to the increase in demand. If the vampires are immortal then they can use their immortality to offer services as record keepers, teachers, researchers, or some other job that is based around expertise or gathering and storing knowledge.

I would however suggest not having the vampire in a position of power, or in a position where they can be perceived to have power, to prevent the populous from seeing them as a threat controlling them. Groups like the church may be more difficult to convince, but as long as you go through a third party when negotiating with them it is possible to show the lack of threat you pose so as to direct them to deal with you at a later point. Maybe finding allies in the church who are willing to leave you with a supervisor to watch over your actions and deal with you should you cross a line.

You can also assist them indirectly with understanding vampires more, since know thy enemy is important when conflict takes place. As long as you show that you are not hostile and are not causing harm there should be a possibility of peace. Then again I do know a lot of religious people who refuse to listen to reason and during most historic time periods they were willing to kill people just for the act of being an atheist, including current times where it still happens in certain locations on the globe.
