Description

NO NEED FOR THANKS, BUT IF YOU CAN HELP ME WITH A VERY BASIC MATH PROBLEM IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

Whether you help me or not, I hope you all have a great Christmas

This is a laughably simple math problem I could easily figure out on my own using an online calculator and the process of elimination, but if you can't already tell, I'm mathematically challenged and it is of the UTMOST IMPORTANCE I don't fuck this up. UTMOST. As simple as it may be, I still don't have enough faith in myself so please help me

Materials A, B, C, and D need to be mixed to come to a total of 10 mL
Material A is 1 mL
Material B is 20% of total mL
Material C is 1% of total mL
Material D is rest of total mL
That's it, that's all I need, just the amounts of B, C and D in milliliters

A=1
B=2
C=0.1
D=6.9

Almost got me with the 1% there.

Materials A, B, C, and D need to be mixed to come to a total of 10 mL: A + B + C + D = 10.
Material A is 1 mL: A = 1
Material B is 20% of total mL: 0.2 x 10 = 2
Material C is 1% of total mL 0.01 x 10 = 0.1
Material D is rest of total mL 10 - (1 + 2 + 0.1) = 6.9

Assuming that the volumes of the components add up to the volume of the mixture (with real liquids this is not always the case), B, C, D are as listed in the previous answers, 2, 0.1 and 6.9. respectively. If this is something you are making in RL, however, measuring out A, B and C and adding D until you get 10 mL total may be a better approach than measuring all components separately, assuming D is the solvent component.

The mathematical correct answers were already posted a few times (A=1 mL, B=2 mL, C= 0.1 mL, D=6.9 mL) but those could be quite of from reality. For example if you have pure ethanol and mix it with water say 10 mL+ 10 mL you wouldn't get 20 mL because of something called "volume contraction". The mass stays the same but the volume is less then anticipated.

See https://www.carolina.com/teacher-resources/Interactive/chemistry-lost-volume-demonstration/tr10785.tr for further informations.

So to answer it completly we would need to know what materials you talking of AND if the % are mass percent of volume percent (because as you can see, its not always the same). :)
